§1.2Θεὸς ζηλωτὴς καὶ ἐκδικῶν Κύριος μετὰ θυμοῦ, ἐκδικῶν Κύριος τοὺς ὑπεναντίους αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐξαίρων αὐτὸς τοὺς ἐχθροὺς αὐτοῦ.
God is jealous, and the Lord avenges with wrath; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries, and he himself cuts off his enemies.
§1.3Κύριος μακρόθυμος. καὶ μεγάλη ἡ ἰσχὺς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀθῷον οὐκ ἀθῳώσει Κύριος·
The Lord is slow to anger, and great is his power, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
ἐν συντελείᾳ καὶ ἐν συνσεισμῷ ἡ ὁδὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ νεφέλαι κονιορτὸς ποδῶν αὐτοῦ·
His way is in destruction and whirlwind, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
§1.4ἀπειλῶν θαλάσσῃ καὶ ξηραίνων αὐτήν, καὶ πάντας τοὺς ποταμοὺς ἐξερημῶν.
He rebukes the sea and dries it up, and makes all the rivers desolate.
ὀλιγώθη ἡ Βασανῖτις καὶ ὁ Κάρμηλος, καὶ τὰ ἐξανθοῦντα τοῦ Λιβάνου ἐξέλιπεν·
Bashan and Carmel are diminished, and the flower of Lebanon has failed.
§1.5τὰ ὄρη ἐσείσθησαν ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ, καὶ οἱ βουνοὶ ἐσαλεύθησαν· καὶ ἀνεστάλη ἡ γῆ ἀπὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ ἡ σύμπασα, καὶ πάντες οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐν αὐτῇ.
The mountains shook because of him, and the hills were shaken; and the earth shrank back from his presence, the whole world and all who dwell in it.
§1.6ἀπὸ προσώπου ἀργῆς αὐτοῦ τίς ὑποστήσεται;
Who shall stand before his anger?
καὶ τίς ἀντιστήσεται ἐν ὀργῇ θυμοῦ αὐτοῦ;
And who shall withstand in the wrath of his anger?
ὁ θυμὸς αὐτοῦ τήκει ἀρχάς, καὶ αἱ πέτραι διεθρύβησαν ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ.
His wrath melts principalities, and the rocks were broken in pieces because of him.
§1.7χρηστὸς Κύριος τοῖς ὑπομένουσιν αὐτὸν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ θλίψεως, καὶ γινώσκων τοὺς εὐλαβουμένους αὐτόν.
The Lord is good to those who wait for him in the day of affliction, and he knows those who fear him.
§1.8καὶ ἐν κατακλυσμῷ πορείας συντέλειαν ποιήσεται, τοὺς ἐπεγειρομένους καὶ τοὺς ἐχθροὺς αὐτοῦ διώξεται σκότος.
But with an overflowing flood he will make a complete end of those who rise up, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
§1.9τί λογίζεσθε ἐπὶ τὸν κύριον;
What do you devise against the Lord?
συντέλειαν αὐτὸς ποιήσεται, οὐκ ἐκδικήσει δὶς ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ ἐν θλίψει·
He will make a complete end; affliction will not avenge twice in the same way.
§1.10ὅτι ἕως θεμελίου αὐτοῦ χερσωθήσεται, καὶ ὡς σμῖλαξ περιπλεκομένη βρωθήσεται, καὶ ὡς καλάμη ξηρασίας μεστή.
For even to its foundation it shall be laid waste, and shall be devoured like tangled brier, and like straw fully dry.
§1.11ἐκ σοῦ ἐξελεύσεται λογισμὸς κατὰ τοῦ κυρίου πονηρά, βουλευόμενος ἐναντία.
Out of you shall come forth a device against the Lord, planning evil things.
§1.12τάδε λέγει Κύριος κατάρχων ὑδάτων πολλῶν Καὶ οὕτως διασταλήσονται, καὶ ἡ ἀκοὴ σου οὐκ ἐνακουσθήσεται ἔτι. §1.13καὶ νῦν συντρίψω τὴν ῥάβδον αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ σοῦ, καὶ τοὺς δεσμοὺς διαρήξω·
Thus says the Lord who rules over many waters: "And thus they shall be cut off, and the report of you shall not be heard anymore." And now I will break his rod from off you, and burst your bonds.
§1.14καὶ ἐντελεῖται ὑπέρ σοῦ Κύριος, οὐ σπαρήσεται ἐκ τοῦ ὀνόματός σου ἔτι· ἐξ οἴκου θεοῦ σου ἐξολεθρεύσω τὰ γλυπτά, καὶ χωνευτὰ θήσομαι ταφὴν σου· ὅτι ταχεῖς. §1.15δοὺ ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη οἱ πόδες εὐαγγελιζομένου καὶ ἀπαγγέλλοντος εἰρήνην·
And the Lord will command concerning you, "No more of your name shall be sown; from the house of your god I will destroy the graven images and the molten images; I will make your grave, because they are swift." Behold upon the mountains the feet of him who brings good tidings and publishes peace!
ἑόρταζε, Ἰούδα, τὰς ἑορτάς σου, ἀπόδος τὰς εὐχάς σου, διότι οὐ μὴ προσθήσωσιν ἔτι τοῦ διελθεῖν διὰ σοῦ εἰς παλαίωσιν.
Keep your feasts, O Judah, perform your vows, for they shall no more pass through you to make you old.
