In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Addo, the prophet, saying: "The Lord was extremely angry with your fathers.
And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord Almighty: Return to me, says the Lord of hosts, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts.
And do not become like your fathers, whom the former prophets accused, saying: Thus says the Lord Almighty: Return from your evil ways and from your evil practices.
But they did not listen, and they paid no attention to listen to me, says the Lord.
§1.5οἱ πατέρες ὑμῶν, ποῦ εἰσιν;
Your fathers, where are they?
καὶ οἱ προφῆται, μὴ τὸν αἰῶνα ζήσονται;
And the prophets, will they live forever?
Yet receive my words and my statutes, which I command in my Spirit to my servants the prophets, which overtook your fathers.
And they answered and said: Just as the Lord Almighty purposed to do to us according to our ways and according to our practices, so he has done to us." On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Addo, the prophet, saying: "I saw in the night, and behold, a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood between the shaded mountains, and behind him were red, sorrel, dappled, and white horses.
§1.9καὶ εἶπα Τί οὗτοι, κύριε;
And I said: What are these, my lord?
And the angel who talked with me said to me: I will show you what these are.
And the man who stood between the mountains answered and said: These are those whom the Lord sent to patrol the earth.
And they answered the angel of the Lord who stood between the mountains and said: We have patrolled all the earth, and behold, all the earth is inhabited and is at rest.
§1.12καὶ ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ἅγγελος Κυρίου καὶ εἶπεν Κύριε Παντοκράτωρ, ἕως τίνος οὐ μὴ ἐλεήσῃς τὴν Ἰερουσαλὴμ καὶ τὰς πόλεις Ἰούδα, ἃς ὑπερεῖδες τοῦτο ἑβδομηκοστὸν ἔτος;
And the angel of the Lord answered and said: O Lord Almighty, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, which you have overlooked these seventy years?
And the Lord Almighty answered the angel who talked with me with good words and comforting speeches.
And the angel who talked with me said to me: Cry out, saying: Thus says the Lord Almighty: I have been jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy, and I am extremely angry with the nations that joined in the attack; for whereas I was angry but a little, they helped to forward the affliction.
Therefore, thus says the Lord: I will return to Jerusalem with compassion, and my house shall be rebuilt in it, says the Lord Almighty, and a measuring line shall yet be stretched out over Jerusalem.
And the angel who talked with me said to me: Cry out, saying: Thus says the Lord Almighty: My cities shall yet overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will yet comfort Zion and will choose Jerusalem." And I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, four horns.
And I said to the angel who talked with me: What are these, my lord? And he said to me: These are the horns that scattered Judah and Israel and Jerusalem.
And the Lord showed me four craftsmen.
§1.21καὶ εἶπα Τί οὗτοι ἔρχονται ποιῆσαι;
And I said: What are these coming to do?
And he said: These are the horns that scattered Judah and Israel, and broke them, and none of them lifted up his head; and these have come out to sharpen them in their hands—namely, the four horns, the nations that lifted up their horn against the land of the Lord to scatter it.
