§2929. Τριχώσιος.

Ὑποθεὶς τὸ ῥάμμα τῇ βελόνῃ τῇ τὸ κύαρ ἐχούσῃ, κατὰ τὸ ὀξὺ τῆς ἄνω τάσιος τοῦ βλεφάρου ἐς τὸ κάτω διακεντήσας δίες, καὶ ἄλλο ὑποκάτω τούτου· ἀνατείνας δὲ τὰ ῥάμματα ῥάψον καὶ κατάδει, ἕως ἂν ἀποπέσῃ· κἢν μὲν ἱκανῶς ἔχῃ· εἰ δὲ μὴ, ἢν ἐλλείπῃ, ὀπίσω ποιέειν τὰ αὐτά.
For trichiasis: having threaded the needle which has an eye, having pierced from the sharp edge of the upper tension of the eyelid to the lower, draw the thread through, and another thread below this; and pulling the threads tight, sew and tie them fast, until they fall off; and if it is sufficient, [well and good]; but if not, if it is deficient, do the same things again.
Καὶ τὰς αἱμοῤῥοΐδας τὸν· αὐτὸν τρόπον διώσεις τῇ βελόνῃ, ὡς παχύτατον εἰρίου οἰσυπηροῦ ῥάμμα καὶ ὡς μέγιστον ἀποδήσας, ἀσφαλεστέρη γὰρ γίγνεται ἡ θεραπείη· εἶτα ἀποπιέσας, τῷ σηπτῷ χρέο, καὶ μὴ βρέχε πρὶν ἀποπέσῃ, καὶ αἰεὶ μίην καταλίμπανε, καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἀναλαβὼν ἐλλεβορίσαι.
And in the same way you shall pierce hemorrhoids with the needle, having tied them with as thick and as large a thread of greasy wool as possible, for the treatment becomes safer; then, having squeezed them, use a corrosive agent, and do not wet them before they fall off, and always leave one behind, and after this, having recovered your strength, administer hellebore.
Εἶτα γυμναζέσθω καὶ ἀφιδρούτω· γυμνασίου δὲ τρίψις, πάλη ἀπὸ ὄρθρου· δρόμου δὲ ἀπεχέσθω, καὶ μέθης, καὶ τῶν δριμέων ἔξω ὀριγάνου· ἐμεέτω δὲ δι᾿ ἑπτὰ ἡμερέων ἢ τρὶς ἐν τῷ μηνί· οὕτω γὰρ ἂν ἔχοι ἄριστα τὸ σῶμα· οἶνον δὲ κιῤῥὸν αὐστηρὸν, ὑδαρέα, καὶ ὀλίγον τὸ ποτὸν πινέτω.
Then let him exercise and sweat; and of exercise, let there be friction, and wrestling from early dawn; but let him abstain from running, and from drunkenness, and from sharp foods except oregano; and let him vomit every seven days or three times a month; for in this way his body would be in the best state; and let him drink a dry yellow wine, diluted with water, and let the drink be small in quantity.

Τοῖσι δὲ ἐμπύοισι σκίλλης καταταμὼν κυκλίσκους ἕ ψεε ἐν ὕδατι, καὶ ἀποζέσας εὖ μάλα ἀπόχεον, καὶ ἐπιχέας ἄλλο ἕψεε, ἕως ἂν ἁπτομένῳ δίεφθον καὶ μαλθακὸν φανῇ· εἶτα τρίψας λεῖον, ξύμμισγε κύμινον πεφρυγμένον, καὶ λευκὰ σήσαμα, καὶ ἀμυγδάλας νέας τρίψας ἐν μέλιτι, ἐκλεικτὸν δίδου, καὶ ἐπὶ τούτῳ οἶνον γλυκύν· ῥοφήματα δὲ, μήκωνος τῆς λευκῆς ὑποτρίψας ὁκόσον λεκίσκιον, ὕδατι διεὶς σητανίου πλύματι ἀλεύρου, ἑψήσας, μέλι ἐπιχέας, χλιερὸν ἐπιῤῥοφέων, οὕτω διαγέτω τὴν ἡμέρην· εἶτα ἐς τὰ ἀποβαίνοντα λογιζόμενος τὸ δεῖπνον δίδου.
For patients with empyema: having cut rounds of squill, boil them in water, and having boiled them very thoroughly, pour off the water, and having poured on other water, boil until to the touch it appears thoroughly cooked and soft; then, having ground it smooth, mix roasted cumin, and white sesame, and fresh almonds, and having ground them in honey, give it as an electuary, and after this, sweet wine; and for gruels, having ground about a small bowl's worth of white poppy, dissolving it in water with the washings of fine wheat flour, having boiled it and poured honey over it, let him pass the day sipping it warm; then, taking into account the evacuations, give him dinner.

Δυσεντερίης· κυάμων καθαρῶν τεταρτηόριον, καὶ ἐρυθροδάνου δυοκαίδεκα κάρφεα λεῖα ξυμμίξαντα καὶ ἑψήσαντα, λιπαρὸν διδόναι ἐκλείχειν.
For dysentery: a quarter of a measure of clean beans, and twelve twigs of madder; having mixed them smooth and boiled them, give it as a rich mixture to lick up.

Ὀφθαλμῶν· σποδὸς πεπλυμένη, λιπαρῷ πεφυρημένη, ὡς σταῖς μὴ ὑγρὸν, λεῖον τρίψας, ὀμφακίῳ τῷ τῆς πικρῆς ὄμφακος ἀνυγρήνας, ἐν ἡλίῳ τε ἀναξηρήνας, ὑγραίνειν ὡς ἐνάλειπτον· ὁκόταν δὲ ξηρὸν γένηται, λείῳ τετριμμένῳ ξηρῷ ὑπάλειφε τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς, καὶ παράπασσε τοὺς κανθούς.
For the eyes: washed ash, mixed with fat so that it is not wet like dough, having ground it smooth, and having moistened it with the juice of sour unripe grapes, and having dried it in the sun, moisten it so as to be a salve; and when it becomes dry, with the dry, smoothly ground powder, anoint the eyes underneath, and sprinkle it on the corners of the eyes.

Ὑγρῶν· ἐβένου δραχμὴν μίην, χαλκοῦ κεκαυμένου ἐννέα ὀβολοὺς ἐπ᾿ ἀκόνης τρίβων, κρόκου τριώβολον· ταῦτα τρίψας λεῖα, παράχεε οἴνου γλυκέος κοτύλην ἀττικὴν, κἄπειτα ἐς τὸν ἥλιον θεὶς, κατακαλύψας· ὁκόταν ξυνεψηθῇ, τούτῳ χρέο.
For watery eyes: one drachm of ebony, grinding nine obols of burnt copper on a whetstone, three obols of saffron; having ground these smooth, pour in an Attic cotyle of sweet wine, and then having placed it in the sun and covered it; when it is boiled down together, use this.

Πρὸς τὰς περιωδυνίας· χαλκίτιδος δραχμὴ, σταφυλῆς· ὁκόταν δυσὶν ἡμέρῃσι πεφθῇ, ἐκπιέσας, σμύρναν καὶ κρόκον τρίψας, καὶ ξυμμίξας τὸ γλεῦκος, ἕψησον ἐν τῷ ἡλίῳ, καὶ τούτῳ ὑπάλειφε τοὺς περιωδυνέοντας· ἔστω δὲ ἐν χαλκῷ ἀγγείῳ.
For severe pains: a drachm of chalcitis, and of grapes; when it has been fermented for two days, having squeezed out the juice, having ground myrrh and saffron and mixed them with the must, boil it in the sun, and with this anoint those who suffer from severe pain; let it be in a bronze vessel.

Ὑπὸ ὑστερικῶν πνιγοένων γνῶσις· πιέσαι τοῖσι δακτύλοισι· κἢν αἴσθηται, ταῦτα ὑστερικά ἐστιν· ἢν δὲ μὴ, σπασμώδεα.
Diagnosis of those suffocated by hysterical fits: press with the fingers; and if she has sensation, these are hysterical symptoms; but if not, convulsive.

Τοῖσιν ὑπνωτικοῖσι, μηκώνιον, λεκίσκοιν ἀττικὸν στρογγύλον, πόσις.
For those who need sleep: poppy juice, two round Attic bowls' worth, is the dose.

Λεπίδος μῆλαι τρεῖς τῷ πλάτει, καὶ ἀλήτου σητανίου κόλλης· ταῦτα λεῖα τρίψας, κατάποτα ξυστρέψας, δίδου· κάτω ὕδωρ καθαίρει.
Three spatula-loads of copper scale in width, and gluten of fine wheat flour; having ground these smooth, and rolled them into pills, give them; it purges water downward.

Κοιλίην ἐκκοπροῖ· ἐς ἰσχάδας ὀποῦ τοῦ τιθυμάλλου ἀπόσταζε ἑπτάκις ἐς ἑκάστην, εἶτα ἐς καινὸν ἄγγος συνθεὶς ταμιεύεσθαι· δίδου πρὸ τῶν σιτίων.
It clears the bowels of feces: drip the juice of spurge onto dried figs seven times onto each, then putting them together in a new vessel, store them; give them before meals.

Καὶ τὸ μηκώνιον τρίβων, ὕδωρ ἐπιχέων, καὶ διηθέων, ἄλευρον φυρῶν, ἰτρίον ὀπτῶν, μέλι ἑφθὸν παραχέων, τοῖσιν ἑδρικοῖσιν ὑδερικοῖσί τε τρώγειν δίδου, καὶ ἐπιπίνειν οἶνον γλυκὺν, ὑδαρέα, ἢ μελίκρητον ὑδαρὲς, τὸ ἀπὸ τῶν κοπρίων· ἢ μηκώνιον ξυλλέγων ταμιεύου, καὶ θεράπευε.
And grinding the poppy juice, pouring on water, and straining it, mixing with flour, baking a cake, and pouring in boiled honey, give it to eat to those with rectal diseases and to those with dropsy, and let them drink sweet wine, diluted, or diluted hydromel, after evacuations; or collecting poppy juice, store it, and treat.
