§2.1Ἐπὶ τῆς φυλακῆς μου στήσομαι καὶ ἐπιβήσομαι ἐπὶ πέτραν, καὶ ἀποσκοπεύσω τοῦ ἰδεῖν τί λαλήσει ἐν ἐμοί, καὶ τί ἀποκριθῶ ἐπὶ τὸν ἔλεγχόν μου.
I will stand upon my watch, and go up upon the rock, and will watch to see what he will speak in me, and what I shall answer to my reproof.
§2.2καὶ ἀπεκρίθη πρὸς μέ Κύριος καὶ εἶπεν Γράψον ὅρασιν καὶ σαφῶς εἰς πυξίον, ὅπως διώκῃ ὁ ἀναγινώσκων αὐτά. §2.3διότι ἔτι ὅρασις εἰς καιρόν, καὶ ἀνατελεῖ εἰς πέρας καὶ οὐκ εἰς κενόν· ἐὰν ὑστερήσῃ, ὑπόμεινον αὐτόν, ὅτι ἐρχόμενος ἥξει καὶ οὐ μὴ χρονίσῃ.
And the Lord answered me and said, "Write the vision, and plainly on a tablet, that he who reads it may run." For the vision is yet for a time, and it shall shoot forth to the end, and not in vain; if he tarries, wait for him, for he will surely come, and will not delay.
§2.4ἐὰν ὑποστείληται, οὐκ εὐδοκεῖ ἡ ψυχὴ μου ἐν αὐτῷ· ὁ δὲ δίκαιος ἐκ πίστεως μου ζήσεται.
If he should draw back, my soul has no pleasure in him; but the righteous shall live by my faith.
§2.5δὲ κατοιόμενος καταφρονητής· οὐδέν μὴ περάνῃ· ὃς ἐπλάτυνεν καθὼς ᾅης τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ, καὶ οὗτος ὡς θάνατος οὐκ ἐμπιπλάμενος, καὶ ἐπισυνάξει ἐπʼ αὐτὸν πάντα τὰ ἔθνη, καὶ εἰσδέξεται πρὸς αὐτὸν πάντας τοὺς λαούς.
And the arrogant boaster shall accomplish nothing; he who widened his soul like Hades, and like death is not satisfied, and he will gather to himself all the nations, and receive to himself all the peoples.
§2.6οὐχὶ ταῦτα πάντα παραβολὴν κατʼ αὐτοῦ λήμψονται καὶ πρόβλημα εἰς διήγησιν αὐτοῦ;
Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a riddle for his story?
καὶ ἐροῦσιν Οὐαὶ ὁ πληθύνων ἑαυτῷ τὰ οὐκ ὄντα αὐτοῦ·
And they shall say, 'Woe to him who multiplies to himself things that are not his!
ἕως τίνος;
How long?
καὶ βαρύνων τὸν κλοιὸν αὐτοῦ στιβαρῶς. §2.7ὅτι ἐξαίφνης ἀναστήσονται δάκνοντες αὐτόν, καὶ ἐκνήψουσιν οἱ ἐπίβουλοί σου, καὶ ἔσῃ εἰς διαρπαγὴν αὐτοῖς.
And who loads his yoke heavily.' For suddenly there shall rise up those who bite him, and those who plot against you shall awake, and you shall be a spoil for them.
§2.8διότι ἐσκύλευσας ἔθνη πολλά, σκυλεύσουσιν πάντες οἱ ὑπολελιμμένοι λαοί, δι᾿ αἵματα ἀνθρώπων καὶ ἀσεβείας γῆς καὶ πόλεως καὶ πάντων τῶν κατοικούντων αὐτήν.
Because you have despoiled many nations, all the remaining peoples shall despoil you, because of the blood of men, and the impiety of the land and of the city, and of all who dwell in it.
§2.9Ὢ ὁ πλεονεκτῶν πλεονεξίαν κακὴν τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ, τοῦ τάξαι εἰς ὕψος νοσσιὰν αὐτοῦ, τοῦ ἐκσπασθῆναι ἐκ χειρὸς κακῶν·
Woe to him who covets an evil covetousness for his house, that he may set his nest on high, to be drawn out of the hand of evil!
§2.10ἐβουλεύσω αἰσχύνην τῷ οἴκῳ σου, συνεπέρανας λαοὺς πολλούς, καὶ ἐξήμαρτεν ἡ ψυχή σου· §2.11διότι λίθος ἐκ τοίχου βοήσεται, καὶ κάνθαρος ἐκ ξύλου φθέγξεται αὐτά.
You have devised shame to your house, you have destroyed many peoples, and your soul has sinned; for the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beetle out of the timber shall speak these things.
§2.12Οὐαὶ ὁ οἰκοδομῶν πόλιν ἐν αἵμασιν, καὶ ἑτοιμάζων πόλιν ἐν ἀδικίαις.
Woe to him who builds a city with blood, and prepares a city in iniquity.
§2.13οὐ ταῦτά ἐστιν παρὰ Κυρίου Παντοκράτορος;
Are not these things from the Lord Almighty?
καὶ ἐξέλιπον λαοὶ ἱκανοὶ ἐν πυρί, καὶ ἔθνη πολλὰ ὠλιγοψύχησαν.
And many peoples have failed in the fire, and many nations have fainted.
§2.14ὅτι ἐμπλησθήσεται ἡ γῆ τοῦ γνῶναι τὴν δόξαν Κυρίου, ὡς ὕδωρ κατακαλύψει αὐτούς.
For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord; as water shall cover them.
§2.15Ὢ ὁ ποτίζων τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ ἀνατροπῇ θολερῷ, καὶ μεθύσκων, ὅπως ἐπιβλέπῃ ἐπὶ τὰ σπήλαια αὐτῶν.
Woe to him who gives his neighbor to drink a turbid ruin, and makes him drunk, that he may look upon their caves.
§2.16πλησμονὴν ἀτιμίας ἐκ δόξης πίε καὶ σύ· καρδίᾳ σαλεύθητι καὶ σείσθητι·
Drink also you, a fullness of disgrace instead of glory; shake and tremble in heart!
ἐκύκλωσεν ἐπὶ σέ ποτήριον δεξιᾶς Κυρίου, καὶ συνήχθη ἀτιμία ἐπὶ τὴν δόξαν σου.
The cup of the right hand of the Lord has came round to you, and disgrace has gathered upon your glory.
§2.17διότι ἀσέβεια τοῦ Λιβάνου καλύψει σε, καὶ ταλαιπωρία θηρίων πτοήσει σε, διὰ αἵματα ἀνθρώπων καὶ ἀσεβείας γῆς καὶ πόλεως καὶ πάντων τῶν κατοικούντων αὐτήν.
For the impiety of Lebanon shall cover you, and the misery of the beasts shall terrify you, because of the blood of men, and the impiety of the land and of the city, and of all who dwell in it.
§2.18Τί ὠφελεῖ γλυπτόν, ὅτι ἔγλυψαν αὐτό;
What does a graven image profit, because they have graven it?
ἔπλασεν αὐτὸ χώνευμα, φαντασίαν ψευδῆ, ὅτι πέποιθεν ὁ πλάσας ἐπὶ τὸ πλάσμα αὐτοῦ τοῦ ποιῆσαι εἴδωλα κωφά.
The maker formed it, a cast image, a false illusion, because the maker trusts in his work to make dumb idols.
§2.19οὐαὶ ὁ λέγων τῷ ξύλῳ Ἔκνηψον ἐξεγέρθητι, καὶ τῷ λίθῳ Ὑψώθητι καὶ αὐτό ἐστιν φαντασία, τοῦτο δέ ἐστιν ἔλασμα χρυσίου καὶ ἀργυρίου, καὶ πᾶν πνεῖμα οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν αὐτῷ.
Woe to him who says to the wood, 'Awake, arise!' and to the stone, 'Be exalted!' And it is an illusion, and this is a plate of gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in it.
§2.20ὁ δὲ κύριος ἐν ναῷ ἁγίῳ αὐτοῦ· εὐλαβείσθω ἀπὸ προσώπου πᾶσα ἡ γῆ.
But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth fear before his presence.
