§10.1Σκιὰν γὰρ ἔχων ὁ νόμος τῶν μελλόντων ἀγαθῶν, οὐκ αὐτὴν τὴν εἰκόνα τῶν πραγμάτων, κατʼ ἐνιαυτὸν ταῖς αὐταῖς θυσίαις ἃς προσφέρουσιν εἰς τὸ διηνεκὲς οὐδέποτε δύνανται τοὺς προσερχομένους τελειῶσαι·
For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come, and not the true image of the realities itself, it can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near.
§10.2ἐπεὶ οὐκ ἂν ἐπαύσαντο προσφερόμεναι, διὰ τὸ μηδεμίαν ἔχειν ἔτι συνείδησιν ἁμαρτιῶν τοὺς λατρεύοντας ἅπαξ κεκαθαρισμένους;
Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins?
§10.3ἀλλʼ ἐν αὐταῖς ἀνάμνησις ἁμαρτιῶν κατʼ ἐνι αυτόν,
But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year.
§10.4ἀδύνατον γὰρ αἷμα ταύρων καὶ τράγων ἀφαιρεῖν ἁμαρτίας.
For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
§10.5Διὸ εἰσερχόμενος εἰς τὸν κόσμον λέγει
"
Θυσίαν καὶ προσφορὰν οὐκ ἠθέλησας, σῶμα δὲ
κατηρτίσω μοι· " §10.6"
ὁλοκαυτώματα καὶ περὶ ἁμαρτίας οὐκ εὐδόκησας. "
Consequently, when he came into the world, he said, "Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body you have prepared for me; "" in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure.
§10.7"
τότε εἶπον Ἰδοὺ ἥκω, ἐν κεφαλίδι βιβλίου γέγραπται περὶ ἐμοῦ,
τοῦ ποιῆσαι, ὁ θεός, τὸ θέλημά σου. " §10.8ἀνώτερον λέγων ὅτι
"Θυσίας καὶ προσφορὰς"
καὶ
"ὁλοκαυτώματα καὶ περὶ ἁμαρτίας οὐκ ἠθέλησας οὐδὲ εὐδόκησας,"
αἵτινες κατὰ νόμον προσφέρονται, §10.9"τότε"
εἴρηκεν
"Ἰδοὺ ἥκω τοῦ ποιῆσαι τὸ θέλημά σου· "
ἀναιρεῖ τὸ πρῶτον ἵνα τὸ δεύτερον στήσῃ.
"" Then I said, 'Behold, I have come—in the scroll of the book it is writ- ten of me— to do your will, O God.' "When he said above, "You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings" (these are offered according to the law), then he added, "Behold, I have come to do your will." He does away with the first in order to establish the second.
§10.10ἐν ᾧ
"θελήματι"
ἡγιασμένοι ἐσμὲν διὰ τῆς
"προσφορᾶς"
τοῦ
"σώματος"
Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐφάπαξ.
And by that "will" we have been sanctified through the "offering" of the "body" of Jesus Christ once for all.
§10.11Καὶ πᾶς μὲν ἱερεὺς ἕστηκεν καθʼ ἡμέραν λειτουργῶν καὶ τὰς αὐτὰς πολλάκις προσφέρων θυσίας, αἵτινες οὐδέποτε δύνανται περιελεῖν ἁμαρτίας.
And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
§10.12οὗτος δὲ μίαν ὑπὲρ ἁμαρτιῶν προσενέγκας θυσίαν εἰς τὸ διηνεκὲς
"ἐκάθισεν ἐν δεξιᾷ"
τοῦ θεοῦ, §10.13τὸ λοιπὸν ἐκδεχόμενος
"ἕως τεθῶσιν οἱ ἐχθροὶ αὐτοῦ ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν αὐτοῦ," §10.14μιᾷ γὰρ προσφορᾷ τετελείωκεν εἰς τὸ διηνεκὲς τοὺς ἁγιαζομένους.
But when this one had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time "until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet." For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
§10.15Μαρτυρεῖ δὲ ἡμῖν καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον, μετὰ γὰρ τὸ εἰρηκέναι §10.16"
Αὕτη ἡ διαθήκη ἣν διαθήσομαι
"
πρὸς αὐτούς
"
μετὰ τὰς ἡμέρας ἐκείνας, λέγει Κύριος,
διδοὺς νόμους μου ἐπὶ καρδίας αὐτῶν,
καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν διάνοιαν αὐτῶν ἐπιγράψω αὐτούς,—
" §10.17"Καὶ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν αὐτῶν"
καὶ
"τῶν ἀνομιῶν αὐτῶν οὐ μὴ μνησθησομαι ἔτι· " §10.18ὅπου δὲ ἄφεσις τούτων, οὐκέτι προσφορὰ περὶ ἁμαρτίας.
And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and on their minds I will write them," then he adds, "I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more." Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
§10.19Ἔχοντες οὖν, αδελφοί, παρρησίαν εἰς τὴν εἴσοδον τῶν ἁγίων ἐν τῷ αἵματι Ἰησοῦ, §10.20ἣν ἐνεκαίνισεν ἡμῖν ὁδὸν πρόσφατον καὶ ζῶσαν διὰ τοῦ καταπετάσματος, τοῦτʼ ἔστιν τῆς σαρκὸς αὐτοῦ, §10.21καὶ ἱερέα μέγαν ἐπὶ
"τὸν οἰκον"
τοῦ θεοῦ, §10.22προσερχώμεθα μετὰ ἀληθινῆς καρδίας ἐν πληροφορίᾳ πίστεως, ῤεραντισμενοι τὰς καρδίας ἀπὸ συνειδήσεως πονηρᾶς καὶ λελουσμένοι τὸ σῶμα ὕδατι καθαρῷ·
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
§10.23κατέχωμεν τὴν ὁμολογίαν τῆς ἐλπίδος ἀκλινῆ, πιστὸς γὰρ ὁ ἐπαγγειλάμενος·
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
§10.24καὶ κατανοῶμεν ἀλλήλους εἰς παροξυσμὸν ἀγάπης καὶ καλῶν ἔργων, §10.25μὴ ἐγκαταλείποντες τὴν ἐπισυναγωγὴν ἑαυτῶν, καθὼς ἔθος τισίν, ἀλλὰ παρακαλοῦντες, καὶ τοσούτῳ μᾶλλον ὅσῳ βλέπετε ἐγγίζουσαν τὴν ἡμέραν.
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
§10.26Ἑκουσίως γὰρ ἁμαρτανόντων ἡμῶν μετὰ τὸ λαβεῖν τὴν ἐπίγνωσιν τῆς ἀληθείας, οὐκέτι περὶ ἁμαρτιῶν ἀπολείπεται θυσία, §10.27φοβερὰ δέ τις ἐκδοχὴ κρίσεως καὶ
"πυρὸς ζῆλος ἐσθίειν"
μέλλοντος
"τοὺς ὑπεναντίους. "
For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries.
§10.28ἀθετήσας τις νόμον Μωυσέως χωρὶς οἰκτιρμῶν
"ἐπὶ δυσὶν ἢ τρισὶν μάρτυσιν ἀποθνήσκει· "
Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses.
§10.29πόσῳ δοκεῖτε χείρονος ἀξιωθήσεται τιμωρίας ὁ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ θεοῦ καταπατήσας, καὶ
"τὸ αἷμα τῆς διαθήκης"
κοινὸν ἡγησάμενος ἐν ᾧ ἡγιάσθη, καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τῆς χάριτος ἐνυβρίσας.
How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?
§10.30οἴδαμεν γὰρ τὸν εἰπόντα
"Ἐμοὶ ἐκδίκησις,"
ἐγὼ
"ἀνταποδώσω· "
καὶ πάλιν
"Κρινεῖ Κύριος τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ. " §10.31φοβερὸν τὸ ἐμπεσεῖν εἰς χεῖρας θεοῦ ζῶντος.
For we know him who said, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge his people." It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
§10.32Ἀναμιμνήσκεσθε δὲ τὰς πρότερον ἡμέρας, ἐν αἷς φωτισθέντες πολλὴν ἄθλησιν ὑπεμείνατε παθημάτων, §10.33τοῦτο μὲν ὀνειδισμοῖς τε καὶ θλίψεσιν θεατριζόμενοι, τοῦτο δὲ κοινωνοὶ τῶν οὕτως ἀναστρεφομένων γενηθέντες· §10.34καὶ γὰρ τοῖς δεσμίοις συνεπαθήσατε, καὶ τὴν ἁρπαγὴν τῶν ὑπαρχόντων ὑμῶν μετὰ χαρᾶς προσεδέξασθε, γινώσκοντες ἔχειν ἑαυτοὺς κρείσσονα ὕπαρξιν καὶ μένουσαν.
But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, sometimes being publicly exposed to abuse and affliction, and sometimes becoming partners with those so treated; for you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one.
§10.35Μὴ ἀποβάλητε οὖν τὴν παρρησίαν ἥτις ἔχει μεγάλην μισθαποδοσίαν, ὑμῶν,
Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward, yours.
§10.36ὑπομονῆς γὰρ ἔχετε χρείαν ἵνα τὸ θέλημα τοῦ θεοῦ ποιήσαντες κομίσησθε τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν·
For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.
§10.37ἔτι γὰρ μικρὸν ὅσον ὅσον,
ὁ
"ἐρχόμενος ἥξει καὶ οὐ χρονίσει· " §10.38"ὁ δὲ δίκαιός [μου] ἐκ πίστεως ζήσεται,"
καὶ
"ἐὰν ὑποστείληται, οὐκ εὐδοκεῖ ἡ ψυχή μου ἐν αὐτῷ. " §10.39ἡμεῖς δὲ οὐκ ἐσμὲν
"ὑποστολῆς"
εἰς ἀπώλειαν, ἀλλὰ
"πίστεως"
εἰς περιποίησιν ψυχῆς.
For, "Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith," and "if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him." But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.
