§6.1καὶ ἐπαύσατο κλαίουσα.
And she stopped weeping.
§6.2Οἱ δὲ πορευόμενοι τὴν ὁδὸν ἦλθον ἑσπέρας ἐπὶ τὸν Τίγριν ποταμόν, καὶ ηὐλίζοντο ἐκεῖ
And as they went on their journey, they came in the evening to the Tigris river, and they lodged there.
§6.3τὸ δὲ παιδάριον κατέβη περικλύσασθαι, καὶ ἀνεπήδησεν ἰχθὺς ἀπὸ τοῦ ποταμοῦ καὶ ἐβουλήθη καταπεῖν τὸ παιδάριον.
And the young man went down to wash himself, and a fish leaped up from the river and would have swallowed the young man.
§6.4ὁ δὲ ἄγγελος εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἐπιλαβοῦ τοῦ ἰχθύος· καὶ ἐκράτησεν τὸν ἰχθὺν τὸ παιδάριον, καὶ ἀνέβαλεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν.
But the angel said to him, "Take hold of the fish." And the young man caught the fish and cast it upon the land.
§6.5καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ ἄγγελος Ἀνάτεμε τὸν ἰχθύν, καὶ λαβὼν τὴν καρδίαν καὶ τὸ ἧπαρ καὶ τὴν χολὴν θὲς ἀσφαλῶς. §6.6καὶ ἐποίησεν τὸ παιδάριον ὡς εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ ἄγγελος, τὸν δὲ ἰχθὺν ὀπτήσαντες ἔφαγον·
And the angel said to him, "Cut the fish open, and take the heart and the liver and the gall, and put them up safely." So the young man did as the angel commanded him; and they roasted the fish and ate it.
καὶ ὥδευον ἀμφότεροι ἕως ἤγγισαν ἐν Ἐκβατάνοις.
And they both journeyed on until they drew near to Ecbatana.
§6.7καὶ εἶπεν τὸ παιδάριον τῷ ἀγγέλῳ Ἀζαρία ἀδελφέ, τί ἐστιν τὸ ἧπαρ καὶ ἡ καρδία καὶ ἡ χολὴ τοῦ ἰχθύος; §6.8καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἡ καρδία καὶ τὸ ἧπαρ, ἐάν τινα ὀχλῇ δαιμόνιον ἢ πνεῦμα πονηρόν· ταῦτα δὲ καπνίσαι ἐνώπιον ἀνθρώπου ἢ γυναικός, καὶ οὐ μηκέτι ὀχληθῇ.
And the young man said to the angel, "Brother Azarias, of what use is the liver and the heart and the gall of the fish?" And he said to him, "As for the heart and the liver, if a demon or an evil spirit troubles anyone, we must make a smoke of these before the man or the woman, and the person shall be troubled no more.
§6.9ἡ δὲ χολὴ ἐνχρῖσαι ἄνθρωπον ὃς ἔχει λευκώματα ἐν τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς, καὶ ἰαθήσεται. §6.10Ὡς δὲ προσήγγισαν τῇ Ῥάγῃ, §6.11εἶπεν ὁ ἄγγελος τῷ παιδαρίῳ Ἀδελφέ, σήμερον αὐλισθησόμεθα παρὰ Ῥαγουηλῷ· καὶ αὐτὸς συγγενής σού ἐστιν, καὶ ἔστιν αὐτῷ θυγάτηρ ὀνόματι Σάρρα.
And as for the gall, it is to anoint a man who has white spots in his eyes, and he shall be healed." And when they approached Rages, the angel said to the young man, "Brother, today we shall lodge with Raguel, who is your relative; and he has an only daughter, named Sarah.
§6.12λαλήσω περὶ αὐτῆς τοῦ δοθῆναί σοι αὐτὴν εἰς γυναῖκα, ὅτι σοὶ ἐπιβάλλει ἡ κληρονομία αὐτῆς, καὶ σὺ μόνος εἶ ἐκ τοῦ γένους αὐτῆς· καὶ τὸ κοράσιον καλὸν καὶ φρόνιμόν ἐστιν.
I will speak for her, that she may be given to you for a wife; for the inheritance of her belongs to you, and you only are of her kindred; and the girl is fair and wise.
§6.13καὶ νῦν ἄκουσόν μου καὶ λαλήσω τῷ πατρὶ αὐτῆς, καὶ ὅταν ὑποστρέψαμεν ἐκ Ῥάγων, ποιήσωμεν τὸν γάμον.
Now therefore hear me, and I will speak to her father; and when we return from Rages, we will celebrate the marriage.
διότι ἐπίσταμαι Ῥαγουὴλ ὅτι οὐ μὴ δῷ αὐτὴν. ἀνδρὶ ἑτέρῳ κατὰ τὸν νόμον Μωυσῆ, ἢ ὀφειλέσει θάνατον, ὅτι τὴν κληρονομίαν σοὶ καθήκει λαβεῖν ἢ πάντα ἄνθρωπον. §6.14τότε εἶπεν τὸ παιδάριον τῷ ἀγγέλῳ Ἀζαρία ἀδελφέ, ἀκήκοα ἐγὼ τὸ κοράσιον δεδόσθαι ἑπτὰ ἀνδράσιν, καὶ πάντας ἐν τῷ νυμφῶνι ἀπολωλότας.
For I know that Raguel cannot marry her to another man according to the law of Moses, or else he would be liable to death, because the right of inheritance belongs to you rather than to any other man." Then the young man said to the angel, "Brother Azarias, I have heard that the girl has been given to seven men, and that they all perished in the bridal chamber.
§6.15καὶ νῦν ἐγὼ μόνος εἰμὶ τῷ πατρί, καὶ φοβοῦμαι μὴ εἰσελθὼν ἀποθάνω καθὼς καὶ οἱ πρότεροι, ὅτι δαιμόνιον φιλεῖ αὐτὴν ὃ οὐκ ἀδικεῖ οὐδένα πλὴν τῶν προσαγόντων αὐτῇ.
And now I am the only son of my father, and I am afraid lest, if I go in, I should die as those before me did; for a demon loves her, which hurts no one except those who come near to her.
καὶ νῦν ἐγὼ φοβοῦμαι μὴ ἀποθάνω, καὶ κατάξω τὴν ζωὴν τοῦ πατρός μου καὶ τῆς μητρός μου μετʼ ὀδύνης ἐπʼ ἐμοὶ εἰς τὸν τάφον αὐτῶν· καὶ υἱὸς ἕτερος οὐχ ὑπάρχει αὐτοῖς ὃς θάψει αὐτούς. §6.16εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ ἄγγελος Οὐ μέμνησαι τῶν λόγων ὧν ἐνετείλατό σοι ὁ πατήρ σου ὑπέρ τοῦ λαβεῖν σε γυναῖκα ἐκ τοῦ γένους σου;
And now I fear lest I should die, and bring my father's and my mother's life to their grave with sorrow because of me; and they have no other son to bury them." But the angel said to him, "Do you not remember the words which your father commanded you, that you should take a wife of your own kindred?
καὶ νῦν ἄκουσόν μου, ἀδελφέ, | διότι σοὶ ἔσται εἰς γυναῖκα, καὶ τοῦ δαιμονίου μηδένα λόγον ἔχε, ὅτι τὴν νύκτα ταύτην δοθήσεταί σοι αὕτη εἰς γυναῖκα.
Now therefore hear me, brother; for she shall be your wife, and make no account of the demon; for this night she shall be given to you for a wife.
§6.17καὶ ἐὰν εἰσέλθῃς εἰς τὸν νυμφῶνα, λήμψῃ τέφραν θυμιαμάτων καὶ ἐπιθήσεις ἀπὸ τῆς καρδίας καὶ τοῦ ἥπατος τοῦ ἰχθύος· καὶ καπνίσεις, §6.18καὶ ὀσφρανθήσεται τὸ δαιμόνιον καὶ φεύξεται, καὶ οὐκ ἐπανελεύσεται τὸν αἰῶνα τοῦ αἰῶνος.
And when you enter into the bridal chamber, you shall take the ashes of incense, and shall lay upon them some of the heart and liver of the fish, and shall make a smoke with it; and the demon shall smell it, and flee, and shall never return.
ὅταν δὲ προσπορεύῃ αὐτῇ, ἐγέρθητε ἀμφότεροι καὶ βοήσατε πρὸς τὸν ἐλεήμονα θεόν, καὶ σώσει ὑμᾶς καὶ ἐλεήσει.
And when you come near to her, rise up both of you, and cry to God who is merciful, and He will save you and have mercy on you.
μὴ φοβοῦ, ὅτι σοὶ αὕτη ἡτοιμασμένη ἦν ἀπὸ τοῦ αἰῶνος, καὶ σὺ αὐτὴν σώσεις, καὶ πορεύσεται μετὰ σοῦ, καὶ ὑπολαμβάνω ὅτι σοὶ ἔσται ἐξ αὐτῆς παιδία.
Fear not, for she was prepared for you from everlasting; and you shall save her, and she shall go with you.
καὶ ὡς ἤκουσεν Τωβίας ταῦτα, ἐφίλησεν αὐτήν, καὶ ἡ ψυχὴ αὐτοῦ ἐκολλήθη αὐτῇ σφόδρα.
And I suppose that you shall have children by her." Now when Tobias heard these things, he loved her, and his soul was deeply knit to her.
