§1.2025Ὠ Τέκνον, εἴθε τάχος ἔλθοις μοι φάους· §1.2026ἔλθοις νεκρῶν κευθμῶνα καὶ σκότου πύλας §1.2027λιπὼν, ἵν’ ᾄδης χωρὶς ᾤκισται φάους, §1.2028νῦν δ’ εἶδε φῶς μέγιστον ἐν σῇ καθόδῳ.
O Child, may you come to me quickly as a light; may you come, leaving behind the hiding place of the dead and the gates of darkness, where Hades is settled apart from light, but now has seen a very great light in your descent.
§1.2029Ἔλθ’ ἐλθὲ, φάνηθι, προλαβὼν ἠοῦς σέλας.
Come, come, appear, anticipation of the brightness of dawn.
§1.2030Θεὸν Θεὸν σ’ ὀλύμπιον τὰ πάντ’ ἔχει.
All things hold you as the celestial God, as God.

Ah, ah!
§1.2032Εὐνὰς ἐρήμους τάσδε φυλάκων ὁρῶ.
I see these empty beds of the guards.
§1.2033Τί δῆτ’ ἂν εἴη;
What indeed could it be?
μῶν λόχος βέβηκέ πη;
Has their ambush gone somewhere?
Perhaps to set up some plot against us; for the crowd is bold, and now, since they rule, they are very bold.
§1.2036Τί δῆτ’, ἀδελφὴ, δρῶμεν;
What indeed, sister, are we to do?
οὐ γὰρ εὕρομεν. §1.2037ὡς ἠλπίσαμεν, ἐλπίδων δ’ ἡμάρτομεν.
For we did not find Him, as we had hoped, and we have missed our hopes.
§1.2038Πείθου, πάλιν στείχωμεν· εὖ δ’ εἴη τυχεῖν §1.2039τὸν νεκρὸν αὐτὸν καρδίαις ὡπλισμέναις· §1.2040σώζει γὰρ αὐτὸν, ὅστις εὐφρόνως Θεῷ §1.2041ἀνατίθησι· καί γε νῦν βαδιστέον.
Be persuaded, let us go back; and may it turn out well to meet the dead man himself with our hearts armed; for He saves him who, with a wise mind, commits himself to God; and indeed now we must walk.
§1.2042Ἄμμιν δὲ λίθον τίς ἄρ’ ἀποκυλίσει;
But who indeed will roll away the stone for us?
§1.2043Ὀττοτοτοτοί·
Oh, oh, oh, oh!
§1.2044Ἄναξ, Ἄναξ ἄφθιτε, τίς ὅδ’ ὁ κλόνος;
Lord, immortal Lord, what is this shaking?
§1.2045Πῶς δ’ ἐκκυλισθεὶς ἀθρόως ὦπται λίθος;
And how is the stone seen rolled away all at once?
§1.2046κενὸς δ’ ὁρᾶται καὶ τάφος τοὗ Δεσπότου.
And the tomb of the Master is also seen empty.
§1.2047Οὐκοῦν ἄπειμι καὶ φίλοις μύσταις ἐρῶ §1.2048ἄρσιν νέκυος, αὖ δ’ ὑποστρέψω τάχει· §1.2049εὕροιμι δ’ ὧδε σὺν γυναιξί σ’ αὖ, κόρη.
Therefore I shall go and tell the beloved disciples the removal of the corpse, and I shall return again quickly; and may I find you here again with the women, maiden.
§1.2050Εὖγ’ εὖγ’ ἐπανῆκες τάχιστα νῦν, φίλη· §1.2051ἐγὼ δὲ λίθον ἠρμένον βλέπουσ’ ἔτι §1.2052θαμβουμένη πέφρικα, πῶς ὧδ’ ἀθρόον §1.2053ὤφθη κυλισθείς τῆς θύρας πρὸ τοῦ τάφου.
Well done, well done, you have returned very quickly now, friend; but I, still looking at the lifted stone, shiver with astonishment, how thus all at once it was seen rolled away from before the door of the tomb.

Ah, ah!
σίγα σίγα.
Silence, silence.
§1.2055Ὁ λαμπροπυρσόμορφος οὗτος τίς δ’ ἄρα, §1.2056ὃς καθύπερθεν ἕζεται νῦν τοῦ λίθου, §1.2057πανευπρεπὴς, ἐσθῆτι λευκῇ χαρίεις;
Who indeed is this one with a bright torch-like form, who now sits on top of the stone, all-beautiful, graceful in a white robe?
§1.2058στίλβει γὰρ ὥσπερ ἁπαλὴ χιὼν νέα.
For he shines like soft, fresh snow.
§1.2059Ἰδοὺ δὲ καὶ φύλακες ὡς νεκροὶ κάτω.
And look, the guards also below are as dead.
§1.2060Ὕμμες δὲ μὴ θροεῖσθε, μηδ’ ἔστω φόβος· §1.2061ζητούμενος γὰρ οὐκέτ’ ἐστὶν ἐν τάφῳ, §1.2062Ἄναξ Ἰησοῦς τῆτες ἐσταυρωμένος· §1.2063ὅδ’ οὐκέτ’ ἐστὶν ἐν τάφῳ νεκρὸς μένων, §1.2064ἀλλ’ ἐξεγερθεὶς εἰς Γαλιλαίαν τρέχει· §1.2065ὡς εἶπε, μύσταις ὀπτάνεσθαι νῖν θέλει.
But do not be terrified, nor let there be fear; for He who is sought is no longer in the tomb, the Lord Jesus lately crucified; this one is no longer remaining dead in the tomb, but having arisen, He hastens to Galilee; as He said, He wishes now to appear to the disciples.
§1.2066Κενὸν δ’ ἰοῦσαι τὸν τόπον κατίδετε.
And go and look at the empty place.
§1.2067Ἄπιτε γοῦν, ἄπιτε καὶ ταῦτα σφίσιν §1.2068εἴπατε τρανῶς· πάντα γὰρ ἔγωγ’ ἔφην· §1.2069καὶ πάντα πᾶσιν εἴπατε ξὺν τῷ Πέτρῳ, §1.2070ὡς φροῦδος ᾅδης, Χριστὸς ἀνέστη τάφου, §1.2071τάφου δὲ λίθος εὐσθενῶς ἀπηλάθη· §1.2072φρουροί θ’ ἅϊδος θύρετρ’ ἀνεῖσαν φόβῳ §1.2073λελυμένοι, νεκροὶ δὲ πρὸς φάους χθόνα §1.2074σκιρτῶσι, σῶκον ἐκκαλούμενοι Θεὸν· §1.2075τῷ γ’ αὐτόματα δεσμὰ πάντ’ ἀπερράγη.
Go then, go and tell these things to them clearly; for I have said everything; and tell everything to all, including Peter, how Hades is vanished, Christ has arisen from the tomb, and the stone of the tomb was powerfully driven away; and the guards of Hades released the gates in fear, set free, and the dead to the light of the earth leap up, calling upon the saving God; for by Him all bonds were broken of their own accord.
§1.2076Ὠ καλλιφεγγὲς ἡλίου σέλας τόδε·
O this beautiful shining beam of the sun!
§1.2077πέφθακεν, ὡς ἤλπιστο, τέρμα φροντίδων.
It has arrived, as was hoped, the end of anxieties.
§1.2078Πέπτωκεν ἐχθρὸς, Χριστὸς ἀνέστη τάφου.
The enemy has fallen, Christ has arisen from the tomb.
§1.2079Ἠοῦς παρούσης τίς ποτ’ ἄρ’ ἡδυτέρα;
With dawn present, what indeed is sweeter?
§1.2080τί δ’ ἂν ἐμοὶ γένοιτο χαριέστερον;
And what could be more pleasing to me?
§1.2081Πῆ γοῦν τὸν ᾄδην καμβαλὼν βαίνεις, Τέχνον;
Where indeed, having overthrown Hades, do you go, Child?
§1.2082πη πη δ’ ἐγώ σε καὶ πότ’ ἂν ἴδω, Τέκνον;
Where, where, and when indeed shall I see you, Child?
§1.2083Ἔλθ’ ἐλθὲ καὶ φάνηθι μητρὶ σῇ τάχει.
Come, come, and appear to your mother quickly.
§1.2084ὄψει γε θᾶττον, ὡς ἐγᾦμαι, πλειόνων.
You shall see Him sooner than many others, as I think.
But let us depart, as the white-robed one said, to announce the joy to all the beloved disciples.
§1.2087Πρῶτον δ’ ἄπειμι πρὸς Πέτρον καὶ παρθένον, §1.2088εὐάγγελον φέρουσα βάξιν τοῖς φίλοις· §1.2089ὁ γὰρ φανεὶς εἴρηκεν εἰπεῖν καὶ Πέτρῳ.
But first I shall go to Peter and the maiden, bringing the glad tidings to the friends; for he who appeared said to tell Peter as well.
§1.2090Ἄπειμι γοῦν κένωσιν εἰπεῖν τοῦ τάφου §1.2091καὶ τὴν ὅρασιν τοῦ φανέντος καὶ λόγους· §1.2092οὗτοι δ’ ὅμως ἔδραμον ἰδεῖν τὸν τάφον, §1.2093οἶμαι δὲ πάντα σφᾶς θεωρῆσαι καλῶς.
I shall go then to tell of the emptying of the tomb and the sight of him who appeared and his words; yet they nevertheless ran to see the tomb, and I think they observed everything well.
§1.2094Ἀλλ’ ὤ· τίν’ ἀθρῶ;
But oh! whom do I see?
Δεσπότην καινῇ θέᾳ;
The Master in a new sight?
§1.2095Οὐκ οἶδ’ ἀκριβῶς· εἰκάσαι γε μὴν πάρα· §1.2096μορφῇ γὰρ οὔτι φαῦλον εἰσβαλεῖν τινά — §1.2097Χαίρετε.
I do not know exactly; yet indeed it is possible to guess; for by His form, it is by no means a mean person who approaches— Rejoice.
Rejoice, noble Son of a noble Father, King and Ruler of all, having utterly demolished the last enemy, death.
§1.2100Ἄναξ Ἄναξ ἄφθιτε, σὺ Θεὸς μέγας, §1.2101ποδῶν δὲ σῶν ἄμμιν δὸς ἅψασθαι φόβῳ· §1.2102τοὺς γὰρ ἐπ’ οὐδας νῦν κυνοῦσαι πίτνομεν, §1.2103καταπλαγεῖσαι τῇ χαρᾷ καὶ τῷ φόβῳ.
Lord, immortal Lord, you are the great God, and grant us to touch your feet in fear; for we fall now, kissing the ground at your feet, overwhelmed with joy and fear.
§1.2104Μὴ δὴ φοβεῖσθε, μηδ’ ὑμῖν ἔστω φόβος.
Do not fear indeed, nor let there be fear for you.
§1.2105Ἄπιτε δ’, ἀγγείλατ’ ἀδελφοῖς μου τάχει §1.2106ἐς Γαλιλαίαν ἀφικέσθαι, καί μέ πως §1.2107ἐκεῖσε κατίδωσιν, ὡς ἔφην σφίσιν.
Go, and announce to my brothers quickly to arrive in Galilee, and there they shall see me somehow, as I told them.
§1.2108Ὠ φαιδρότης ἄρρητός ἡλίου βολῆς,
O unutterable brightness of the sun's ray!
