Ἕτερος τρόπος· προσφύεται πρὸς τῇ αἱματίτιδι τῇ κονδυλώδει οἷον συκαμίνου καρπός· καὶ ἢν μὲν ἔξω σφόδρα ᾖ ἡ κονδύλωσις, περιπέφυκεν αὐτῇ καλυπτὴρ ὁ τῆς σαρκός.
Another method: on the condylomatous red-hemorrhoid there grows a thing like a mulberry fruit; and if the condyloma is very much on the outside, a covering of flesh is grown around it.
Καθίσας οὖν τὸν ἄνθρωπον ὀκλὰξ ἐπὶ ὅλμων δύο, σκόπει· εὑρήσεις γὰρ πεφυσημένα τὰ μεσηγὺ τῶν γλουτῶν παρὰ τὴν ἕδρην, τὸ δὲ αἷμα ἐκχωρέον ἔνδοθεν.
Therefore, having seated the man squatting on two mortars, examine him; for you will find the parts between the buttocks next to the anus swollen, and the blood escaping from within.
Ἢν γοῦν ἐνδιδῷ ὑπὸ τῷ καλυπτῆρι, τὸ κονδύλωμα τῷ δακτύλῳ ἀφελεῖν· οὐδὲν γὰρ χαλεπώτερον ἤ περ προβάτου δειρομένου τὸν δάκτυλον μεταξὺ τοῦ δέρματος καὶ τῆς σαρκὸς περαίνειν· καὶ ταῦτα διαλεγόμενος ἅμα λάνθανε ποιέων. Ἐπὴν δὲ ἀφέλῃς τὸ κονδύλωμα, ἀνάγκη ῥέεσθαι δρόμους αἵματος ἀπὸ πάσης τῆς ἀφαιρέσιος· ταῦτα χρὴ ἀποπλῦναι οἴνῳ αὐστηρῷ, κηκίδας ἐναποβρέξας· καὶ ἥ τε αἱματῖτις οἰχήσεται σὺν τῷ κονδυλώματι, καὶ τὸ κάλυμμα καταστήσεται, καὶ ὅσῳ ἂν παλαιότερον ᾖ, ῥηϊδίως ἔσται ἡ ἴησις.
If, then, it yields under the covering, remove the condyloma with your finger; for it is not at all more difficult than to pass the finger between the skin and the flesh of a flayed sheep; and do this at the same time while talking to him, so as to escape his notice.

Ἢν δὲ ἀνωτέρω ᾖ ἡ κονδύλωσις, τῷ κατοπτῆρι σκέπτεσθαι, καὶ μὴ ἐξαπατᾶσθαι ὑπὸ τοῦ κατοπτῆρος· διοιγόμενος γὰρ ὁμαλύνει τὴν κονδύλωσιν, ξυναγόμενος δὲ πάλιν δείκνυσιν ὀρθῶς.
But if the condyloma is higher up, examine with the speculum, and do not be deceived by the speculum; for when it is opened, it flattens the condyloma, but when closed, it shows it correctly again.
Ἀφαιρέειν δὲ χρὴ, ἑλλεβόρῳ μέλανι ὑπαλείφοντα τὸν δακτύλιον· ἔπειτα τριταῖον οἴνῳ κλύζειν αὐστηρῷ.
And one must remove it, smearing the finger-stall with black hellebore; then on the third day, wash with astringent wine.
Τὸ δὲ αἷμα, ὅταν ἀφέλῃς τὴν κονδύλωσιν, ὅτι οὐ ῥέει, μὴ θαυμάζειν· οὐδὲ γὰρ ἢν ἐν τοῖσιν ἄρθροισι διατάμῃς τὰς χεῖρας ἢ τὰ σκέλεα, οὐ ῥεύσεται αἷμα· ἢν δ’ ἄνωθεν ἢ κάτωθεν τάμῃς τῶν ἄρθρων, εὑρήσεις κοίλας φλέβας καὶ αἱμόῤῥους, καὶ χαλεπῶς ἂν ἴσχοις εὐπόρως.
Do not wonder that the blood does not flow when you remove the condyloma; for neither if you cut off the hands or the legs at the joints will blood flow; but if you cut above or below the joints, you will find hollow veins and bleeding ones, and you would only with difficulty restrain it easily.
Οὕτω καὶ τὴν ἐν τῇ ἕδρῃ αἱμοῤῥοΐδα, ἢν μὲν ἄνωθεν ἢ κάτωθεν τάμῃς τῆς ἀφαιρέσιος τοῦ κονδυλώματος, αἷμα ῥεύσεται· ἢν δὲ αὐτὴν ἀφέλῃς τὴν κονδύλωσιν ἐν τῇ προσφύσει, οὐ ῥεύσεται.
So also with the hemorrhoid in the anus: if you cut above or below the place of removal of the condyloma, blood will flow; but if you remove the condyloma itself at its attachment, it will not flow.
Ἢν μὲν οὖν οὕτω καθίσταται, καλῶς ἂν ἔχοι· ἢν δὲ μὴ, καῦσαι, φυλασσόμενος ὡς μὴ ἅψῃ τῷ σιδήρῳ, ἀλλ’ ἐγγὺς προσφέρων τὰ σιδήρια ἀποξηραίνειν, καὶ προστιθέναι τὸ τοῦ χαλκοῦ ἄνθος τὸ ἐν τῷ οὔρῳ.
If, then, it is settled in this way, it would be well; but if not, burn it, taking care not to touch it with the iron, but bringing the iron instruments near to dry it up, and apply the flower of copper in urine.

Ἕτερος τρόπος ἰήσιος αἱμοῤῥοΐδων· καυστῆρα ποιήσασθαι, οἷον καλαμίσκον φραγμίτην· σιδήριον δὲ ἐναρμόσαι καλῶς ἁρμόζον· ἔπειτα τὸν αὐλίσκον ἐνθεὶς ἐς τὴν ἕδρην, διαφαῖνον τὸ σιδήριον καθιέναι, καὶ πυκνὰ ἐξαιρέειν, ἵνα μᾶλλον ἀνέχηται θερμαινόμενος· καὶ οὔτε ἕλκος ἕξει ὑπὸ τῆς θερμασίης, ὑγιέα τε ξηρανθέντα τὰ φλέβια.
Another method of treating hemorrhoids: make a cautery pipe, like a reed used for fences; and fit into it an iron instrument that fits well; then, having inserted the small tube into the anus, let down the red-hot iron, and withdraw it frequently, so that the patient being heated may bear it better; and he will neither have an ulcer from the heat, and the small veins will be dried up and healthy.

Ἢν δὲ βούλῃ μήτε καίειν, μήτε ἀποτάμνειν, προκαταιονήσας ὕδατι πολλῷ θερμῷ, καὶ ἐκτρέψας τὴν ἕδρην, σμύρναν τρίψας λείην καὶ κηκίδα, καὶ στυπτηρίην αἰγυπτίην κατακαύσας, ἓν καὶ ἥμισυ πρὸς τἄλλα, καὶ μελαντηρίης ἄλλο τοσοῦτον, τουτέοισι ξηροῖσι χρῆσθαι· ἡ δὲ αἱμοῤῥοῒς τουτέοισι τοῖσι φαρμάκοισιν ἀποστήσεται, ὥσπερ σκύτος κατακεκαυμένον· ταῦτα ποιέειν μέχοις ἂν πάσας ἀφανίσῃς.
But if you wish neither to burn nor to cut off, having first fomented with much warm water and turned out the anus, use dry myrrh ground smooth, gallnut, and burnt Egyptian alum, one and a half parts to the other ingredients, and another equal portion of melanteria; and the hemorrhoid will slough off by these medicines like burnt hide; do this until you make them all disappear.
Καὶ χαλκίτιδος ἥμισυ κεκαυμένον τωὐτὸ ἀπεργάζεται.
And half of burnt chalcitis does the same.

Ἢν δὲ βούλῃ βαλάνοισιν ἰῆσθαι, σηπίης ὄστρακον, μολυβδαίνης τρίτον μέρος, ἄσφαλτον, στυπτηρίην, ἄνθος ὀλίγον, κηκίδα, χαλκοῦ ἰὸν ὀλίγον, τουτέων μέλι ἑφθὸν καταχέας, βάλανον ποιήσας μακροτέρην, προστίθει, μέχρις ἂν ἀφανίσῃς.
And if you wish to treat with suppositories: cuttlefish bone, a third part of lead ore, asphalt, alum, a little flower of copper, gallnut, a little verdigris; having poured boiled honey over these and made a rather long suppository, insert it, until you make them disappear.

Γυναικείην αἱμοῤῥοΐδα ὧδε θεραπεύειν· πολλῷ ὕδατι θερμῷ αἰονήσας, σύνεψε δὲ ἐν τῷ θερμῷ τῶν εὐωδέων, τρίψας μυρίκην, λιθάργυρον ὀπτὴν, καὶ κηκίδα, οἶνον λευκὸν παράχεε καὶ ἔλαιον καὶ χηνὸς στέαρ, τρίψας ὁμοῦ πάντα, διδόναι, ὁκόταν αἰονηθῇ, διαχρήσασθαι· αἰονᾷν δὲ καὶ τὴν ἕδρην ἐξώσας ὡς μάλιστα.
Treat hemorrhoids in women in this way: having fomented with much warm water, and boil together with the warm water some sweet-smelling herbs; having ground tamarisk, roasted litharge, and gallnut, pour in white wine, olive oil, and goose grease; having ground all together, give them to be used when she has been fomented; and foment having pushed out the anus as much as possible.
