§6.26Οἱ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς μικροὺς ἔχοντες μικρόψυχοι· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τὴν ἐπιπρέπειαν καὶ ἐπὶ πίθηκον.
Those who have small eyes are small-minded; this is referred to appearance and to the ape.
Οἱ δὲ μεγαλόφθαλμοι νωθροί· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τοὺς βοῦς.
Those who have large eyes are sluggish; this is referred to oxen.
Τὸν ἄρα εὖ φύντα δεῖ μήτε μικροὺς μήτε μεγάλους ἔχειν τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς.
Therefore, the well-born person ought to have eyes that are neither small nor large.

§6.27Ἐπεὶ δὲ οὔτε ἐξόφθαλμον οὔτε κοιλόφθαλμον δεῖ εἶναι, ἡ μέση ἔξις ἂν κρατοίη.
Since one ought to be neither pop-eyed nor hollow-eyed, the middle state would prevail.
Ὄσοις ὀφθαλμοὶ μικρὸν ἐγκοιλότεροι, μεγαλόψυχοι· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τοὺς λέοντας.
Those for whom the eyes are slightly hollowed are magnanimous; this is referred to lions.
Οἶς δ' ἐπὶ πλεῖον, πραεῖς· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶτοὺς βοῦς.
Those for whom they are more so are gentle; this is referred to oxen.
§6.28Οἱ τὸ μέτωπον μικρὸν ἔχοντες ἀμαθεῖς· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶτοὺς ὗς.
Those who have a small forehead are ignorant; this is referred to swine.
Οἱ δὲ μέγα ἄγαν ἔχοντες νωθροί· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τοὺς βοῦς.
Those who have an excessively large one are sluggish; this is referred to oxen.
Οἱ δὲ περιφερὲς ἔχοντες ἀναίσθητοι· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τοὺς ὄνους.

§6.29Οἱ δὲ τετράγωνον σύμμετρον τῷ μετώπῳ ἔχοντες μεγαλόψυχοι· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τοὺς λέοντας.
Those who have a square forehead in symmetry with the face are magnanimous; this is referred to lions.
Οἱ δὲ συννεφὲς ἔχοντες αὐθάδεις· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ ταῦρον καὶ λέοντα.
Those who have a cloudy forehead are willful; this is referred to the bull and the lion.
Οἱ δ' ἀτενὲς ἔχοντες κόλακες·
Those who have a taut forehead are flatterers; this is referred to the state that occurs.
ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τὸ γιγνόμενον πάθος, Ἴδοι δ' ἄν τις ἐπὶ τῶν κυνῶν, ὅτι οἱ κύνες ἐπειδὰν θωπεύωσι, γαληνὲς τὸ μέτωπον ἔχουσιν.
One might see this in dogs, because dogs, when they fawn, have a smooth forehead.
§6.30Ἐπειδὴ οὖν ἥ τε συννεφὴς ἕξις αὐθάδειαν ἐμφαίνει ἥ τε γαληνὴ κολακείαν, ἡ μέση ἂν τούτων ἕξις εὐαρμόστως ἔχοι.
Since, therefore, the cloudy state shows willfulness and the smooth one flattery, the middle state of these would be well-adapted.
Οἱ σκυθρωπὰ μέτωπα ἔχοντες δυσάνιοι· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τὸ πάθος, ὅτι οἱ ἀνιώμενοι σκυθρωποί εἰσιν.
Those who have gloomy foreheads are discontented; this is referred to the state, because those who are discontented are gloomy.

Οἱ τὰς κεφαλὰςφοξοὶ ἀναιδεῖς· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τοὺς γαμψώνυχας.
Those with pointed heads are shameless; this is referred to birds with curved claws.

Those who have small ears are ape-like, and those with large ones are ass-like; one might see even the best of dogs having moderate ears.
§6.32Οἱ ἄγαν μέλανες δειλοί· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τοὺς Αἰγυπτίους, Αἰθίοπας.
Those who are excessively dark are cowardly; this is referred to Egyptians and Ethiopians.
Οἱ δὲ λευκοὶ ἄγαν δειλοί· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τὰς γυναῖκας.
Those who are excessively pale are cowardly; this is referred to women.
Τὸ δὲ πρὸς ἀνδρείαν συντελοῦν χρῶμα μέσον δεῖ τούτων εἶναι.
The color that contributes to bravery must be intermediate between these.
Οἱ ξανθοὶ εὔψυχοι· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τοὺς λέοντας.
Those who are yellow-haired are brave; this is referred to lions.

§6.33Οἱ δὲ ἔνωχροι καὶ τεταραγμένοι τὸ χρῶμα δειλοί· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τὸ πάθος τὸ ἐκ τοῦ φόβου γιγνόμενον.
Those who are pale and troubled in color are cowardly; this is referred to the state that arises from fear.
Οἱ δὲ μελίχλωροι ἀπεψυγμένοι εἶσίν· τὰ δὲ ψυχρὰ δυσκίνητα· δυσκινήτων δὲ ὄντων τῶν κατὰ τὸ σῶμα εἶεν ἂν βραδεῖς.
Those who are sallow are chilled; cold things are hard to move, and when the parts of the body are hard to move, they would be slow.
Οἶς τὸ χρῶμα ἐρυθρόν, ὀξεῖς, ὅτι πάντα τὰ κατὰ τὸ σῶμα ὑπὸ κινήσεως ἐκθερμαινόμενα ἐρυθραίνεται.
Those whose color is red are quick-tempered, because all parts of the body, when heated by movement, become red.
§6.34Οἶς δὲ τὸ χρῶμα φλογοειδές, μανικοί, ὅτι τὰ κατὰ τὸ σῶμα σφόδρα ἐκθερμανθέντα φλογοειδῆ χροιὰν ἴσχει· οἱ δὲ ἄκρως θερμανθέντες μανικοὶ ἂν εἴησαν.
Those whose color is fiery are mad, because the parts of the body, when excessively heated, take on a fiery color, and those who are extremely heated would be mad.
Οἶς δὲ περὶ τὰ στήθη ἐπιφλεγές ἐστι τὸ χρῶμα, δυσόργητοι· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τὸ πάθος· τοῖς γὰρ ὀργιζομένοις ἐπιφλέγεται τὰ περὶ τὰ στήθη.
Those for whom the color around the chest is flushed are quick-tempered; this is referred to the state, for the parts around the chest are flushed in those who are angry.
§6.35Οἶς τὰ περὶ τὸν τράχηλον καὶ τοὺς κροτάφους αἱ φλέβες κατατεταμέναι εἰσί, δυσόργητοι· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τὸ πάθος, ὅτι τοῖς ὀργιζομένοις ταῦτα συμβαίνει.
Those for whom the veins around the neck and temples are distended are quick-tempered; this is referred to the state, because this happens to those who are angry.
Οἶς τὸ πρόσωπον ἐπιφοινίσσον ἐστίν, αἰσχυντηλοί εἰσιν· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τὸ πάθος, ὅτι τοῖς αἰσχυνομένοις ἐπιφοινίσσεται τὸ πρόσωπον.
Those for whom the face is flushed are bashful; this is referred to the state, because the face is flushed in those who are ashamed.
§6.36Οἶς αἱ γνάθοι ἐπιφοινίσσουσιν, οἰνόφλυγες· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τὸ πάθος, ὅτι τοῖς μεθύουσιν ἐπιφοινίσσουσιν αἱ γνάθοι.
Those for whom the cheeks are flushed are wine-bibbers; this is referred to the state, because the cheeks are flushed in those who are drunk.
Οἶς δὲ ὀφθαλμοὶ ἐπιφοινίσσουσιν, ἐκστατικοὶ ὑπὸ ὀργῆς· ἀναφέρεται ἐπὶ τὸ πάθος, ὅτι οἱ ὑπ’ ὀργῆς ἐξεστηκότες ἐκφοινίσσυνται τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς.
Those for whom the eyes are flushed are out of their minds with anger; this is referred to the state, because those who are out of their minds with anger have their eyes flushed red.
