§1.1Τάδε λέγει Κύριος ὁ θεὸς τῇ Ἰδουμαίᾳ Ἀκοὴν ἤκουσα παρὰ Κυρίου, καὶ περιοχὴν εἰς τὰ ἔθνη ἐξαπέστειλεν Ἀνάστητε καὶ ἐξαναστῶμεν ἐπʼ αὐτὴν εἰς πόλεμον. §1.2ἰδοὺ ὀλιγοστὸν δέδωκά σε ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν, ἠτιμωμένος σὺ εἶ σφόδρα· §1.3ὑπερηφανία τῆς καρδίας σου ἐπῆρέν σε κατασκηνοῦντα ἐν ταῖς ὀπαῖς τῶν πετρῶν· ὑψῶν κατοικίαν αὐτοῦ, λέγων ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ Τίς με κατάξει ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν; §1.4ἐὰν μετεωρισθῇς ὡς ἀετός, καὶ ἐὰν ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν ἄστρων θῇς νοσσιάν σου, ἐκεῖθεν κατάξω σε, λέγει Κύριος.
Thus says the Lord God to Idumea: I have heard a report from the Lord, and He has sent a messenger among the nations, saying, “Arise, and let us rise up against her for war.” “Behold, I have made you small among the nations; you are greatly despised.” “The pride of your heart has puffed you up, you who dwell in the clefts of the rocks, who make his dwelling high, who says in his heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’” “Though you soar high like an eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” says the Lord.
§1.5εἰ κλέπται εἰσῆλθον πρὸς σὲ ἢ λῃσταὶ νυκτός, ποῦ ἂν ἀπερρίφης;
“If thieves came to you, or robbers by night, how you would have been cast down!
οὐκ ἂν ἔκλεψαν τὰ ἱκανὰ ἑαυτοῖς;
Would they not have stolen only enough for themselves?
καὶ εἰ τρυγηταὶ εἰσῆλθον πρὸς σέ, οὐκ ἂν ὑπελίποντο ἐπιφυλλίδας; §1.6πῶς ἐξηρευνήθη Ἠσοὺ καὶ κατελήμφθη αὐτοῦ τὰ κεκριυμμένα. §1.7ἕως τῶν ὁρίων ἐξαπέστειλάν σε· πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες τῆς διαθήκης σου ἀντέστησάν σοι, ἡδυνάσθησαν πρὸς σὲ ἄνδρες εἰρηνικοί σου, ἔθηκαν ἔνεδρα ὑποκάτω σου, οὐκ ἔστιν σύνεσις αὐτοῖς. §1.8ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ, λέγει Κύριος, ἀπολῶ σοφοὺς ἐκ τῆς Ἰδουμαίας καὶ σύνεσιν ἐξ ὄρους Ἠσού· §1.9καὶ πτοηθήσονται οἱ μαχηταί σου οἱ ἐκ Θαιμάν, ὅπαως ἐξαρθῇ ἄνθρωπος ἐξ ὄρους Ἠσαύ· §1.10διὰ τὴν σφαγὴν καὶ τὴν ἀσέβειαν ἀδελφοῦ σου Ἰακὼβ καλύψει σε αἰσχύνη, καὶ ἐξαρθήσῃ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα. §1.11Ἀφʼ ἧς ἡμέρας ἀντέστης ἐξ ἐναντίας ἐν ἡμέραις αἰχμαλωτευόντων ἀλλογενῶν δύναμιν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀλλότριοι εἰσῆλθον εἰς πύλας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ Ἰερουσαλὴμ ἔβαλον κλήρους, καὶ σὺ ἧς ὡς εἷς ἐξ αὐτῶν. §1.12καὶ μὴ ἐπίδῃς ἡμέραν ἀδελφοῦ σου ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ἀλλοτρίων, καὶ μὴ ἐπιχαρῆς ἐπὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἰούδα ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ἀπωλίας αὐτῶν, καὶ μὴ μεγαλορημονῆς ἐν ἡμέρᾳ θλίψεως· §1.13μηδὲ εἰσέλθῃς εἰς πύλας λαῶν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ πόνων αὐτῶν, μηδέ ἐπίδῃς καὶ σὺ τὴν συναγωγὴν αὐτάων ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ὀλέθρου αὐτῶν, μηδἐ συνεπιθῇ ἐπὶ τὴν δύναμιν αὐτῶν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ἀπωλίας αὐτῶν· §1.14μηδὲ ἐπιστῆς ἐπὶ τὰς διεκβολὰς αὐτοῦ ἐξολεθρεῦσαι τοὺς ἀνασωζομένους αὐτοῦ, μηδέ συγκλείσῃς τοὺς φεύγοντας αὐτοῦ ἐν ἡμέρᾳ θλίψεως. §1.15διότι ἐγγὺς ἡμέρα Κυρίου ἐπὶ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη· ὃν τρόπον ἐποίησας, οὕτως ἔσται σοι τὸ ἀνταπόδομά σου ἀνταποδοθήσεται εἰς κεφαλήν σου· §1.16διότι ὃν τρόπον ἔπιες ἐπὶ τὸ ὄρος τὸ ἅγιόν μου, πίονται καὶ καταβήσονται, καὶ ἔσονται καθὼς οὐχ ὑπάρχοντες. §1.17Ἐν δὲ τῷ ὄρει Σειὼν ἔσται σωτηρία, καὶ ἔσται ἅγιονʼ καὶ κατακληρονομήσουσιν ὁ οἵκος Ἰακὼβ τοὺς κατακληρονομήσαντας αὐτούς. §1.18καὶ ἔσται ὁ οἶκος Ἰακὼβ πῦρ, ὁ δὲ οἶκος Ἰωσὴφ φλόξ, ὁ δὲ οἶκος Ἠσαύ εἰς καλάμην, καὶ ἐκκαυθήσονται εἰς αὐτοὺς καὶ καταφάγονται αὐτούς, καὶ οὐκ ἔσται πυροφόρος τῷ οἴκῳ Ἠσαύ, διότι Κύριος ἐλάλησεν. §1.19καὶ κατακληρονομήσουσιν οἱ ἐν Νάγεβ τὸ ὄρος τὸ Ἠσαύ, καὶ οἱ ἐν τῇ Σεφηλὰ τοὺς ἀλλοφύλους· καὶ κατακληρονομήσουσιν τὸ ὄρος Ἐφράιμ καὶ τὸ πεδίον Σαμαρείας καὶ Βενιαμεὶν καὶ τὴν Γαλααδεῖτιν. §1.20καὶ τῆς μετοικεσίας ἡ ἀρχὴ αὕτη· τοῖς υἱοῖς Ἰσραήλ, γῆ τῶν Χαναναίων ἕως Σαρέπτων, καὶ ἡ μετοικεσία Ἰερουσαλὴμ ἕως Ἐφράθα· κληρονομήσουσιν τὰς πόλεις τοῦ Νάγεβ. §1.21καὶ ἀναβήσονται ἀνασωζόμενοι ἐξ ὄρους Σειὼν τοῦ ἐκδικῆσαι τὸ ὄρος Ἠσαύ, καὶ ἔσται τῷ κυρίῳ ἡ βασιλεία.
And if grape-gatherers came to you, would they not have left some gleanings?” “How Esau has been searched out, and his hidden treasures plundered!” “They have sent you away to your borders; all the men of your covenant have opposed you, the men who were at peace with you have prevailed against you, they have laid an ambush under you; there is no understanding in them.” “On that day,” says the Lord, “I will destroy the wise men out of Idumea, and understanding from the mountain of Esau.” “And your warriors from Teman shall be dismayed, so that every man may be cut off from the mountain of Esau.” “Because of the slaughter and the impiety against your brother Jacob, shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off forever.” “On the day when you stood aloof, on the days when strangers carried away his wealth, and foreigners entered into his gates and cast lots over Jerusalem, you also were like one of them.” “But do not look upon the day of your brother on the day of strangers, and do not rejoice over the sons of Judah on the day of their destruction, and do not boast on the day of distress.” “Neither enter into the gates of the peoples on the day of their troubles, nor look, even you, upon their gathering on the day of their ruin, nor attack their wealth on the day of their destruction.” “Neither stand at the crossroads to destroy those of his who escape, nor deliver up his fugitives on the day of distress.” “For the day of the Lord is near upon all the nations; as you have done, so it shall be done to you; your reward shall return upon your own head.” “For as you drank upon my holy mountain, so all the nations shall drink continually; they shall drink and swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.” “But on Mount Sion there shall be salvation, and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall inherit those who inherited them.” “And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau stubble; and they shall kindle among them and devour them, and there shall be no survivor for the house of Esau, for the Lord has spoken.” “And those in Negeb shall inherit the mountain of Esau, and those in the Shephelah the foreigners; and they shall inherit the mountain of Ephraim and the plain of Samaria, and Benjamin shall inherit Gilead.” “And this is the beginning of the captivity: for the children of Israel, the land of the Canaanites as far as Sarepta, and the captivity of Jerusalem as far as Ephrathah; they shall inherit the cities of Negeb.” “And those who are saved shall ascend from Mount Sion to judge the mountain of Esau, and the kingdom shall be the Lord’s.”
