§8.1Εἰς κόλπον αὐτῶν ὡς γῆ, ὡς ἀετὸς ἐπ᾿ οἶκον Κυρίου, ἀνθʼ ὧν παρέβησαν τὴν διαθήκην μου καὶ κατὰ τοῦ νόμου μου.
Into their bosom like earth, like an eagle upon the house of the Lord, because they have transgressed my covenant and acted against my law.
To me they shall cry, "O God, we know you!" Because Israel has turned away from good things, they have pursued an enemy.
§8.4ἑαυτοῖς ἐβασίλευσαν καὶ οὐ δι᾿ ἐμοῦ, ἦρξαν καὶ οὐκ ἐγνώρισάν μοι, τὸ ἀργύριον αὐτῶν καὶ τὸ χρυσίον αὐτῶν ἐποίησαν ἑαυτοῖς εἴδωλα, ὅπως ἐξολοθρευθῶσιν.
They set up kings for themselves, but not by me; they ruled, but they did not make it known to me. Of their silver and gold they made idols for themselves, that they might be destroyed.
§8.5ἀπότριψαι τὸν μόσχον σου, Σαμάρεια·
Reject your calf, O Samaria!
παροξύνθη ὁ θυμός μου ἐπʼ αὐτούς· ἕως τίνος οὐ μὴ δύνωνται καθαρισθῆναι §8.6ἐν τῷ Ἰσραήλ;
My anger is kindled against them; how long will they be unable to be purified, even in Israel?
καὶ αὐτὸ τέκτων ἐποίησεν καὶ οὐ θεός ἐστιν· διότι πλανῶν ἦν ὁ μόσχος σοιυ, Σαμάρεια.
A craftsman made it, and it is not God; for your calf, O Samaria, was a deceiver.
§8.7ὅτι ἀνεμόφθορα ἔσπειραν, καὶ ἡ καταστροφὴ αὐτῶν ἐκδέξεται αὐτά· δράγμα οὐκ ἔχον ἰσχὺν τοῦ ποιῆσαι ἄλευρον· ἐὰν δὲ καὶ ποιήσῃ, ἀλλότριοι καταφάγονται αὐτά.
For they sowed wind-blasted seeds, and their destruction shall receive them; a sheaf having no strength to make flour; and even if it should make it, strangers shall devour it.
§8.8κατεπόθη Ἰσραήλ, νῦν ἐγένετο ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ὡς σκεῦος ἄχρηστον.
Israel is swallowed up; now they have become among the nations like a useless vessel.
§8.9ὅτι αὐτοὶ ἀνέβησαν εἰς Ἀσσυρίους· ἀνέθαλεν καθʼ ἑαυτὸν Ἐφράιμ, δῶρα ἠγάπησαν, §8.10διὸ τοῦτο παραδοθήσονται ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν.
For they went up to the Assyrians; Ephraim sprouted by himself; they loved gifts, therefore they shall be delivered up among the nations.
νῦν εἰσδέξομαι αὐτούς, καὶ κοπάσουσιν μικρὸν τοί χρίειν βασιλέα καὶ ἄρχοντας.
Now I will receive them, and they shall cease for a little while from anointing a king and rulers.
§8.11ὅτι ἐπλήθυνεν Ἐφράιμ θυσιαστήρια, εἰς ἁμαρτίας ἐγένοντο αὐτῷ θυσιαστήρια ἠγαπημένα.
Because Ephraim multiplied altars, his beloved altars became a sin to him.
§8.12καταγράψω αὐτῷ πλῆθος, καὶ τὰ νόμιμά μου εἰς ἀλλότρια ἐλογίσθησαν· θυσιαστήρια τὰ ἠγαπημένα.
I will write down a multitude for him, yet my laws were regarded as strange things; O beloved altars!
§8.13διότι ἐὰν θύσωσιν θυσίαν καὶ φάγωσιν κρέα, Κύριος οὐ προσδέξεται αὐτά· νῦν μνησθήσεται τὰς ἀδικίας αὐτῶν καὶ ἐκδικήσει τὰς ἁμαρτίας αὐτῶν· αὐτοὶ εἰς Αἴγυπτον ἀπέστρεψαν, καὶ ἐν Ἀσσυρίοις ἀκάθαρτα φάγονται.
For if they should offer a sacrifice and eat flesh, the Lord will not accept them; now he will remember their iniquities and punish their sins; they have returned to Egypt, and among the Assyrians they shall eat unclean things.
§8.14καὶ ἐπελάθετο Ἰσραὴλ τοῦ ποιήσαντος αὐτόν, καὶ ᾠκοδόμησαν τεμένη· καὶ Ἰούδας ἐπλήθυνεν πόλεις τετειχισμένας· καὶ ἐξαποστελῶ πῦρ εἰς τὰς πόλεις αὐτοῦ, καὶ καταφάγεται τὰ θεμέλια αὐτῶν.
And Israel forgot his Maker and built temples, and Judah multiplied walled cities; but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour their foundations.
