Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before my face; and suddenly the Lord whom you seek will come into his temple, even the messenger of the covenant whom you desire.
Behold, he comes, says the Lord Almighty.
§3.2καὶ τίς ὑπομενεῖ ἡμέραν εἰσόδου αὐτοῦ;
But who can endure the day of his coming?
ἤ τίς ὑποστήσεται ἐν τῇ ὀπτασίᾳ αὐτοῦ;
Or who can stand when he appears?
For he enters like a refiner's fire and like the soap of launderers.
He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver and gold, and he will purify the sons of Levi and pour them out like gold and silver; and they shall be to the Lord those who offer sacrifice in righteousness.
Then the sacrifice of Judah and Jerusalem will please the Lord, as in the days of old and as in former years.
And I will draw near to you in judgment, and I will be a swift witness against sorcerers, against adulteresses, against those who swear falsely by my name, against those who keep back the wages of the hired worker, against those who oppress the widow, against those who mistreat orphans, against those who turn aside the justice due to the stranger, and against those who do not fear me, says the Lord Almighty.
For I am the Lord your God, and I do not change.
And you, O sons of Jacob, have not refrained from the unrighteousness of your fathers; you have turned aside from my ordinances and have not kept them.
Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord Almighty.
καὶ εἵπατε Ἐν τίνι ἐπιστρέψωμεν; §3.8μήτι πτερνιεῖ ἄνθρωπος θεόν;
But you say, "In what way shall we return?" Will a man trick God?
Yet you trick me.
And you say, "In what way have we tricked you?" Because the tithes and the firstfruits are with you.
And though you look and look, yet you trick me.
The year has ended, and you have brought all the produce into the storehouses, and there will be the plunder of it in his house.
Test me now in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not open for you the floodgates of heaven and pour out my blessing upon you until there is more than enough.
And I will command for you the consumer, and I will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall your vine in the field fail, says the Lord Almighty.
And all the nations will call you blessed, for you shall be a desirable land, says the Lord Almighty.
§3.13Ἐβαρύνατε ἐπʼ ἐμέ τοὺς λόγους ὑμῶν, λέγει Κύριος, καὶ εἶπατε Ἐν τίνι κατελαλήσαμεν κατὰ σοῦ;
"You have spoken harsh words against me," says the Lord.
§3.14τἴτπατε Μάταιος ὁ δουλεύων θεῷ, καὶ τί πλέον ὅτι ἐφυλάξαμεν τὰ φυλάγματα αὐτοῦ, καὶ διότι ἐπορεύθημεν ἱκέται πρὸ προσώπου Κυρίου τχ Παντοκράτορος;
And you say, "In what way have we spoken against you?" You say, "It is vain to serve God, and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinances and that we walked as suppliants before the face of the Lord Almighty?
And now we call strangers blessed, and all those who do lawless things are built up; they have even resisted God and are saved." These things those who feared the Lord spoke, each to his neighbor; and the Lord paid attention and heard, and he wrote a book of remembrance before him for those who fear the Lord and revere his name.
"And they shall be mine," says the Lord Almighty, "for the day that I make a special possession; and I will choose them as a man chooses his son who serves him.
Then you shall return and see the difference between the righteous and the lawless, and between the one who serves God and the one who does not serve him."
