§5.1νῦν ἐμφραχθήσεται θυγάτηρ ἐμφραγμῷ. συνοχὴν ἔταξεν ἐφʼ ὑμᾶς, ἐν ὸάβδῳ πατάξουσιν ἐπὶ σιαγόνα τὰς πύλας τοῦ Ἰσραήλ.
Now the daughter shall be completely enclosed by an enclosure; he has appointed a siege against you; with a rod they shall strike the gates of Israel upon the cheek.
§5.2Καὶ σύ, Βηθλέεμ οἶκος Ἐφράθα, ὀλιγοστὸς εἶ τοῦ εἶναι ἐν χιλιάσιν Ἰούδα· ἐξ οὗ μοι ἐξελεύσεται τοῦ εἶναι εἰς ἄρχοντα τοῦ Ἰσραήλ. καὶ ἔξοδοι αὐτοῦ ἀπʼ ἀρχῆς ἐξ ἡμερῶν αἰῶνος.
And you, O Bethlehem, house of Ephrathah, are too little to be among the thousands of Judah; out of you shall come forth for me one to be a ruler of Israel; and his goings forth are from the beginning, from the days of eternity.
§5.3διὰ τοῦτο δώσει αὐτοὺς ἕως καιροῦ τικτούσης τέξεται, καὶ οἱ ἐπίλοιποι τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτῶν ἐπιστρέψουσιν ἐπὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἰσραήλ.
Therefore he will give them up until the time that she who travails has brought forth; and the remnant of their brethren shall return to the children of Israel.
§5.4καὶ στήσεται καὶ ὄψεται, καὶ ποιμανεῖ τὸ ποίμνιον αὐτοῦ ἐν ἰσχύι Κύριος. καὶ ἐν τῇ δόξῃ ὀνόματος Κυρίου θεοῦ αὐτῶν ὑπάρξουσιν· διότι νῦν μεγαλυνθήσεται ἕως ἄκρων τῆς γῆς.
And he shall stand and look, and the Lord shall shepherd his flock in strength; and they shall exist in the glory of the name of the Lord their God; for now he shall be magnified to the ends of the earth.
§5.5καὶ ἔσται αὕτη εἰρήνη· Ἀσσοὺρ ὅταν ἐπέλθῃ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ὑμῶν καὶ ὅταν ἐπιβῇ ἐπὶ τὴν χώραν ὑμῶν, καὶ ἐπεγερθήσονται ἐπʼ αὐτὸν ἑπτὰ ποιμένες καὶ ὀκτὼ δήγματα ἀνθρόπων· §5.6καὶ ποιμανοῦσιν τὸν Ἀσσοὺρ ἐν όομφαίᾳ καὶ τὴν γῆν τοῦ Νεβρὼδ ἐν τῇ τάφρῳ αὐτῆς· καὶ όύσεται ἐκ τοῦ Ἀσσούρ, ὅταν ἐπέλθῃ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ὑμῶν καὶ ὅταν ἐπιβῇ ἐπὶ τὰ δρία ὑμῶν.
And this shall be peace: when the Assyrian comes into your land and when he treads upon your country, then there shall be raised up against him seven shepherds and eight bites of men; And they shall shepherd Assyria with a sword, and the land of Nimrod with her trench; and he shall rescue from the Assyrian when he comes into your land and when he treads upon your borders.
§5.7καὶ ἔσται τὸ ὑπόλιμμα τοῦ Ἰακὼβ ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ἐν μέσῳ λαῶν πολλῶν ὡς δρόσος παρὰ Κυρίου πίπτουσα καὶ ὡς ἄρνες ἐπὶ ἄγρωστιν, ὅπως μὴ συναχθῇ μηδεὶς μηδέ ὑποστῇ ἐν υἱοῖς ἀνθρώπων.
And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many peoples as dew falling from the Lord, and as lambs upon the grass, so that no one may be gathered nor anyone stand among the sons of men.
§5.8καὶ ἔσται τὸ ὑπόλιμμα Ἰακὼβ ἐν τοῖς ξθνεσιν ἐν μέσῳ πολλῶν λαῶν ὡς λέων ἐν κτήνεσιν ἐν τῷ δρυμῷ καὶ ὡς σκύμνος ἐν ποιμνίοις προβάτων, ὃν τρόπον ὅταν διέλθῃ καὶ διαστείλας ἁρπάσῃ, καὶ μὴ ἦ ὁ ἐξαιρούμενος.
And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many peoples as a lion among the beasts in the forest, and as a young lion among flocks of sheep, in the same manner as when he passes through, and having torn, he seizes, and there is none to deliver.
§5.9ὑψωθήσεται ἡ χείρ σου ἐπὶ τοὺς θλίβοντάς σε, καὶ πάντες οἱ ἐχθροί σου ἐξολεθρευθήσονται.
Your hand shall be lifted up against those who afflict you, and all your enemies shall be utterly destroyed.
§5.10Καὶ ἔσται ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ, λέγει Κύριος. ἐξολεθρεύσω τοὺς ἵππους ἐκ μέσου σου καὶ ἀπολῶ τὰ ἄρματά σου, §5.11καὶ ἐξολεθρεύσω τὰς πόλεις τῆς γῆς σου καὶ ἐξαρῶ πάντα τὰ ὐχυρώματά σου, §5.12καὶ ἐξολεθρεύσω τὰ φάρμακά σου ἐκ τῶν χειρῶν σου, καὶ ἀποφθεγγόμενοι οὐκ ἔσονται ἐν σοί §5.13καὶ ἐξολεθρεύσω τὰ γλυπτά σου καὶ τὰς στήλας σου ἐκ μέσου σου, καὶ οὐκέτι μὴ προσκυνήσῃς τοῖς ἔργοις τῶν χειρῶν σου, §5.14καὶ ἐκκόψω τὰ ἄλση ἐκ μέσου σου, καὶ ἀφανιῶ τὰς πόλεις σου, §5.15καὶ ποιήσω ἐν ὀργῇ καὶ ἐν θυμῷ ἐκδίκησιν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν, ἀνθʼ ὅν οὐκ εἰσήκουσαν.
"And it shall come to pass in that day," says the Lord, "that I will utterly destroy your horses from your midst and destroy your chariots, and I will utterly destroy the cities of your land and take away all your strongholds, and I will utterly destroy your sorceries out of your hands, and there shall be no soothsayers in you; and I will utterly destroy your carved images and your pillars out of your midst, and you shall no more worship the works of your hands; and I will cut off your groves out of your midst and destroy your cities, and I will execute vengeance in anger and wrath upon the nations, because they did not hearken."
