§9.5.13λοιπὸν δʼ εἰπεῖν τῆς παραλίας τὴν τάξιν τῆς ὑπὸ τῷ Ἀχιλλεῖ ἀπὸ Θερμοπυλῶν ἀρξαμένους· τὴν γὰρ Λοκρικὴν καὶ ν εἰρήκαμεν.
It remains to speak of the order of the coastline under Achilles, beginning from Thermopylae; for we have already spoken of the Locrian and [Euboean] coastlines.
αἱ τοίνυν Θερμοπύλαι τοῦ μὲν Κηναίου διεστήκασιν ἑβδομηκοντασταδίῳ πορθμῷ, παραπλέοντι δʼ ἔξω Πυλῶν τοῦ Σπερχειοῦ ὡς σταδίους δέκα· ἔνθεν δʼ εἰς Φάλαρα εἴκοσι· τῶν δὲ Φαλάρων ἀπὸ θαλάττης ὑπέρκειται πεντήκοντα σταδίους ἡ τῶν ς.
Now, Thermopylae is separated from Cenaeum by a strait of seventy stadia, and to one sailing out past Pylyae, the Spercheius is about ten stadia; and thence to Phalara is twenty; and above Phalara, fifty stadia from the sea, lies the [city of the Lamians].
εἶθʼ ἑξῆς παραπλεύσαντι σταδίοις ἑκατὸν ὁ Ἐχῖνος ὑπέρκειται.
Then next, to one who has sailed a hundred stadia, Echinus lies above.
τῆς δʼ ἑξῆς παραλίας ἐν μεσογαίᾳ ἐστὶν ἡ Κρεμαστὴ Λάρισα εἴκοσι σταδίους αὐτῆς διέχουσα, ἡ δʼ αὐτὴ καὶ Πελασγία λεγομένη Λάρισα.
In the inland of the next coastline is Larisa Cremaste, being twenty stadia distant from it, the same which is also called Pelasgian Larisa.
εἶτα Μυόννησος νησίον, εἶτʼ Ἀντρών· ἦν δὲ αὕτη ὑπὸ Πρωτεσιλάῳ.
Then Myonnesos, a small island, then Antron; and this was under Protesilaus.
τοσαῦτα μὲν περὶ τῆς ὑπὸ τῷ Ἀχιλλεῖ με.
So much, then, concerning the [part] under Achilles.
§9.5.14ἐπεὶ δʼ ὁ ποιητὴς εἰς πολλὰ καὶ γνώριμα μέρη διεὰ τὸ ὀνομάζειν τούς τε ἡγεμόνας καὶ τὰς ὑπʼ αὐτοῖς τὸν σύμπαντα τῆς Θετταλίας κύκλον διέταξεν, ουθοῦντες τούτῳ πάλιν ὥσπερ ἐν τοῖς ἐπάνω σεκπληρώσομεν τὴν λοιπὴν περιοδείαν τῆς χώς.
Since the poet, [dividing] into many and well-known parts by naming the leaders and those under them, arranged the whole circuit of Thessaly, we, following him again as we did in the preceding parts, shall complete the remaining tour of the country.
καταλέγει τοίνυν ἐφεξῆς τοῖς ὑπʼ Ἀχιλλεῖ τοὺς ὑπὸ Πρωτεσιλάῳ· οὗτοι δʼ εἰσὶν οἱ καὶ ἐφεξῆς ὄντες τῇ ὑπὸ τῷ Ἀχιλλεῖ παραλίᾳ μέχρι Ἀντρῶνος.
He lists next, after those under Achilles, those under Protesilaus; and these are those who are next along the coastline under Achilles as far as Antron.
ὁριζομένη τοίνυν εξῆς ἐστὶν ἡ ὑπὸ τῷ Πρωτεσιλάῳ, ἔξω μὲν οὖσα τοῦ οῦ κόλπου, ἔτι δʼ ἐντὸς τῆς Φθιώτιδος, οὐ μὴν τῆς.
The territory next to be bounded, therefore, is that under Protesilaus, being outside the [Maliac] gulf, but still inside Phthiotis, though not [Phthia].
ἡ μὲν οὖν Φυλάκη ἐγγὺς Θηβῶν ἐστι τῶν Φθιωτίδων, αἵπερ εἰσὶ καὶ αὐταὶ ὑπὸ τῷ Πρωτεσιλάῳ· καὶ Ἅλος δὲ καὶ Λάρισα ἡ Κρεμαστὴ καὶ τὸ Δημήτριον ὑπʼ ἐκείνῳ, πᾶσαι πρὸς ἕω τῆς Ὄθρυος.
Now, Phylace is near Phthiotic Thebes, which are themselves also under Protesilaus; Halus also and Larisa Cremaste and Demetrium are under him, all to the east of Othrys.
τὸ δὲ Δημήτριον Δήμητρος εἴρηκε τέμενος καὶ ἐκάλεσε Πύρασον.
And Demetrium he called "the precinct of Demeter" and named Pyrasos.
ἦν δὲ πόλις εὐλίμενος ἡ Πύρασος ἐν δυσὶ σταδίοις, ἔχουσα Δήμητρος ἄλσος καὶ ἱερὸν ἅγιον, διέχουσα Θηβῶν σταδίους εἴκοσι· ὑπέρκεινται δὲ Πυράσου μὲν αἱ Θῆβαι.
Pyrasos was a city with a good harbor at [a distance of] two stadia, having a grove of Demeter and a holy temple, being twenty stadia distant from Thebes; and above Pyrasos lies Thebes.
τῶν Θηβῶν δὲ ἐν τῇ μεσογαίᾳ τὸ Κρόκιον πεδίον πρὸς τῷ καταλήγοντι τῆς Ὄθρυος, διʼ οὗ ὁ Ἄμφρυσος ῥεῖ.
In the inland of Thebes is the Crocian plain near the end of Othrys, through which the Amphrysus flows.
τούτου δʼ ὑπέρκειται ὁ Ἴτωνος, ὅπου τὸ τῆς Ἰτωνίας ἱερόν, ἀφʼ οὗ καὶ τὸ ἐν τῇ Βοιωτίᾳ, καὶ ὁ Κουάριος ποταμός· εἴρηται δὲ π τῆς Ἄρνης ἐν τοῖς Βοιωτιακοῖς.
Above this lies Itonus, where is the temple of Itonia (from which the one in Boeotia is also named), and the Cuarius river; which was mentioned [concerning] Arne in the Boeotian chapters.
ταῦτα δʼ ἐστὶ τῆς Θετταλιώτιδος μιᾶς τῶν τεττάρων μερίδων τῆς συμπάσης Θετταλίας, ἧς καὶ τὰ ὑπʼ Εὐρυπύλῳ καὶ ὁ Φύλλνος τοῦ Φυλλίου ἱερόν, καὶ Ἴχναι, ὅπου ἡ Θέμις Ἰχναία τιμᾶται.
These belong to Thessaliotis, one of the four divisions of the whole of Thessaly, to which also belong the territory under Eurypylus, and the temple of Phyllius at Phyllus, and Ichnae, where Themis Ichnaea is honored.
καὶ Κίερος δʼ εἰς αὐτὴν συντελεῖ καὶ τῆς Ἀθαμανίας.
And Cierus also contributes to it, and [the territory] of Athamania.
κατὰ δὲ τὸν Ἀντρῶνα ἕρμα ὕφαλον ἐν τῷ πρὸς Εὐβοίᾳ ἐστὶ πόρῳ καλούμενον ὄνος Ἀντρῶνος.
And opposite Antron there is an underwater reef in the strait towards Euboea, called "the Ass of Antron".
εἶτα Πτελεὸν καὶ ὁ Ἅλος· εἶτα τὸ τῆς Δήμητρος ἱερὸν καὶ ὁ Πύρασος κατεσκαμμένος, ὑπὲρ αὐτὸν δὲ αἱ Θῆβαι· εἶτα ἄκρα Πύρρα καὶ δύο νησία πλησίον, ὧν τὸ μὲν Πύρρα τὸ δὲ Δευκαλίων καλεῖται· ἐνταῦθα δὲ καὶ ἡ Φθιῶτίς πως τελευτᾷ.
Then Pteleum and Halus; then the temple of Demeter and Pyrasos, which has been razed, and above it Thebes; then the promontory Pyrrha and two small islands nearby, of which one is called Pyrrha and the other Deucalion; and here Phthiotis somehow ends.
