When these things had been accomplished, all those throughout Triphylia, having become terrified, began to deliberate concerning themselves and their own countries.
§4.79.2ὁ δὲ Φιλλίδας ἐκλιπὼν τὰς Τυπανέας, προσδιαρπάσας τινὰς τῶν οἰκιῶν, ἀπεχώρησεν εἰς τὸ Λέπρεον·
Meanwhile, Philidas, having abandoned Typaneae and having plundered some of the houses in addition, retreated to Lepreum.
§4.79.3ταῦτα γὰρ ἐπίχειρα τότε τοῖς Αἰτωλῶν ἐγίνετο συμμάχοις, τὸ μὴ μόνον ἐν τοῖς ἀναγκαιοτάτοις καιροῖς ἐγκαταλείπεσθαι προφανῶς, ἀλλὰ καὶ διαρπαγέντας ἢ προδοθέντας τούτοις περιπίπτειν ὑπὸ τῶν συμμάχων, ἃ τοῖς κρατηθεῖσιν ὑπὸ τῶν πολεμίων ὀφείλεται πάσχειν.
For such rewards then accrued to the allies of the Aetolians: not only to be openly abandoned in times of greatest need, but also, after being plundered or betrayed, to suffer at the hands of their allies those things which are due to be suffered by those conquered by enemies.
§4.79.4οἱ δὲ Τυπανεᾶται παρέδοσαν τῷ Φιλίππῳ τὴν πόλιν. τούτοις δὲ τὸ παραπλήσιον ἐποίησαν οἱ τὴν Ὕπαναν κατοικοῦντες.
Therefore, the Typaneans surrendered their city to Philip; and those inhabiting Hypana did likewise.
§4.79.5ἅμα δὲ τούτοις Φιαλεῖς, ἀκούοντες τὰ περὶ τὴν Τριφυλίαν καὶ δυσαρεστούμενοι τῇ τῶν Αἰτωλῶν συμμαχίᾳ, κατέλαβον μετὰ τῶν ὅπλων τὸν περὶ τὸ πολεμάρχιον τόπον.
At the same time as these, the Phigaleans, hearing the news about Triphylia and being displeased with the alliance of the Aetolians, occupied the space around the polemarch’s office under arms.
§4.79.6οἱ δὲ τῶν Αἰτωλῶν πειραταί, διατρίβοντες ἐν ταύτῃ τῇ πόλει διὰ τὰς ἐκ τῆς Μεσσηνίας ὠφελείας, τὸ μὲν πρῶτον οἷοί τʼ ἦσαν ἐγχειρεῖν καὶ κατατολμᾶν τῶν Φιαλέων,
Now the Aetolian pirates, who were staying in this city on account of the booty from Messenia, were at first disposed to attack and make a bold stand against the Phigaleans.
§4.79.7ὁρῶντες δὲ τοὺς πολίτας ὁμοθυμαδὸν ἁθροιζομένους πρὸς τὴν βοήθειαν, ἀπέστησαν τῆς ἐπιβολῆς, σπεισάμενοι δὲ καὶ λαβόντες τὰς αὑτῶν ἀποσκευὰς ἀπῆλθον ἐκ τῆς πόλεως.
But seeing the citizens gathering with one accord to offer resistance, they desisted from the enterprise, and having made terms and taken their baggage, departed from the city.
§4.79.8οἱ δὲ Φιαλεῖς διαπρεσβευσάμενοι πρὸς τὸν Φίλιππον ἐνεχείρισαν σφᾶς αὐτοὺς καὶ τὴν πόλιν.
Then the Phigaleans, having sent embassies to Philip, surrendered themselves and their city.
