[ULPIANUS libro primo de censibus. ] §50.15.1.prSciendum est esse quasdam colonias iuris Italici, ut est in Syria Phoenice splendidissima Tyriorum colonia, unde mihi origo est, nobilis regionibus, serie saeculorum antiquissima, armipotens, foederis quod cum Romanis percussit tenacissima: huic enim diuus Seuerus et imperator noster ob egregiam in rem publicam imperiumque Romanum insignem fidem ius Italicum dedit:
[ULPIAN, in the first book on Censuses.] It should be known that there are certain colonies with Italian right, such as the most splendid colony of the Tyrians in Syria Phoenice, from where I have my origin, famous in its regions, most ancient in the succession of ages, powerful in arms, and most tenacious of the treaty which it struck with the Romans; for to this colony the deified Severus and our Emperor, on account of its extraordinary and remarkable loyalty to the state and the Roman Empire, granted the Italian right.
§50.15.1.1Sed et Berytensis colonia in eadem prouincia Augusti beneficiis gratiosa et (ut diuus Hadrianus in quadam oratione ait) Augustana colonia, quae ius Italicum habet.
Moreover, the colony of Berytus in the same province, favored by the benefits of Augustus, and (as the deified Hadrian says in a certain speech) the Augustan colony, also has the Italian right.
§50.15.1.2Est et Heliupolitana, quae a diuo Seuero per belli ciuilis occasionem Italicae coloniae rem publicam accepit.
There is also that of Heliopolis, which from the deified Severus, on the occasion of the civil war, received the constitution of an Italian colony.
§50.15.1.3Est et Laodicena colonia in Syria Coele, cui diuus Seuerus ius Italicum ob belli ciuilis merita concessit.
There is also the colony of Laodicea in Coele Syria, to which the deified Severus, on account of its services in the civil war, granted the Italian right.
Ptolemaeensium enim colonia, quae inter Phoenicen et Palaestinam sita est, nihil praeter nomen coloniae habet.
For the colony of the Ptolemaeans, which is situated between Phoenice and Palestine, has nothing except the name of a colony.
§50.15.1.4Sed et Emisenae ciuitati Phoenices imperator noster ius coloniae dedit iurisque Italici eam fecit.

§50.15.1.9Zarmizegetusa quoque eiusdem iuris est: item Napocensis colonia et Apulensis et Patauissensium uicus, qui a diuo Seuero ius coloniae impetrauit.
Zarmizegetusa also is of the same right; likewise the colony of Napoca, that of Apulum, and the village of the Patauissenses, which obtained the right of a colony from the deified Severus.
§50.15.1.10Est et in Bithynia Apamena et in Ponto Sinopensis.
There is also in Bithynia that of Apamea, and in Pontus that of Sinope.
