It has destroyed my soul; indeed I am undone.
Letting go of the joy of life, I long to die, my Child; for indeed, desolate and without a city, I am worn away, having neither mother, nor brother, nor relative to secure refuge for myself from this disaster.
§1.759Κἂν μὴ τάχιστ᾿ ἴδω σε, πῶς οἴσω, Τέκνον;
And if I do not see you very quickly, how shall I bear it, my Child?
But, O beloved Son, do not leave me desolate of you.
Take courage; for I shall arrange these things well, and your state is established more firmly; look to God as guide; and you do not know what kind of find you have found here; for in turn I will establish gifts for you, which are most beautiful in heaven, on earth, and in all creation.
And for the sake of many things, I will give you this favor.
I trust, and in no way indeed do I distrust your words.
And these things are best for me, I know well; I gave birth to you, and I know how I brought you forth; but this grief surpasses all things known.
But I entreat you by this saving suffering, which brings freedom from suffering to our race, and in a manner becoming a mother, I cling to your feet, pity, pity me, the wretched one, and do not leave me cast out, desolate of you, but receive me as a guest in your land and home, if you should not wish to execute your judgment sooner.
Thus may your complete love toward the Father reach its goal, and may I see you, who died willingly, raised from the dead on the third day, as you yourself said many times to your friends; for thus all is safer for me, and you yourself, being the blessed Child of a blessed Father, having been acknowledged, may be hymned by all creation.
Therefore, may I not lead a sorrowful life for long, and may the crowd of avenging spirits pay the penalty, having killed you, the Master of earth and sky.
For may they find the evils, as they have done, which happen to impious mortals; but indeed I do not have anxiety for them as my own children, lest those who belong to them should suffer, paying the penalty for the impious ancestral murder; but you yourself, O my offspring, light born of God, restrain, quiet, and rescue from slaughter the remnant of the beloved seed.
I praise these words, woman, nor do I blame those others, and for the sake of many things, to give you this favor I am eager, and you shall not be cast out.
For I will assist you entirely in this purpose, and you yourself shall know the reversal of loss, being delivered from this despondency.
Alas, for your noble and good mind; O Child, to what a disaster you have been yoked; yet the nobility of your mind remains intact; how great the foresight you always bring to me!
Reflecting on these things, I perceived that I had much folly and was grieving in vain, and in vain did I hold speech with myself.
I heard the crying of much-groaning wailing, I heard the voice, I heard the shout of groaning.
He calls upon God, as if indeed having suffered terrible things.
And behold, the famous Peter indeed walks away, gloomy, pitiable, and deeply stung, and he calls upon God as one who has done a great evil.
§1.815Τί, Πέτρε, θρηνεῖς;
Why, Peter, do you lament?
You did terrible things, but nonetheless it is still possible for you too to obtain forgiveness for these.
O Child, O dearest one, O Word of God, forgive; for it is natural for a man to sin, Child, and Peter sinned, fearing the crowds.
Go now in endurance, virgin mother; and I release the failure for Peter at your request; for indeed previously I obeyed your words for the sake of your piety and good mind.
And for me, let your tears be beyond question; for indeed they draw much favor from me, and release every bond of offenses.
And to you in turn I advise: hate no mortal, not even those who unlawfully suspended me on the wood.
Alas, for your ever most kindly mind; how, even while suffering, you bear no ill-will to our race, nor are you angry at those who nailed you to the wood.
§1.832Τίς γὰρ ἂν ἔτλη θυμὸν ὀργῆς σου, Τέκνον;
For who indeed could bear the wrath of your anger, Child?
§1.833ἢ τίς ἀγανάκτησιν ὑπέστη σέθεν;
Or who could withstand your indignation?
Go, go now out from the midst of the hostile ones; for those things for whose sake you came to speak with me, some have been done, and of the others I will be mindful.
