Do not rejoice, O Israel, nor be glad as the nations; for you have played the harlot away from your God, you have loved gifts upon every threshing floor of wheat.
Threshing floor and winepress did not know them, and the wine deceived them.
They did not dwell in the land of the Lord; Ephraim dwelt in Egypt, and among the Assyrians they shall eat unclean things.
They did not pour out wine to the Lord, nor did they please him; their sacrifices are to them like the bread of mourning, all who eat them shall be defiled; for their bread is for their own souls, it shall not enter into the house of the Lord.
§9.5τί ποιήσετε ἐν ἡμέραις πανηγύρεως καὶ ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ἑορτῆς τοῦ κυρίου;
What will you do in the days of assembly, and in the day of the feast of the Lord?
For behold, they go away from the misery of Egypt, and Memphis shall receive them, and Machmas shall bury them; as for their silver, destruction shall inherit it, thorns shall be in their tents.
The days of punishment have come, the days of your recompense have come, and Israel shall be afflicted like the prophet who is out of his mind, the man who is inspired; because of the multitude of your iniquities your madness has multiplied.
The watchman of Ephraim is with God; the prophet is a crooked snare upon all his ways; they have fixed madness in the house of God.
They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of the hill; he will remember their iniquity, he will punish their sins.
I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness, and I saw their fathers as the first-ripe fruit on a fig tree; but they went to Baal-peor, and alienated themselves to shame, and became detestable like the things they loved.
Ephraim has flown away like a bird; their glory has departed from birth, and travail, and conception.
For even if they should bring up their children, they shall be bereaved among men; for indeed woe is to them when my flesh departs from them.
Ephraim, in the manner they presented their children for prey; Ephraim must lead out his children to slaughter.
§9.14δὸς αὐτοῖς, Κύριε· τί δώσεις αὐτοῖς;
Give them, O Lord—what will you give them?
Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.
All their wickedness is in Galgal, for there I hated them because of the wickedness of their practices; I will cast them out of my house, I will no longer love them; all their rulers are disobedient.
Ephraim is sick; his roots are dried up, he shall bear fruit no more; for even if they should give birth, I will slay the beloved offspring of their womb.
My God shall cast them away, because they did not listen to him; and they shall be wanderers among the nations.
