ἀριστολόχιος στρογγύλη πινομένη μετ᾿ οἴνου μέλανος ποιεῖ πρὸς ἑρπετῶν δήγματα· χωρεῖ δὲ καὶ εἰς ἀντιδότους τὰς θηριακάς, χωρεῖ καὶ εἰς τὰς ποδαγρικὰς συνθέσεις, ἔτι δὲ ἐμπλάστρους.
Aristolochia rotunda, being drunk with dark wine, is effective against bites of creeping beasts; and it enters also into theriac antidotes, and enters into gout compositions, and furthermore into plasters.

It draws down menses and expels embryos; it helps asthma, hiccup, chills, spleen, ruptures, and spasms.

ταύτης τῆς βοτάνης ἡ κόμη λεία ἐναίμων ἐστὶν κολλητικὴ καὶ ἀφλέγμαντος, αἱμορραγίας τε ἐφεκτικὴ καὶ τῆς ἐκ μήτρας ἐν προσθέτῳ, καὶ τὸ ἀφέψημα δὲ αὐτῆς ἐστιν ἐγκάθισμα ῥοικαῖς, πίνεται καὶ πρὸς δυσεντερίαν.
The foliage of this herb, being ground smooth, glues bloody wounds and prevents inflammation, and is suppressive of hemorrhages and of that from the uterus when in a pessary; and its decoction is a hip-bath for women with discharges, and it is also drunk for dysentery.

ἀνεμώνη ἡ φοινικῆ·
Phoenician anemone.
ἀνεμώνη δύναμιν ἔχει δριμεῖαν, ὅθεν ὁ χυλὸς τῆς ῥίζης αὐτῆς γίνεται ἔγχυτος πρὸς κεφαλῆς κάθαρσιν.
Anemone has a sharp power, whence the juice of its root becomes an instillation for the purging of the head.
μασηθεῖσα δὲ ἡ ῥίζα ἄγει φλέγμα· ἑψηθεῖσα δὲ ἐν γλυκεῖ καὶ καταπλασσομένη ὀφθαλμῶν φλεγμονὰς αἴρει, ὁμοίως καὶ τὰς οὐλὰς ἀποσμήχει.
Being chewed, the root draws out phlegm; boiled in sweet wine and applied as a plaster, it removes eye inflammations, and likewise wipes away scars.

τούτου αἱ ῥίζαι δύναμιν ἔχουσιν διουρητικὴν καὶ ἐμμήνων κατασπαστικήν· θεραπεύει καὶ ποδάγρας ἀλγήματα καὶ σπάσματα καὶ βῆχας καὶ ῥήγματα ⋖μία τὸ πλῇθος τῆς ῥίζης ἐν οἴνῳ πινομένη.
The roots of this have a diuretic power and one that draws down menses; it cures also gout pains, spasms, coughs, and ruptures, with [one] root in quantity being drunk in wine.
ποιεῖ καὶ αὐεμεστέρους ὄσον ἀστράγαλος βρωθεῖσα καὶ ἐρπετοδήκτοις δίδοται ὠφελίμως πλῆθος τριῶν· καταπλάσσειν δὲ δεῖ τὰ δήγματα ὅλῃ τῇ βοτάνῃ σὺν οἴνῳ.
Eaten in the size of an astragalus (die), it makes people prone to vomit, and to those bitten by creeping beasts, three in quantity are given beneficially; and one must plaster the bites with the whole herb with wine.
θεραπεύει καὶ τὰ ῥυπαρὰ καὶ νεμόμενα ἕλκη, ποιεῖ καὶ πρὸς μαστῶν καὶ διδύμων φλεγμονὰς καὶ φύματα καὶ δοθιῆνας συγκαθεψομένη τρυγὶ οἴνου ἡ ῥίζα, πρὸς δὲ τὰς προσφάτους φλεγμονὰς μετ᾿ ἀλφίτου.
It cures also dirty and spreading ulcers, and the root boiled together with wine dregs is effective against inflammations of breasts and testicles, and tumors, and boils; and against recent inflammations, with barley-meal.

The juice of the root, receiving some old sweet wine, myrrh, and saffron boiled together, becomes an ointment for the eyes, and with frankincense and honey, it is effective against purulent ears.

It has a warming and diuretic power, suitable for dropsical persons and chronic sciatic patients.

Both anagallides are vulnerary, anti-inflammatory, drawers of splinters, and arresters of spreading ulcers.

And their juice, instilled into the nose, will stop toothache, if you pour it into the nostril opposite to the painful part; with Attic honey it cleanses argema and helps dimness of sight, and some say that the one having the blue flower reduces prolapsus of the anus, while the red one, applied as a plaster, irritates.

This, ground fresh with old hog's lard, is effective against those bitten by mad dogs and those with goiter, and used as a fumigant, it drives away wild beasts.
