§2323.
23.
Concerning urine, if it is voided sometimes clear, and sometimes having a white and smooth sediment, these conditions are more prolonged and less safe than the best urine.
If the urine is reddish and thin for a long time, there is a danger that the patient may not be able to hold out until the urine is cocted; and if there are other signs of his survival, expect in these cases a metastasis about to occur to the parts below the diaphragm.
§2424.
24.
In fevers, if the urine undergoes changes, it signifies a long duration, and it is necessary for the patient to change both for the worse and for the other way.
§2525.
25.
If the urine at the beginning is not consistent, but becomes thick from thin, and completely thin, such states are difficult to decide and unstable.
§2626.
26.
Cold sweats with an acute fever are deadly, but with a milder one they signify a long duration of the disease.
§2727.
27.
And in whatever part of the body there is heat or cold, wherever this is present, there is the disease.
§2828.
28.
And where in the whole body acute changes occur, and if the body becomes cold or in turn heated, or if one color changes after another, they signify a long duration of the disease.
§2929.
29.
And if in a feverish patient a sweat supervenes without the fever leaving, it is bad; for the disease is prolonged and it signifies excess of moisture.
§3030.
30.
In a feverish patient, cold sweats supervening signify a long fever.
§3131.
31.
A copious sweat occurring without a crisis in a healthy person signifies disease, less so in summer, but more so in cold weather.
§3232.
32.
In those whose excrements, if you let them settle, have a sediment like scrapings, if they are few, the disease is slight; if many, it is great; for these it is beneficial to wash out the bowels.
In those whose lower excrements have black bile beneath them, if there is more, the disease is greater; if less, it is less.
§3333.
33.
If the vessels throb, and the face is full of vigor, and the hypochondria are not loose but elevated, the disease is prolonged, and is not resolved without a spasm, or a copious flow of blood from the nose, or severe pain.
§3434.
34.
And throbbings in the hands are a sign of a prolonged fever, or of a rapid crisis for the worse; and in most of these cases they lead to death.
§3535.
35.
In those who are about to perish in the shortest time, the greatest signs appear from the beginning; for they have difficulty breathing, do not sleep at night, and show dangerous signs.
§3636.
36.
In a continuous fever, if the patient suffers on the fourth and seventh days, and it is not resolved on the eleventh, it is deadly for the most part.
§3737.
37.
Those who are seized with tetanus perish within four days; but if they escape these, they become well.
§3838.
38.
In burning fevers, if jaundice and hiccup supervene on the fifth day, it is fatal.
§3939.
39.
Relapses attack those who, after becoming free of fever, develop severe sleeplessness, or troubled sleep, or weakness of the body, or pains in each of the limbs, and those in whom the fevers cease without resolving signs occurring and not on critical days.
And if, when the fever has left and a sweat has supervened, the patient voids reddish urine having a white sediment, expect in these a relapse of the fever on the very same day; and these relapses, being resolved on the fifth day, are without danger.
And if, after a crisis has occurred, he voids red urine having a red sediment, in these also a relapse of the fever occurs on the very same day, and few of them survive.
When the burning fever relapses, it generally both sweats out and, having relapsed, lasts as many days as the first time; and the fever also relapses even a third time, unless it leaves on an odd day after relapsing.
For the most part, if, when the urine is unconcocted and the other signs are not reasonable, the disease leaves not on a critical day, it relapses; and sometimes it even relapses on a critical day, when such conditions are left behind.
