The oracle of the word of the Lord to Israel by the hand of his messenger. Lay it indeed to your hearts.
"I have loved you," says the Lord.
Yet you say, "In what way have you loved us?" "Was not Esau Jacob's brother?" says the Lord.
"Yet I loved Jacob, but Esau I hated, and I laid waste his borders and made his heritage as gifts of the wilderness." Because Idumea will say, "We have been destroyed, but let us return and rebuild the desolate places." Thus says the Lord Almighty: "They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called the borders of lawlessness, and a people against whom the Lord has set himself in battle array forever." And your eyes shall see, and you shall say, "The Lord is magnified far beyond the borders of Israel." "A son honors his father, and a servant his master.
καὶ εἰ πατήρ εἰμι ἐγώ, ποῦ ἐστιν ἡ δόξα μου;
If then I am a father, where is my honor?
And if I am a master, where is my fear?" says the Lord Almighty.
"O you priests who despise my name! Yet you say, 'In what way have we despised your name?' By offering defiled bread upon my altar.
Yet you say, 'In what way have we defiled them?' In that you say, 'The table of the Lord is defiled,' and you despised the things set upon it.
§1.8διότι ἐὰν προσαγάγητε τυφλὸν εἰς θυσίαν, οὐ κακόν;
For if you offer a blind beast for sacrifice, is it not evil?
καὶ ἐὰν προσαγάγητε χωλὸν ἤ ἄρρωστον, οὐ κακόν;
And if you offer a lame or sick beast, is it not evil?
Present it now to your governor; will he accept you? Will he receive you with favor? says the Lord Almighty.
And now, entreat the favor of your God, and implore his mercy.
These things have been done by your hands; shall I receive your persons with favor from among you? says the Lord Almighty.
For even among you the doors shall be shut, and my altar shall not be kindled in vain.
My pleasure is not in you, says the Lord Almighty, and I will not accept a sacrifice from your hands.
For from the rising of the sun even to its setting, my name has been glorified among the nations, and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name is great among the nations, the Lord Almighty.
But you profane it in that you say, 'The table of the Lord is defiled,' and the things set upon it, even its food, have been despised.
And you said, 'These things are from hardship.' And I sniffed at them, says the Lord Almighty.
And you brought in things taken by violence, and the lame, and the sick.
If you bring such an offering, shall I accept it from your hands? says the Lord Almighty.
And cursed is the one who was able, having in his flock a male, and his vow is upon it, yet he sacrifices a blemished beast to the Lord.
For I am a great King, says the Lord Almighty, and my name is glorious among the nations."
