These and other unsuccessful operations in Macedonia were heard of from Sextus Digitius, a military tribune, who had come to Rome for the purpose of offering sacrifice.

They reported what successful operations King Perseus had carried out that summer, and how great a fear had seized the allies of the Roman people since so many cities had been brought under the power of the king.

They added that the consul's army was understrength because furloughs were commonly granted through a desire for popularity, and that the consul cast the blame for this on the military tribunes, while they in turn cast it on the consul.

Among the priests who died during that year was Lucius Flamininus; two pontiffs also passed away, Lucius Furius Philus and Gaius Livius Salinator.

In place of Furius they chose Titus Manlius Torquatus, and in place of Livius, Marcus Servilius as pontiffs.
