§21.24.1ἐπὶ δὲ τούτοις εἰσήγαγον τοὺς παρʼ Ἀντιόχου πρεσβευτὰς Ἀντίπατρον καὶ Ζεῦξιν.
Following these, they introduced the envoys from Antiochus, Antipater and Zeuxis.
§21.24.2ὧν μετʼ ἀξιώσεως καὶ παρακλήσεως ποιησαμένων τοὺς λόγους, εὐδόκησαν ταῖς γεγενημέναις ὁμολογίαις πρὸς τοὺς περὶ τὸν Σκιπίωνα κατὰ τὴν Ἀσίαν,
When these men made their speeches with dignity and entreaty, the Senate agreed to the treaty which had been concluded in Asia with Scipio and his colleagues.
§21.24.3καὶ μετά τινας ἡμέρας τοῦ δήμου συνεπικυρώσαντος ἔτεμον ὅρκια περὶ τούτων πρὸς τοὺς περὶ τὸν Ἀντίπατρον.
And a few days later, after the people had also ratified it, they struck oaths concerning these matters with Antipater and his colleagues.
§21.24.4μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα καὶ τοὺς ἄλλους εἰσῆγον, ὅσοι παρῆσαν ἀπὸ τῆς Ἀσίας πρεσβεύοντες· ὧν ἐπὶ βραχὺ μὲν διήκουσαν, ἅπασιν δὲ τὴν αὐτὴν ἔδωκαν ἀπόκρισιν.
After this, they also introduced the other envoys who were present from Asia; they listened to them briefly, but gave the same answer to all.
§21.24.5αὕτη δʼ ἦν ὅτι δέκα πρεσβεύοντας ἐξαποστελοῦσι τοὺς ὑπὲρ ἁπάντων τῶν ἀμφισβητουμένων ταῖς πόλεσι διαγνωσομένους.
The answer was that they would send ten commissioners who would decide on all matters in dispute among the cities.
§21.24.6δόντες δὲ ταύτας τὰς ἀποκρίσεις μετὰ ταῦτα κατέστησαν δέκα πρεσβευτάς, οἷς περὶ μὲν τῶν κατὰ μέρος ἔδωκαν τὴν ἐπιτροπήν, §21.24.7περὶ δὲ τῶν ὅλων αὐτοὶ διέλαβον ὅτι δεῖ τῶν ἐπὶ τάδε τοῦ Ταύρου κατοικούντων, ὅσοι μὲν ὑπʼ Ἀντίοχον ἐτάττοντο, τούτους Εὐμένει δοθῆναι πλὴν Λυκίαν καὶ Καρίας τὰ μέχρι τοῦ Μαιάνδρου ποταμοῦ, ταῦτα δὲ Ῥοδίων ὑπάρχειν, §21.24.8τῶν δὲ πόλεων τῶν Ἑλληνίδων ὅσαι μὲν Ἀττάλῳ φόρον ὑπετέλουν, ταύτας τὸν αὐτὸν Εὐμένει τελεῖν, ὅσαι δʼ Ἀντιόχῳ, μόνον ταύταις ἀφεῖσθαι τὸν φόρον.
Having given these answers, they then appointed ten commissioners, to whom they entrusted the management of details, but as to the general settlement, they themselves decided that of those living on this side of Taurus, such as had been subject to Antiochus should be given to Eumenes, except Lycia and the parts of Caria as far as the river Maeander, and that these should belong to the Rhodians; and as for the Greek cities, those which used to pay tribute to Attalus should pay the same to Eumenes, but those which paid to Antiochus should alone have their tribute remitted.
§21.24.9δόντες δὲ τοὺς τύπους τούτους ὑπὲρ τῆς ὅλης διοικήσεως, ἐξέπεμπον τοὺς δέκα πρὸς Γνάιον τὸν ὕπατον εἰς τὴν Ἀσίαν.
Having given these general guidelines for the whole administration, they dispatched the ten commissioners to Gnaeus the consul in Asia.
§21.24.10ἤδη δὲ τούτων διῳκημένων, προσῆλθον αὖθις οἱ Ῥόδιοι πρὸς τὴν σύγκλητον, ἀξιοῦντες περὶ Σόλων τῶν Κιλικίων· διὰ γὰρ τὴν συγγένειαν ἔφασαν καθήκειν αὑτοῖς προνοεῖσθαι τῆς πόλεως ταύτης.
When these matters had already been settled, the Rhodians came again before the Senate to make a request concerning Soli in Cilicia; for they said that, owing to their kinship, it was their duty to look after this city.
§21.24.11εἶναι γὰρ Ἀργείων ἀποίκους Σολεῖς, καθάπερ καὶ Ῥοδίους· ἐξ ὧν ἀδελφικὴν οὖσαν ἀπεδείκνυον τὴν συγγένειαν πρὸς ἀλλήλους.
For they showed that the Solians, like the Rhodians, were colonists from Argos, and from this they demonstrated that their relationship to one another was a brotherly one.
§21.24.12ὧν ἕνεκα δίκαιον ἔφασαν εἶναι τυχεῖν αὐτοὺς τῆς ἐλευθερίας ὑπὸ Ῥωμαίων διὰ τῆς Ῥοδίων χάριτος.
On this account, they said it was just that they should obtain freedom from the Romans through the favor of the Rhodians.
§21.24.13ἡ δὲ σύγκλητος διακούσασα περὶ τούτων εἰσεκαλέσατο τοὺς παρʼ Ἀντιόχου πρεσβευτάς, καὶ τὸ μὲν πρῶτον ἐπέταττε πάσης Κιλικίας ἐκχωρεῖν τὸν Ἀντίοχον· οὐ προσδεχομένων δὲ τῶν περὶ τὸν Ἀντίπατρον διὰ τὸ παρὰ τὰς συνθήκας εἶναι, πάλιν ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν Σόλων ἐποιοῦντο τὸν λόγον.
The Senate, having heard them out on these matters, summoned the envoys of Antiochus, and at first ordered Antiochus to evacuate the whole of Cilicia; but when Antipater and his colleagues did not accept this on the ground that it was contrary to the treaty, they negotiated again concerning Soli itself.
§21.24.14φιλοτίμως δὲ πρὸς τοῦτο διερειδομένων τῶν πρεσβευτῶν, τούτους μὲν ἀπέλυσαν, τοὺς δὲ Ῥοδίους εἰσκαλεσάμενοι διεσάφουν τὰ συναντώμενα παρὰ τῶν περὶ τὸν Ἀντίπατρον καὶ προσεπέλεγον ὅτι πᾶν ὑπομενοῦσιν, εἰ πάντως τοῦτο κέκριται Ῥοδίοις.
But when the envoys resisted this obstinately, they dismissed them, and summoning the Rhodians, they explained the opposition they had met with from Antipater and his colleagues, adding that they would face any consequence if this was absolutely decided upon by the Rhodians.
§21.24.15τῶν δὲ πρεσβευτῶν εὐδοκουμένων τῇ φιλοτιμίᾳ τῆς συγκλήτου καὶ φασκόντων οὐδὲν ἔτι πέρα ζητεῖν, ταῦτα μὲν ἐπὶ τῶν ὑποκειμένων ἔμεινεν.
But when the envoys expressed their appreciation for the Senate's goodwill and said they would ask for nothing further, this matter remained on the terms originally proposed.
§21.24.16ἤδη δὲ πρὸς ἀναζυγὴν τῶν δέκα καὶ τῶν ἄλλων πρεσβευτῶν ὄντων, κατέπλευσαν τῆς Ἰταλίας εἰς Βρεντέσιον οἵ τε περὶ τὸν Σκιπίωνα καὶ Λεύκιον οἱ τῇ ναυμαχίᾳ νικήσαντες τὸν Ἀντίοχον·
When the ten commissioners and the other envoys were already about to depart, Scipio and his colleagues, and Lucius, who had defeated Antiochus in the sea fight, sailed into Brentesion in Italy.
§21.24.17οἳ καὶ μετά τινας ἡμέρας εἰσελθόντες εἰς τὴν Ῥώμην ἦγον θριάμβους.
And a few days later, entering Rome, they celebrated their triumphs.
