Tobias answered and said to him, "Father, I will do all that you have commanded me." "But how shall I be able to receive the money, seeing I do not know him?" Then he gave him the receipt, and said to him, "Seek for yourself a man who will go with you, and I will give him wages as long as I live; and go and receive the money." And he went to seek a man, and found Raphael, who was an angel, and he did not know it.
And he said to him, "Can I go with you to Rages of Media, and are you acquainted with those places?" And the angel said to him, "I will go with you, and I know the way well, and I have lodged with our brother Gabael." And Tobias said to him, "Wait for me, and I will tell my father." And he said to him, "Go, and do not delay." And he went in and said to his father, "Behold, I have found one who will go with me." And he said, "Call him to me, so that I may learn of what tribe he is, and whether he is a trustworthy man to go with you." So he called him, and he came in, and they greeted one another.
§5.11καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τωβείτ Ἀδελφέ, ἐκ ποίας φυλῆς καὶ ἐκ ποίας πατρίδος σὺ εἶ;
And Tobit said to him, "Brother, of what tribe and of what family are you?
Show me." And he said to him, "Do you seek a tribe and a family, or a hired man to go with your son?" And Tobit said to him, "I wish, brother, to know your family and your name." And he said, "I am Azarias, the son of the great Ananias, of your kindred." And Tobit said to him, "Welcome in safety, brother!
And do not be angry with me because I sought to know your tribe and your family.
For you happen to be my brother, of an honorable and good lineage.
For I knew Ananias and Jathan, the sons of the great Semeas, when we went together to Jerusalem to worship, offering the firstborn and the tithes of the fruits, and they did not go astray in the error of our brothers.
§5.15ἀλλ᾿ εἰπόν μοι τίνα σοι ἔσομαι μισθὸν διδόναι; δραχμὴν τῆς ἡμέρας καὶ τὰ δέοντά σοι ὡς καὶ τῷ υἱῷ μου;
You are of a good root, brother." "But tell me, what wages shall I give you?
A drachma a day, and your provisions, just as for my own son?" "And I will add something to your wages, if you return in safety." So they agreed.
And he said to Tobias, "Prepare yourself for the journey, and may you have a good journey!" And his son prepared the things for the journey.
And his father said to him, "Go with the man; and God who dwells in heaven will prosper your journey, and may His angel go with you." So they both went forth to depart, and the young man's dog went with them.
§5.18Ἔκλαυσεν δὲ Ἄννα ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ, καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς Γωβείτ Τί ἐξαπέστειλας τὸ παιδίον ἡμῶν;
But Anna his mother wept, and said to Tobit, "Why have you sent our child away?
Is he not the staff of our hands, in his going in and out before us?" "Let not money be added to money, but let it be as refuse in comparison with our child." "For as the Lord has given us to live, this is sufficient for us." And Tobit said to her, "Do not worry, sister; he will return in safety, and your eyes shall see him." "For a good angel will go with him, and his journey will prosper, and he will return in safety."
