§8.1τίς δῴη σε ἀδελφιδόν μου, θηλάζοντα μαστοὺς μητρός μους
εὑροῦσά σε ἔξω φιλήσω σε, καί γε οὐκ ἐξουδενώσουσίν μοι.
Oh that you were as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! If I should find you without, I would kiss you; yes, and they would not despise me.
§8.2παραλήμψομαί σε, εἰσάξω σε εἰς οἶκον μητρός μου
καὶ εἰς ταμεῖον τῆς συλλαβούσης με· ποτιῶ σε ἀπὸ οἴνου τοῦ μυρεψικοῦ,
I would lead you, and bring you into my mother's house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me; I would cause you to drink of spiced wine, of the juice of your pomegranates.
§8.3εὐώνυμος αὐτοῦ ὑπὸ τὴν κεφαλὴν μου. ἀπὸ νάματος ῥοῶν σου. καὶ ἡ δεξιὰ αὐτοῦ περιλήμψεταί με.
His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.
§8.4Ὥρκισα ὑμᾶς, θυγατέρες Ἰερουσαλήμ,
ἐν ταῖς δυνάμεσιν καὶ ἐν ταῖς ἰσχύσεσιν τοῦ ἀγροῦ,
ἐὰν ἐγείρητε καὶ ἐξεγείρητε τὴν ἀγάπην ἕως ἂυ θελήσῃ.
I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, by the powers and by the virtues of the field, that you stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please.
§8.5Tίς αὕτη ἡ ἀναβαίνουσα λελευκαθισμένη. ἐπιστηριζομένη ἐπὶ τὸν ἀδελφιδὸν αὐτῆς;
Who is this that comes up, all white, leaning upon her beloved?
Ὑπὸ μῆλον ἐξήγειρά σε· ἐκεῖ ὠδίνησέν σε ἡ μήτηρ σου,
ἐκεῖ ὠδίνησέν σε ἡ τεκοῦσά σου.
Under an apple tree I excited you: there your mother travailed with you; there she travailed that bore you.
§8.6θές με ὡς σφραγῖδα ἐπὶ τὴν καρδίαν σου,
ὡς σφραγῖδα ἐπὶ τὸν βραχίονά σου· ὅτι κραταιὰ ὡς θάνατος ἀγάπη,
σκληρὸς ὡς ᾂδης ζῆλος· περίπτερα αὐτῆς περίπτερα πυρός, φλόγες αὐτῆς·
Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: its wings are wings of fire, its flames.
§8.7ὕδωρ πολὺ οὐ δυνήσεται σβέσαι τὴυ ἀγάπην,
καὶ ποταμοὶ οὐ συνκλύσουσιν αὐτήν. ἐὰν δῷ ἀνὴρ τὸν πάντα βίον αὐτοῦ ἐν τῆ ἀγάπῃ,
ἐξουδενώσει ἐξουδενώσουσιν αὐτόν.
Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, they would utterly despise him.
§8.8Ἀδελφὴ ἡμῖν μικρὰ καὶ μαστοὺς οὐκ ἔχει. τί ποιήσωμεν τῇ ἀδελφῇ ἡμῶν
ἐν ἡμέρᾳ ᾗ ἐὰν λαληθῇ ἐν αὐτῇ;
We have a little sister, and she has no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?
§8.9εἰ τεῖχός ἐστιν, οἰκοδομήσωμεν ἐπʼ αὐτὴν ἐπάλξεις ἀργυρᾶς· καὶ εἰ θύρα ἐστίν, διαγράψωμεν ἐπʼ αὐτὴν σανίδα κεδρίνην.
If she be a wall, we will build upon her silver battlements: and if she be a door, we will enclose her with boards of cedar.
§8.10Ἐγὼ τεῖχος, καὶ μαστοί μου πύργοι· ἐγὼ ἤμην ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτῶν ὡς εὑρίσκουσα εἰρήνην.
I am a wall, and my breasts like towers: then was I in their eyes as one that found peace.
§8.11ἀμπελὼν ἐγενήθη τῷ Σαλωμὼν ἐν Βεεθλαμών· ἔδωκεν τὸν ἀμπελῶνα αὐτοῦ τοῖς τηροῦσιν,
ἀνὴρ οἴσει ἐν καρπῷ αὐτοῦ χιλίους ἀργυρίου.
Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon; he let out the vineyard to keepers; everyone for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand pieces of silver.
§8.12ἀμπελών μου ἐμὸς ἐνώπιόν μου· οἱ χίλιοι Σαλωμών, καὶ οἱ διακόσιοι
τοῖς τηροῦσι τὸν καρπὸν αὐτοῦ.
My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: you, O Solomon, must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.
§8.13Ὁ καθήμενος ἐν κήποις,
ἑταῖροι προσέχοντες τῇ φωνῇ σου· ἀκούτισόν με.
You that dwell in the gardens, the companions hearken to your voice: cause me to hear it.
§8.14Φύγε, ἀδελφιδέ μου, καὶ ὁμοιώθητι τῇ δορκάδι
ἡ τῷ νεβρῷ τῶν ἐλάφων ἐπὶ ὄρη ἀρωμάτων.
Make haste, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young hart upon the mountains of spices.
