§7.1Οἵμοι ὅτι ἐγενήθην ὡς συνάγων καλάμην ἐν ἀμήτῳ καὶ ὡς ἐπιφυλλίδα ἐν τρυγήτῳ, οὐχ ὑπάρχοντος βότρυος τοῦ φαγεῖν τὰ πρωτόγονα.
Woe is me! For I have become as one gathering stubble in harvest, and as gleanings in the vintage, when there is no cluster of first-ripe fruit to eat.
οἵμοι ψυχή,
Alas, my soul!
§7.2ὅτι ἀπόλωλεν εὐσεβὴς ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς. καὶ κατορθῶν ἐν ἀνθρώποις οὐχ ὑπάρχει· πάντες εἰς αἵματα δικάζονται, ἕκαστος τὸν πλησίον αὐτοῦ ἐκθλίβουσιν ἐκθλιβῇ,
For the godly man has perished from the earth, and there is none upright among men; all contend for blood, everyone oppresses his neighbor with oppression.
§7.3ἐπὶ τὸ κακὸν τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν ἑτοιμάζουσιν· ὁ ἄρχων αἰτεῖ, καὶ ὁ κριτῆς εἰρηνικοὺς λόγους ἐλάλησεν, καταθύμιον ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ ἐστιν.
They prepare their hands for evil; the prince asks, and the judge speaks peaceable words, it is the desire of his soul.
καὶ ἐξελοῦμαι τὰ ἀγαθὰ αὐτῶν §7.4ὁὡς σής ἐκτρώγων καὶ βαδίζων ἐπὶ κανόνος ἐν ἡμέρᾳ σκοπιᾶς.
And I will take away their goods like a devouring moth, and like one walking on a measuring line in the day of watchfulness.
οὐαὶ οὐαί, αἱ ἐκδικήσεις σου ἤκασιν, νῦν ἔσονται κλαυθμοὶ αὐτῶν.
Woe, woe, your punishments have come; now shall be their weeping.
§7.5μὴ καταπιστεύετε ἐν φίλοις, καὶ μή ἐλπίζετε ἐπὶ ἡγουμένοις, ἀπὸ τῆς συνκοίτου σου φύλαξαι τοῦ ἀναθέσθαι τι αὐτῇ·
Do not trust in friends, and do not hope in leaders; guard yourself from her who lies in your bosom, lest you commit anything to her.
§7.6διότι υἱὸς ἀτιμάζει πατέρα, θυγάτηρ ἐπαναστήσεται ἐπὶ τήν μητέρα αὐτῆς, νύμφη ἐπὶ τὴν πενθερὰν αὐτῆς, ἐχθροὶ πάντες ἀνδρὸς οἱ ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ.
For a son dishonors his father, a daughter will rise up against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; all a man's enemies are those of his own household.
§7.7Ἐγὼ δὲ ἐπὶ τὸν κύριον ἐπιβλέψομαι. ὑπομενῶ ἐπὶ τῷ θεῷ τῷ σωτῆρί μου, εἰσακούσεταί μου ὁ θεός μου.
But I will look to the Lord; I will wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.
§7.8μὴ ἐπίχαιρέ μοι ἡ ἐχθρά μου ὅτι πέπτωκα, καὶ ἀναστήσομαι· διότι ἐὰν καθίσω ἐν τῷ σκότει, Κύριος φωτιεῖ μοι.
Rejoice not over me, O my enemy, because I have fallen, for I shall arise; for though I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light to me.
§7.9ὀργὴν Κυρίου ὑποίσω ὅτι ἥμαρτον αὐτῷ, ἕως τοῦ δικαιῶσαι αὐτὸν τὴν δίκην μου· καὶ ποιήσει τὸ κρίμα μου καὶ ἐξάξεις με εἰς τὸ φῶς, ὄψομαι τὴν δικαιοσύνην αὐτοῦ·
I will bear the wrath of the Lord, because I have sinned against him, until he pleads my cause; and he will execute judgment for me, and bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.
§7.10καὶ ὄψεται ἡ ἐχθρά μου καὶ περιβαλεῖται αἰσχύνην, ἡ λέγουσα πρὸς μέ Ιοῦ Κύριος ὁ θεός σου; οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου ἐπόψονται αὐτήν, νῦν ἔσται εἰς καταπάτημα ὡς πηλὸς ἐν ταῖς ὁδοῖς.
And my enemy shall see it, and shall cover herself with shame, who says to me, "Where is the Lord your God?" My eyes shall look upon her; now shall she be trodden down as mire in the streets.
§7.11ἡμέρας ἀλοιφῆς πλίνθου, ἐξάλειψίς σου ἡ ἡμέρα ἐκείνη, καὶ ἀποτρίψεται νόμιμά σου ἡ ἡμέρα ἐκείνη·
The day of plastering the brick, that day is your blotting out, and that day shall wipe out your ordinances.
§7.12καὶ αἱ πόλεις σου είξουσιν εἰς ὁμαλισμὸν καὶ εἰς διαμερισμὸν Ἀσσυρίων, καὶ αἱ πόλεις σου αἱ ὀχυραὶ εἰς διαμερισμὸν ἀπὸ Τύρου ἕως τοῦ ποταμοῦ, καὶ ἀπὸ θαλάσσης ἕως θαλάσσης, καὶ ἀπὸ ὄρους ἕως τοῦ ὄρους·
And your cities shall yield to leveling and to division by the Assyrians; and your strong cities to division from Tyre to the river, and from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain.
§7.13καὶ ἔσται ἡ γἡ εἰς ἀφανισμὸν σὺν τοῖς κατοικοῦσιν αὐτήν, ἀπὸ καρπῶν ἐπιτηδευμάτων αὐτῶν.
And the land shall be for desolation with those who dwell in it, because of the fruit of their doings.
§7.14ΓΓΙοίμαινε λαόν σου ἐν ὸάβδῳ σου, πρόβατα κληρονομίας σου, κατασκηνοῦντας καθʼ θαυτοὺς δρυμὸν ἐν μέσῳ τοῦ Καρμήλου· νεμήσονται τὴν Bασανεῖτιν καὶ τὴν Γαλααδεῖτιν καθὼς αἱἡμέραι τοῦ αἰῶνος.
Shepherd your people with your rod, the sheep of your inheritance, who dwell by themselves in a forest in the midst of Carmel; let them feed in Basanitis and Galaaditis, as in the days of old.
§7.15καὶ κατὰ τὰς ἡμέρας ἐξοδίας σου ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ὄψεσθε θαυμαστά·
And according to the days of your departure out of Egypt, you shall see marvelous things.
§7.16ὄψονται ἔθνη καὶ καταισχυνθήσονται καὶ ἐκ πάσης τῆς ἰσχύος αὐτῶν, ἐπιθήσουσιν χεῖρας ἐπὶ τὸ στόμα αὐτῶν, τὰ ὦτα αὐτῶν ἀποκωφωθήσονται,
The nations shall see and be ashamed, and for all their power they shall lay their hands upon their mouth, their ears shall be deafened.
§7.17λίξουσιν χοῦν ὡς ὄφις σύροντες γῆν, συγχυθήσονται ἐν συνκλεισμῷ αὐτῶν· ἐπὶ τῷ κυρίῳ θεῷ ἡμῶν ἐκστήσονται, καὶ φοβηθήσονται ἀπὸ σοῦ.
They shall lick the dust like a serpent dragging the earth; they shall be confounded in their enclosures; they shall be amazed at the Lord our God, and shall fear because of you.
§7.18Τός θεὸς ὥσπερ σύ; ἐξαίρων ἀνομίας καὶ ὑπερβαίνων ἀσεβείας τοῖς καταλοίποις τῆς κληρονομίας αὐτοῦ· καὶ οὐ συνέσχεν εἰς μαρτύριον ὀργὴν αὐτοῦ, ὅτι θελητὴς ἐλέους ἐστίν.
What God is like you? taking away iniquity, and passing over impiety for the remnant of his inheritance; and he has not retained his anger for a testimony, because he is a lover of mercy.
§7.19ἐπιστρέψει καὶ οἰκτειρήσει ἡμᾶς, καταδύσει τὰς ἀδικίας ἡμῶν καὶ ἀποριφήσονται εἰς τὰ βάθη τῆς θαλάσσης, πάσας τὰς ἁμαρτίας ἡμῶν.
He will turn again and have mercy on us; he will sink our iniquities, and all our sins shall be cast into the depths of the sea.
§7.20δώσει εἰς ἀλήθειαν τῷ Ἰακώβ, ἔλεον τῷ Ἀβραάμ, καθότι ὥμοσας τοῖς πατράσιν ἡμῶν κατὰ τὰς ἡμέρας τὰς ἔμπροσθεν.
He will give truth to Jacob, mercy to Abraham, as you swore to our fathers from the days of old.
