Israel is a vine with goodly branches, her fruit is abundant; according to the multitude of her fruits he multiplied altars, according to the good things of his land he built pillars.
They divided their hearts, now they shall be destroyed; he himself § shall demolish their altars, and their pillars shall be brought to misery.
§10.3διότι νῦν ἐροῦσιν Οὐκ ἔστιν βασιλεὺς ἡμῖν, ὅτι οὐκ ἐφοβήθημεν τὸν κύριον. ὁ δὲ βασιλεὺς τί ποιήσει ἡμῖν, §10.4λαλῶν ῥήματα προφάσεις ψευδεῖς;
For now they shall say, "We have no king, because we did not fear the Lord; and what shall the king do for us?" speaking words of false pretenses?
He will make a covenant, and judgment shall spring up like wild grass upon the dry land of a field.
For the calf of the house of On the inhabitants of Samaria shall fear; because his people mourned over him, and as they provoked him, they shall rejoice over his glory, because it has departed from him.
And they bound him and carried him into Assyria, as a present to King Iareim; Ephraim shall receive a gift, and Israel shall be ashamed of his counsel.
Samaria has cast off her king like a twig upon the face of the water.
And the altars of On, the sins of Israel, shall be taken away; thorns and thistles shall come up upon their altars, and they shall say to the mountains, "Cover us," and to the hills, "Fall upon us." From the days of the hills Israel has sinned, there they stood; shall not war against the children of iniquity overtake them on the hill?
to chastise them; and nations shall be gathered against them when they are chastised for their two iniquities.
Ephraim is a heifer taught to love strife, but I will come upon the fairest part of her neck; I will mount Ephraim, I will pass over Judah in silence, Jacob shall strengthen himself.
Sow for yourselves for righteousness, reap for the fruit of life, light for yourselves the light of knowledge; seek the Lord until the fruits of righteousness come to us.
§10.13ἵυα τί παρεσιωπήσατε ἀσέβειαν, καὶ τὰς ἀδικίας αὐτῆς ἐτρυγήσατε, ἐφάγετε καρπὸν ψευδῆ;
Why have you passed over ungodliness in silence, and reaped her iniquities, and eaten false fruit?
Because you trusted in your sins, in the multitude of your power.
And destruction shall rise up among your people, and all your fortified places shall pass away; as Prince Salaman from the house of Ieroboam, in the days of war they dashed the mother to the ground upon her children.
So will I do to you, O house of Israel, because of the presence of the injustice of your wicked deeds.
