§6.1Ὁ δὲ κύριος ἀπέστησεν τὸν ὕπνον ἀπὸ τοῦ βασιλέως τὴν νύκτα ἐκείνην, καὶ εἶπεν τῷ διδασκάλῳ αὐτοῦ εἰσφέρειν γράμματα μνημόσυνα τῶν ἡμερῶν ἀναγινώσκειν αὐτῷ.
And the Lord took away sleep from the king that night; and he told his reader to bring the books of records of the days to read to him.
§6.2εὗρευ δὲ τὰ γράμματα τὰ γραφέντα περὶ Μαρδοχαίου, ὡς ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ βασιλεῖ περὶ τῶν δύο εὐνούχων τοῦ βασιλέως ἐν τῷ φυλάσσειν αὐτοὺς καὶ ζητῆσαι ἐπιβαλεῖλ τὰς χεῖρας Ἀρταξέρξῃ.
And he found the records written concerning Mordecai, how he had informed the king about the two eunuchs of the king, when they were on guard and sought to lay hands on Artaxerxes.
§6.3εἶπεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεύς Τίνα δόξαν ἢ χάριν ἐποιήσαμεν τῷ Μαρδοχαίηῳ; καὶ εἶπαν οἱ διάκονοι τοῦ βασιλέως Οὐκ ἐποίησας αὐτῷ οὐδέν. §6.4ἐν δὲ τῷ πυνθάνεσθαι τὸν βασιλέα περὶ τῆς εὐνοίας Μαρδοχαίου, ἰδοὺ Ἀμὰν ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ·
And the king said, "What honor or favor have we done for Mordecai?" And the king's servants said, "You have done nothing for him." And while the king was inquiring about Mordecai's loyalty, behold, Haman was in the courtyard.
εἶπεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεύς Τίς ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ; ὁ δὲ Ἀμὰν εἰσῆλθεν εἰπεῖν τῷ βασιλεῖ κρεμάσαι τὸν Μαρδοχαῖον ἐπὶ τῷ ξύλῳ ᾧ ἡτοίμασεν.
And the king said, "Who is in the courtyard?" Now Haman had come in to speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows which he had prepared.
§6.5καὶ εἶπαν οἱ διάκονοι τοῦ βασλέως Ἰδοὺ Ἁμὰν ἕστηκεν ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ· καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Καλέσατε αὐτόν. §6.6εἶπεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς τῷ Ἀμάν Τί ποιήσω τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ὃν ἐγὼ θέλω δοξάσαι; εἶπεν δὲ ἐν ἑαυτῷ ὁ Ἀμάν Τίνα θέλει ὁ βασιλεὺς δοξάσαι εἰ μὴ ἐμέ; §6.7εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Ἄνθρωπον ὃν ὁ βασιλεὺς θέλει δοξάσαι, §6.8ἐνεγκάτωσαν οἱ παῖδες τοῦ βασιλέως στολὴν βυσσίνην ἣν ὁ βασιλεὺς περιβάλλεται, καὶ ἵππον ἐφʼ ὃν ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐπιβαίνει, §6.9καὶ δότω ἑνὶ τῶν φίλων τοῦ βασιλέως τῶν ἐνδόξων καὶ στολισάτω τὸν ἄνθρωπον ὃν ὁ βασιλεὺς ἀγαπᾷ, καὶ ἀναβιβασάτω αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸν ἵππον, καὶ κηρυσσέτω διὰ τῆς πλατείας τῆς πόλεως λέγων Οὕτως ἔσται παντὶ ἀνθρώπῳ ὃν ὁ βασιλεὺς δοξάζει. §6.10εἶπεν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς τῷ Ἀμάν Καλῶς ἐλάλησας· οὕτως ποίησον τῷ Μαρδοχαίῳ τῷ Ἰουδαίῳ τῷ θεραπεύοντι ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ, καὶ μὴ παραπεσάτω σου λόγος ὧν ἐλάλησας. §6.11ἔλαβεν δὲ Ἀμὰν τὴν στολὴν καὶ τὸν ἵππον, καὶ ἐστόλμσεν τὸν Μαρδοχαῖον καὶ ἀνεβίβασεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸν ἵππον, καὶ διῆλθεν διὰ τῆς πλατείας τῆς πόλεως καὶ ἐκήρυσσεν λέγων Οὕτως ἔσται παντὶ ἀνθρώπῳ ὃν ὁ βασιλεὺς θέλει δοξάσαι. §6.12ἐπέστρεψεν δὲ ὁ Μαρδοχαῖος εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν· Ἀμὰν δὲ ὑπέστρεψεν εἰς τὰ ἴδια λυπούμενος κατὰ κεφαλῆς.
And the king's servants said, "Behold, Haman is standing in the courtyard." And the king said, "Call him." And the king said to Haman, "What shall I do for the man whom I wish to honor?" And Haman said in his heart, "Whom would the king wish to honor except me?" And he said to the king, "For the man whom the king wishes to honor, let the king's servants bring a fine linen robe which the king wears, and a horse on which the king rides, and let them give it to one of the king's noble friends, and let him clothe the man whom the king loves, and mount him on the horse, and let him proclaim through the open square of the city, saying, 'Thus shall it be done to every man whom the king honors.'" And the king said to Haman, "You have spoken well; do thus to Mordecai the Jew who serves in the courtyard, and let not a word of what you have spoken fail." And Haman took the robe and the horse, and clothed Mordecai and mounted him on the horse, and went through the open square of the city, proclaiming, "Thus shall it be done to every man whom the king wishes to honor." And Mordecai returned to the courtyard; but Haman returned to his own home, mourning with his head covered.
§6.13καὶ διηγήσατο Ἀμὰν τὰ συμβεβηκότα αὐτῷ Ζωσάρᾳ τῇ γυναικὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῖς φίλοις·
And Haman related all that had happened to him to Zosara his wife and to his friends.
καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτὸν οἱ φίλοι καὶ ἡ γυνή Εἰ ἐκ γένους Ἰουδαίων Μαρδοχαῖος, ἦρξαι ταπεινοῦσθαι ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ, πεσὼν πεσῇ· οὐ μὴ δύνῃ αὐτὸν ἀμύνασθαι, ὅτι θεὸς ζῶν μετʼ αὐτοῦ. ¹⁴ ἔτι αὐτῶν λαλούντων παραγίνονται οἱ εὐνοῦχοι ἐπισπεύδοντες τὸν Ἀμὰν ἐπὶ τὸν πότον ὃν ἡτοίμασεν Ἐσθῆήρ.
And his friends and his wife said to him, "If Mordecai is of the race of the Jews, and you have begun to be humbled before him, you will surely fall; you will not be able to defend yourself against him, because the living God is with him." ¹⁴ While they were still speaking, the eunuchs arrived, hurrying Haman to the banquet which Esther had prepared.
