Ἀκρώμιον ἀποσπασθὲν, τὸ μὲν εἶδος φαίνεται, οἷόνπερ ὤμου ἐκπεσόντος, στερίσκεται δ᾿ οὐδενὸς, ἐς δὲ τὸ αὐτὸ οὐ καθίσταται.
When the acromion is separated, the appearance is indeed similar to that of a dislocated shoulder, but there is no loss of function, and it does not return to its original state.
Σχῆμα τὸ αὐτὸ, ᾧ καὶ ἐκπεσόντι, ἐν ἐπιδέσει καὶ ἀνάληψει· ἐπιδέσιος καὶ ὡς νόμος.
The position in bandaging and suspension is the same as that for a dislocated shoulder; the bandaging is also according to the rule.

Ἀγκῶνος ἄρθρον παραλλάξαν μὲν ἢ πρὸς πλευρὴν, ἢ ἔξω, μένοντος τοῦ ὀξέος τοῦ ἐν τῷ κοίλῳ τοῦ βραχίονος, ἐς ἰθὺ κατατείνοντα, τὰ ἐξέχοντα ἀνωθέειν ὀπίσω καὶ ἐς τὸ πλάγιον.
When the elbow joint is displaced either towards the ribs or outwards, while the sharp point remains in the cavity of the humerus, one must extend the arm in a straight line and push the protruding parts backwards and to the side.

Τὰ δὲ τελέως ἐκβάντα ἢ ἔνθα ἢ ἔνθα· κατάτασις μὲν, ἐν ᾗ ὁ βραχίων ἐπιδεῖται· οὕτω γὰρ τὸ καμπύλον τοῦ ἀγκῶνος οὐ κωλύσει.
But for those dislocated completely either this way or that way: extension must be made in the position in which the upper arm is bound; for thus the bend of the elbow will not hinder.
Ἐκπίπτει δὲ μάλιστα ἐς τὸ πρὸς πλευρία μέρος.
It dislocates most towards the side of the ribs.
Τὰς δὲ κατορθώσιας, ἀπάγοντα ὅτι πλεῖστον, ὡς μὴ ψαύσῃ τῆς κορώνης ἡ κεφαλὴ, μετέωρον δὲ περιάγειν καὶ περικάμψαι, καὶ μὴ ἐς ἰθὺ βιάζεσθαι, ἅμα δὲ ὠθέειν τἀναντία ἐφ᾿ ἑκάτερα, καὶ παρωθέειν ἐς χώρην.
As for the rectifications, drawing it as far away as possible so that the head does not touch the coronoid process, one must swing it around and bend it while keeping it raised, and not force it in a straight line; and at the same time, push in opposite directions on both sides, and thrust it into its place.
Συνωφελοίη δ᾿ ἂν καὶ ἐπίστρεψις ἀγκῶνος ἐν τούτοισιν, ἐν τῷ μὲν ἐς τὸ ὕπτιον, ἐν τῷ δὲ ἐς τὸ πρηνές·
A rotation of the elbow would also be helpful in these cases, in one case to supination, and in another to pronation.
ἐμβολὴ δέ· σχήματος μὲν, ὀλίγον ἀνωτέρω ἄκρην χεῖρα ἀγκῶνος ἔχειν, βραχίονα δὲ κατὰ τὰς πλευράς·
The position for reduction: to keep the hand slightly higher than the elbow, and the upper arm close to the ribs.
οὕτω δὲ καὶ ἀνάληψις, καὶ εὔφορον, καὶ φύσις, καὶ χρῆσις ἐν τῷ κοινῷ, ἢν ἄρα μὴ κακῶς πωρωθῇ· πωροῦται δὲ ταχέως.
In this position also is the suspension, which is comfortable, natural, and useful for common activities, unless indeed it becomes badly ankylosed; and it becomes ankylosed quickly.
Ἴησις, ὀθονίοισι κατὰ τὸν νόμον τὸν ἀρθριτικὸν, καὶ τὸ ὀξὺ προσεπιδεῖν.
The treatment is with bandages according to the rule for joints, and to bandage the sharp point in addition.

Παλιγκοτώτατον δὲ ἀγκὼν πυρετοῖσι, ὀδύνῃ ἀσώδει, ἀκρατοχόλῳ, ἀγκῶνος δὲ μάλιστα ὀπίσω διὰ τὸ ναρκῶδες, δεύτερον τὸ ἔμπροσθεν.
The elbow is most troublesome with regard to fevers, nauseating pain, and pure bilious vomiting, and especially the posterior dislocation of the elbow because of the numbness it causes, and secondarily the anterior dislocation.
Ἴησις ἡ αὐτή.
The treatment is the same.
ἐμβολαὶ δὲ τοῦ μὲν ὀπίσω, ἐκτείνοντα κατατεῖναι·
The reductions: for the posterior one, to make extension while extending the arm.
σημεῖον δὲ, οὐ γὰρ δύνανται ἐκτείνειν·
The sign is that they cannot extend it.
τοῦ δὲ ἔμπροσθεν, οὐ δύνανται ξυγκάμπτειν. Τούτῳ δὲ ἐνθέντα τι σκληρὸν συνειλεγμένον, περὶ τοῦτο ξυγκάμψαι ἐξ ἐκτάσιος ἐξαίφνης.
For the anterior one, they cannot bend it; and for this, having placed some hard, rolled-up object, suddenly bend it over this from a state of extension.

Διαστάσιος δὲ ὀστέων σημεῖον, κατὰ τὴν φλέβα τὴν κατὰ τὸν βραχίονα σχιζομένην διαψαύοντι.
The sign of the separation of the bones is found by feeling along the vein that divides at the upper arm.

Ταῦτα δὲ ταχέως διαπωροῦται.
These parts quickly become calloused.
Ἐκ γενεῆς δὲ, βραχύτερα τὰ κάτω ὀστέα τοῦ σίνεος, πλεῖστον τὰ ἐγγύτατα πήχεος, δεύτερον χειρὸς, τρίτον δακτύλων.
In those from birth, the bones below the injury are shorter, most of all those nearest of the forearm, secondarily those of the hand, and thirdly those of the fingers.
Βραχίων δὲ καὶ ὦμος ἐγκρατέστερα διὰ τὴν τροφήν.
But the upper arm and the shoulder are stronger because of nourishment.
Ἡ δ᾿ ἑτέρη χεὶρ διὰ τὰ ἔργα πλείω ἔτι ἐγκρατεστέρη.
The other hand is still stronger because of its greater work.
Μινύθησις δὲ σαρκῶν, εἰ μὲν ἔξω ἐξέπεσεν, εἴσω, εἰ δὲ μὴ, ἐς τοὐναντίον ᾗ ἐξέπεσεν.
Wasting of the flesh occurs on the inside if the dislocation was outwards; otherwise, on the side opposite to where it dislocated.

Ἀγκὼν δὲ ἢν μὲν ἔξω ἢ ἔσω ἐκβῇ, κατάτασις μὲν ἐν σχήματι ἐγγωνίῳ, κοινῷ τῷ πήχει πρὸς βραχίονα· τὴν γὰρ μασχάλην ἀναλαβὼν ταινίῃ ἀνακρεμάσαι, ἀγκῶνι δὲ ἄκρῳ ὑποθείς τι παρὰ τὸ ἄρθρον βάρος ἐκκρεμάσαι, ἢ χερσὶ καταναγκάσαι.
If the elbow is dislocated outwards or inwards, extension is made in a right-angled position, which is common, of the forearm to the upper arm; for, having supported the armpit, one should suspend it with a band, and having placed something under the tip of the elbow near the joint, hang a weight from it, or press it down with the hands.
Ὑπεραιωρηθέντος δὲ τοῦ ἄρθρου, αἱ παραγωγαὶ τοῖσι θέναρσιν, ὡς τὰ ἐν χερσίν.
When the joint is raised above the obstruction, the lateral adjustments are made with the palms of the hands, as in the case of the hands.
Ἐπίδεσις ἐν τούτῳ τῷ σχήματι, καὶ ἀνάληψις, καὶ θέσις.
Bandaging, suspension, and placement are in this position.

Τὰ δ᾿ ὄπισθεν ἐξαίφνης ἐκτείνοντα διορθοῦν τοῖσι θέναρσιν· ἅμα δὲ δεῖ ἐν τῇ διορθώσει, καὶ τοῖσιν ἑτέροισιν.
For posterior dislocations, one must suddenly extend the arm and rectify it with the palms of the hands; and at the same time in this rectification, one must also use the other parts.
Ἢν δὲ πρόσθεν, ἀμφὶ ὀθόνιον ξυνειλεγμένον, εὔογκον, ξυγκάμπτοντα ἅμα δἶορθοῦσθαι.
But if it is anterior, one must bend the arm around a rolled-up bandage of convenient size and at the same time rectify it.

Ἢν δ᾿ ἑτεροκλινὲς ᾖ, ἐν τῇ διορθώσει ἀμφότερα ἅμα χρὴ ποιέειν.
But if it is inclined to one side, one must do both things at once in the rectification.
Τῆς δὲ μελέτης, κοινὸν τὸ σχῆμα καὶ ἡ ἐπίδεσις.
As for the after-treatment, the position and the bandaging are common to all.
Δύναται γὰρ ἐκ τῆς διατάσιος κοινῇ ξυμπίπτειν πάντα.
For all cases can be resolved in common from extension.

Τῶν δὲ ἐμβολέων αἱ μὲν ἐξ ὑπεραιωρήσιος ἐμβαλλονται, αἱ δὲ ἐκ κατατάσιος, αἱ δὲ ἐκ περισφάλσιος· αὗται δὲ ἐκ τῶν ὑπερβολέων τῶν σχημάτων, ἢ τῇ ἢ τῇ, ξὺν τῷ τάχει.
Of the methods of reduction, some are performed by raising the bone over the obstruction, some by extension, and some by rotation; and these latter are performed from extreme positions, either this way or that way, with speed.
