"There are no speeches nor words, whose voices are not heard" of either days or nights.
"Their sound went out into all the earth." He transferred the saying to the holy ones alone, whom he has called both heavens and days.
The stars, which are spiritual bodies, associated with and governed by the presiding angels, are not causes of generation, but signs of things happening, to happen, and having happened, both during atmospheric changes, and fertility and barrenness, and pestilences and conflagrations, and in the case of men.
The stars do not produce actions even in a dream, but point out "things that are, things that will be, and things that were before." "And in the sun He set His tabernacle." Here there is a hyperbaton; for the discourse is about the second coming.
Thus, therefore, one must read the hyperbaton in sequence: "And he, as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, will rejoice as a giant to run his course.
His going forth is from the end of heaven, and there is no one who shall be hidden from his heat." And then: "In the sun He set His tabernacle." Some, then, say that the Lord lays aside His body in the sun, like Hermogenes; and some say that the "body" is His tabernacle, and others the church of the believers, while our Pantaenus used to say that "prophecy brings forth its words indefinitely for the most part, and uses the present tense instead of the future, and again the present instead of the past," which appears also now.
For "He set" (etheto) is assigned to both the past and the future; to the future, because when this period according to the present state is fulfilled, the Lord will come to the righteous believers, in whom He rests as in a tabernacle; for all who have chosen the same faith and righteousness from the same race are one body, destined to be restored to the same unity; but some as head, others as eyes, others as ears.
And some as hands, others as breasts, others as feet, will be set bright in the sun, "shining like the sun" or in the sun, since a ruling angel is in the sun; for he is appointed for the rule of days, just as the moon is for the ruling of night; and angels were called days.
With the angels in the sun, he says, they will be stationed (the sun being like one head of a body which is one), they themselves being destined at some period to become rulers of days, just as that angel over the sun will go on to what is greater, to which the one before him in the same [sun] migrated.
And ascending again according to progress, they will arrive at the first abode.
But according to "He set" in the past, [He set] the first-created angels so as no longer to minister to what is determined according to providence, but to be in rest and devoted solely to the contemplation of God; and those who are closer to these will progress into the rank which those have left, and likewise those below them proportionally.
