In the consulship of M. Cornelius and P. Sempronius—this was the fifteenth year of the Punic War—the provinces decreed were: to Cornelius, Etruria with the old army; to Sempronius, the Bruttii, so that he might enlist new legions. As for the praetors, the urban jurisdiction fell to M. Marcius, the jurisdiction concerning foreigners to L. Scribonius Libo, and also Gallia to the same, Sicily to M. Pomponius Matho, and Sardinia to Ti. Claudio Nero. For P. Scipio, his command was prolonged for a year with the army and the fleet that he had; likewise for P. Licinius, so that he might hold the Bruttii with two legions, as long as it should seem to the consul to be in the interest of the state for him to remain in the province with command; and for M. Livius and Sp. Lucretius, with two legions each, with which they had been a protection for Gallia against Mago, their command was prolonged; and for Cn. Octavius, so that when he had delivered Sardinia and the legion to Ti. Claudius, he himself might with forty warships guard the maritime coast within whatever limits the senate should have decided. Quinctius at Tarentum and C. Hostilius Tubulus at Capua, as propraetors, just as in the prior year, were each to hold their positions with their old garrisons. Concerning the command of Spain, it was proposed to the people which two proconsuls they pleased to be sent into that province.

All the tribes ordered that the same men, L. Cornelius Lentulus and L. Manlius Acidinus, should hold those provinces as proconsuls, just as they had held them in the prior year. The consuls set about holding a levy, both for enlisting new legions for the Bruttii and for the reinforcement of the other armies—for so they had been ordered by the senate.
