§1.21καὶ ἐπῆλθεν ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον ἐν ᾧ ἦσαν οἱ ἱερεῖς καταγινόμενοι, καὶ εἶρε τὰ βρώματα τοῦ Βὴλ καὶ τὸν οἶνον· καὶ ἐπέδειξε Δανιὴλ τῷ βασιλεῖ τὰ ψευδοθύρια, δι᾿ ὧν εἰσπορευόμενοι οἱ ἱερεῖς ἐδαπάνων τὰ παρατιθέμενα τῷ Βήλ.
And the king went to the house where the priests were residing, and found the food of Bel and the wine; and Daniel showed the king the secret doors, through which the priests entered and consumed the things set before Bel.
§1.22καὶ ἐξήγαγεν αὐτοὺς ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐκ τοῦ Βηλίου, καὶ παρέδωκεν αὐτοὺς τῷ Δανιὴλ· καὶ τὴν δαπάνην τὴν εἰς αὐτὸν ἔδωκε τῷ Δανιὴλ, τὸν δὲ Βὴλ κατέστρεψε.
And the king brought them out of the Belion, and delivered them to Daniel; and he gave the expense spent on Bel to Daniel, and destroyed Bel.
§1.23Καὶ ἣν δράκων ἐν τῷ αὐτῷ τόπῳ, καὶ ἐσέβοντο οἱ Βαβυλώνιοι.
And there was a dragon in the same place, and the Babylonians worshipped it.
§1.24καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τῷ Δανιὴλ Μὴ καὶ τοῦτον ἐρεῖς ὅτι χαλκοῦς ἐστιν;
And the king said to Daniel, "Will you not say of this one also that he is of brass?
ἰδοὺ ζῇ καὶ ἐσθίει καὶ πίνει, προσκύνησον αὐτῷ. §1.26καὶ εἶπεν Δανιὴλ Βασιλεῦ, δός μοι τὴν ἐξουσίαν, καὶ ἀνελῶ τὸν δράκοντα ἄνευ σιδήρου καὶ ῤάβδου. καὶ συνεχώρησεν αὐτῷ ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Δέδοταί σοι. §1.27καὶ λαβὼν ὁ Δανιὴλ πίσσης μνᾶς τριάκοντα καὶ στέαρ καὶ τρίχας ἥψησεν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ καὶ ἐποίησεν μάζαν, καὶ ἐνέβαλεν εἰς τὸ στόμα τοῦ δράκοντος· καὶ φαγὼν διερράγη.
Behold, he lives and eats and drinks; worship him." And Daniel said, "O king, give me the authority, and I will slay the dragon without iron and rod." And the king permitted him and said to him, "It is given to you." And Daniel took thirty minas of pitch, and fat, and hair, and boiled them together and made a cake, and cast it into the mouth of the dragon; and having eaten it, the dragon burst asunder.
καὶ ἔδειξεν αὐτὸν τῷ βασιλεῖ λέγων Οὐ ταῦτα σέβεσθε, βασιλεῦ; §1.28καὶ συνήχθησαν οἱ ἀπὸ τῆς χώρας πάντες ἐπὶ τὸν Δανιὴλ καὶ εἶπαν Ἰουδαῖος γέγονεν ὁ βασιλεύς· τὸν Βὴλ κατέστρεψε καὶ τὸν δράκοντα ἀπέκτεινε. §1.30καὶ ἰδὼν ὁ βασιλεὺς ὅτι ἐπισυνήχθη ὁ ὄχλος τῆς χώρας ἐπʼ αὐτόν, ἐκάλεσε τοὺς συμβιωτὰς αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν Δίδωμι τὸν Δανιὴλ εἰς ἀπώλειαν. §1.31–32 ἧν δὲ λάκκος ἐν ᾧ ἐτρέφοντο λέοντες ἑπτά, οἷς παρεδίδοντο οἱ ἐπίβουλοι τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ ἐχορηγεῖτο αὐτοῖς καθʼ ἑκάστην ἡμέραν τῶν ἐπιθανατίων σώματα δύο.
And he showed him to the king, saying, "Is it not these things that you worship, O king?" And all the people of the country gathered together against Daniel and said, "The king has become a Jew; he has destroyed Bel and killed the dragon." And the king, seeing that the crowd of the country was gathered against him, called his companions and said, "I deliver Daniel to destruction." –32 Now there was a pit in which seven lions were kept, to which the king's conspirators were delivered, and every day two bodies of those condemned to death were supplied to them.
καὶ ἐνεβάλοσαν τὸν Δανιὴλ οἱ ὄχλοι εἰς ἐκεῖνον τὸν λάκκον, ἴνα καταβρωθῇ καὶ μηδέ ταφῆς τύχῃ.
And the crowds cast Daniel into that pit, so that he might be devoured and not even obtain a burial.
καὶ ἣν ἐν τῷ λάκκῳ Δανιὴλ ἡμέρας ἔξ.
And Daniel was in the pit six days.
§1.33καὶ ἐγένετο τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἕκτῃ καὶ ἣν Ἁμβακοὺμ ἔχων ἄρτους ἐντεθρυμμένους ἐν σκάφῃ ἐν ἑψήματι καὶ στάμνον οἴνου κεκερασμένου, καὶ ἐπορεύετο εἰς τὸ πεδίον πρὸς τοὺς θεριστάς.
And it came to pass on the sixth day, that Habakkuk had bread crumbled in a bowl in broth, and a jar of mixed wine, and was going into the field to the reapers.
§1.34καὶ ἐλάλησεν ἄγγελος Κυρίου πρὸς Ἁμβακοὐμ λέγων Γάδε λέγει σοι Κύριος ὁ θεός Τὸ ἄριστον ὁ ἔχεις ἀπένεγκε Δανιὴλ εἰς τὸν λάκκον τῶν λεόντων ἐν Βαβυλῶνι. §1.35καὶ εἶπεν Ἁμβακούμ Κύριε ὁ θεός, οὐχ ἑώρακα τὴν Βαβυλῶνα, καὶ τὸν λάκκον οὐ γινώσκω ποῦ ἐστι. §1.36καὶ ἐπιλαβόμενος αὐτοῦ ὁ ἄγγελος Κυρίου τοῦ Ἁμβακοὺμ τῆς κόμης αὐτοῦ τῆς κεφαλῆς ἔθηκεν αὐτὸν ἐπάνω τοῦ λάκκου τοῦ ἐν Βαβυλῶνι.
And an angel of the Lord spoke to Habakkuk, saying, "Thus says the Lord God to you: 'Carry the meal which you have to Daniel into the lions' pit in Babylon.'" And Habakkuk said, "Lord God, I have not seen Babylon, and I do not know where the pit is." And the angel of the Lord, taking Habakkuk by the hair of his head, placed him above the pit in Babylon.
§1.37καὶ εἶπεν Ἁμβακοὺμ πρὸς Δανιήλ Ἀναστὰς φάγε τὸ ἄριστον ὃ ἀπέστειλέ σοι Κύριος ὁ θεός. §1.38καὶ εἶπεν Δανιήλ Ἐμνήσθη γάρ μου Κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὁ μὴ ἐγκαταλείπων τοὺς ἀγαπῶντας αὐτόν. §1.39καὶ ἔφαγε Δανιήλ· ὁ δὲ ἄγγελος Κυρίου κατέστησε τὸν Ἁμβακοὺμ ὅθεν αὐτὸν ἔλαβε τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ.
And Habakkuk said to Daniel, "Arise and eat the meal which the Lord God has sent to you." And Daniel said, "For the Lord God, who does not forsake those who love him, has remembered me." And Daniel ate; and the angel of the Lord restored Habakkuk on the same day to the place where he had taken him.
ὁ δὲ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἐμνήσθη τοῦ Δανιὴλ.
And the Lord God remembered Daniel.
§1.40ἐξῆλθε δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς μετὰ ταῦτα πενθῶν τὸν Δανιὴλ, καὶ ἐγκύψας εἰς τὸν λάκκον ὁρᾷ αὐτὸν καθήμενον.
And after these things, the king went out mourning for Daniel; and bending down into the pit, he saw him sitting there.
§1.41καὶ ἀναβοήσας εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεύς Μέγας ἐστὶ Κύριος ὁ θεός, καὶ οὐκ ἔστι πλὴν αὐτοῦ ἄλλος. §1.42καὶ ἐξήγαγεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸν Δανιὴλ ἐκ τοῦ λάκκον. καὶ τοὺς αἰτίους τῆς ἀπωλείας αὐτοῦ ἐνέβαλεν εἰς τὸν λάκκον ἐνώπιον τοῦ Δανιήλ, καὶ κατεβρώθησαν.
And crying out, the king said, "Great is the Lord God, and there is no other besides him!" And the king brought Daniel out of the pit; and those who were the cause of his destruction he cast into the pit before Daniel, and they were devoured.
