§4.72.1οἱ δὲ Μακεδόνες εἰσπεσόντες τὴν μὲν ἐνδομενίαν ἅπασαν ἐκ τῶν οἰκιῶν παραχρῆμα διήρπασαν, μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα ταῖς οἰκίαις ἐπισκηνώσαντες κατεῖχον τὴν πόλιν.
The Macedonians, having rushed in, immediately pillaged all the household property from the houses, and after this, having quartered themselves in the houses, held possession of the city.
§4.72.2οἱ δὲ συμπεφευγότες εἰς τὴν ἀκρόπολιν, οὐδεμιᾶς σφίσι παρασκευῆς ὑπαρχούσης, προορώμενοι τὸ μέλλον ἔγνωσαν ἐγχειρίζειν σφᾶς αὐτοὺς τῷ Φιλίππῳ.
Those who had fled together to the citadel, since they had no preparation, looking forward to the future, decided to surrender themselves to Philip.
§4.72.3πέμψαντες οὖν κήρυκα πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα, καὶ λαβόντες συγχώρημα περὶ πρεσβείας, ἐξαπέστειλαν τοὺς ἄρχοντας καὶ μετὰ τούτων Εὐριπίδαν· οἳ καὶ ποιησάμενοι σπονδὰς ἔλαβον τὴν ἀσφάλειαν τοῖς συμπεφευγόσιν ὁμοῦ ξένοις καὶ πολίταις.
Having therefore sent a herald to the king, and having obtained permission to send an embassy, they dispatched the magistrates and with them Euripidas; who, having made a treaty, secured safety for those who had fled together, both foreigners and citizens alike.
§4.72.4οὗτοι μὲν οὖν αὖτις ἐπανῆλθον ὅθεν ὥρμησαν, ἔχοντες παράγγελμα μένειν κατὰ χώραν, ἕως ἂν ἡ δύναμις ἀναζεύξῃ, μή τινες ἀπειθήσαντες τῶν στρατιωτῶν διαρπάσωσιν αὐτούς·
These, then, returned again to the place from which they had started, having an order to remain where they were until the army should march away, lest some of the soldiers, disobeying orders, should plunder them.
§4.72.5ὁ δὲ βασιλεὺς ἐπιγενομένης χιόνος ἠναγκάσθη μένειν ἐπὶ τόπου τινὰς ἡμέρας.
But the king, a snowstorm having come on, was forced to remain on the spot for some days.
ἐν αἷς συναγαγὼν τοὺς παρόντας τῶν Ἀχαιῶν πρῶτον μὲν τὴν ὀχυρότητα καὶ τὴν εὐκαιρίαν ἐπεδείκνυε τῆς πόλεως πρὸς τὸν ἐνεστῶτα πόλεμον, §4.72.6ἀπελογίσατο δὲ καὶ τὴν αἵρεσιν καὶ τὴν εὔνοιαν, ἣν ἔχοι πρὸς τὸ ἔθνος, ἐπὶ δὲ πᾶσιν ἔφη καὶ νῦν παραχωρεῖν καὶ διδόναι τοῖς Ἀχαιοῖς τὴν πόλιν· προκεῖσθαι γὰρ αὐτῷ τὰ δυνατὰ χαρίζεσθαι καὶ μηθὲν ἐλλείπειν προθυμίας.
During which, having assembled those of the Achaeans who were present, he first pointed out the strength and the advantageous position of the city for the ongoing war, and he also set forth the policy and goodwill which he had toward the nation, and above all, he said that even now he surrendered and gave the city to the Achaeans; for he said that it was his set purpose to gratify them in all possible ways and to lack nothing in zeal.
§4.72.7ἐφʼ οἷς εὐχαριστούντων αὐτῷ τῶν τε περὶ τὸν Ἄρατον καὶ τῶν πολλῶν, διαλύσας τὴν ἐκκλησίαν ὁ μὲν Φίλιππος μετὰ τῆς δυνάμεως ἀναζεύξας ἐπὶ Λασιῶνος ἐποιεῖτο τὴν πορείαν,
Upon this, while Aratus and his followers and the majority were returning thanks to him, Philip, having dissolved the assembly, marched away with his force and directed his route toward Lasion.
§4.72.8οἱ δὲ Ψωφίδιοι καταβάντες ἐκ τῆς ἄκρας ἐκομίσαντο τὴν πόλιν καὶ τὰς οἰκήσεις ἕκαστοι τὰς αὑτῶν, οἱ δὲ περὶ τὸν Εὐριπίδαν ἀπῆλθον εἰς τὸν Κόρινθον κἀκεῖθεν εἰς Αἰτωλίαν.
The Psophidians, having come down from the citadel, recovered the city and each their own dwellings, while Euripidas and his followers went away to Corinth and from there to Aetolia.
§4.72.9τῶν δʼ Ἀχαϊκῶν ἀρχόντων οἱ παρόντες ἐπὶ μὲν τὴν ἄκραν ἐπέστησαν μετὰ φυλακῆς ἱκανῆς Πρόσλαον Σικυώνιον, ἐπὶ δὲ τὴν πόλιν Πυθίαν Πελληνέα.
And of the Achaean magistrates, those who were present appointed Proslaus of Sicyon, with a sufficient guard, over the citadel, and Pythias of Pellene over the city.
§4.72.10καὶ τὰ μὲν περὶ Ψωφῖδα τοῦτον ἐπετελέσθη
And thus the affairs concerning Psophis were accomplished.
