ὁ δʼ Ἀντίγονος ἀσφαλῶς εἰς τὴν Πελοπόννησον εἰσελθὼν παρέλαβε τὸν Ἀκροκόρινθον, οὐδένα δὲ χρόνον μείνας εἴχετο τῶν προκειμένων καὶ παρῆν εἰς Ἄργος.
But Antigonus, having safely entered the Peloponnese, took over the Acrocorinth, and without waiting any time, he set to work on his immediate tasks and arrived at Argos.
§2.54.2ἐπαινέσας δὲ τοὺς Ἀργείους καὶ καταστησάμενος τὰ κατὰ τὴν πόλιν αὖθις ἐκ ποδὸς ἐκίνει, ποιούμενος τὴν πορείαν ὡς ἐπʼ Ἀρκαδίας.
Having praised the Argives and settled the affairs of the city, he immediately moved his army again, making his way as if towards Arcadia.
§2.54.3ἐκβαλὼν δὲ τὰς φρουρὰς ἐκ τῶν ἐποικοδομηθέντων χωρίων ὑπὸ Κλεομένους κατά τε τὴν Αἰγῦτιν καὶ Βελμινᾶτιν χώραν καὶ παραδοὺς τὰ φρούρια Μεγαλοπολίταις ἧκε πρὸς τὴν τῶν Ἀχαιῶν σύνοδον εἰς Αἴγιον.
Having expelled the garrisons from the places fortified by Cleomenes in the territories of Aegytis and Belminatis, and having handed these fortresses over to the Megalopolitans, he came to Aegeum for the assembly of the Achaeans.
§2.54.4ἀπολογισάμενος δὲ περὶ τῶν καθʼ αὑτὸν καὶ χρηματίσας περὶ τῶν μελλόντων, ἔτι δὲ κατασταθεὶς ἡγεμὼν ἁπάντων τῶν συμμάχων, §2.54.5μετὰ ταῦτα χρόνον μέν τινα παραχειμάζων διέτριβε περὶ Σικυῶνα καὶ Κόρινθον.
After rendering an account of his past actions and transacting business concerning the future, and having besides been appointed commander-in-chief of all the allies, thereafter he spent some time wintering around Sicyon and Corinth.
τῆς δʼ ἐαρινῆς ὥρας ἐνισταμένης ἀναλαβὼν τὰς δυνάμεις προῆγε.
But as the spring season was setting in, he took up his forces and advanced.
§2.54.6καὶ διανύσας τριταῖος πρὸς τὴν τῶν Τεγεατῶν πόλιν, ἀπηντηκότων καὶ τῶν Ἀχαιῶν ἐνταῦθα, περιστρατοπεδεύσας ἤρξατο πολιορκεῖν αὐτήν.
And having arrived on the third day at the city of the Tegeans, where the Achaeans also had met him, he encamped around it and began to besiege it.
§2.54.7τῶν δὲ Μακεδόνων ἐνεργῶς χρωμένων τῇ τε λοιπῇ πολιορκίᾳ καὶ τοῖς ὀρύγμασι, ταχέως ἀπελπίσαντες οἱ Τεγεᾶται τὴν σωτηρίαν παρέδοσαν αὑτούς.
Since the Macedonians were energetically employing the rest of the siege operations and the mining, the Tegeans quickly despaired of safety and surrendered themselves.
§2.54.8ὁ δʼ Ἀντίγονος ἀσφαλισάμενος τὰ κατὰ τὴν πόλιν εἴχετο κατὰ τὸ συνεχὲς τῶν ἑξῆς καὶ προῆγε κατὰ σπουδὴν εἰς τὴν Λακωνικήν.
Antigonus, having secured the affairs of the city, kept to what followed in continuous order and advanced with speed into Laconia.
§2.54.9ἐγγίσας δὲ τῷ Κλεομένει προκαθημένῳ τῆς ἑαυτοῦ χώρας κατεπείραζε καὶ συνίστατό τινας ἀκροβολισμούς.
Having approached Cleomenes, who was posted in defense of his own country, he made trials of him and engaged in some skirmishes.
§2.54.10προσπεσόντος δὲ διὰ τῶν κατασκόπων αὐτῷ τοὺς ἐξ Ὀρχομενοῦ στρατιώτας παραβεβοηθηκέναι πρὸς τὸν Κλεομένη, παραυτίκα ποιησάμενος ἀναζυγὴν ἠπείγετο.
When news reached him through his scouts that the soldiers from Orchomenus had come to the aid of Cleomenes, he immediately broke camp and hastened thither.
§2.54.11καὶ τὸν μὲν Ὀρχομενὸν ἐξ ἐφόδου κατὰ κράτος εἷλε· μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα περιστρατοπεδεύσας τὴν τῶν Μαντινέων ἐπολιόρκει πόλιν.
And indeed he took Orchomenus by storm at the first assault; and after this, encamping around it, he began to besiege the city of the Mantineans.
§2.54.12ταχὺ δὲ καὶ ταύτην καταπληξαμένων τῶν Μακεδόνων καὶ λαβόντων ὑποχείριον, ἀναζεύξας προῆγε τὴν ἐφʼ Ἡραίας καὶ Τελφούσης.
And when the Macedonians had quickly struck terror into this city also and got it in their power, he broke camp and advanced on the road to Heraea and Telphusa.
§2.54.13παραλαβὼν δὲ καὶ ταύτας τὰς πόλεις, ἐθελοντὴν προσχωρησάντων αὐτῷ τῶν κατοικούντων, οὕτως ἤδη συνάπτοντος τοῦ χειμῶνος παρῆν εἰς Αἴγιον πρὸς τὴν τῶν Ἀχαιῶν σύνοδον.
Having taken over these cities too, as the inhabitants voluntarily submitted to him, now as winter was drawing near, he arrived at Aegeum for the assembly of the Achaeans.
§2.54.14καὶ τοὺς μὲν Μακεδόνας ἐπʼ οἴκου διαφῆκε πάντας εἰς τὴν χειμασίαν, αὐτὸς δὲ τοῖς Ἀχαιοῖς διελέγετο καὶ συνδιενοεῖτο περὶ τῶν ἐνεστώτων.
And he dismissed all the Macedonians to their homes for wintering, while he himself conversed with the Achaeans and consulted with them on the current situation.
