The other part of the racecourse is not a mound of earth, but a hill of no great height.
At the end of the hill a temple has been built to Demeter with the surname Chamyne.
Some consider the name to be ancient, because here the earth opened for the chariot of Hades and closed again; but others say that Chamynus, a man of Pisa who opposed Pantaleon the son of Omphalion when he was tyrant in Pisa and planning a revolt from the Eleans, was killed by Pantaleon, and from the property of Chamynus the temple was built to Demeter.
In place of the ancient images, Herodes the Athenian dedicated Core and Demeter of Pentelic stone.
In the gymnasium at Olympia, the practices are established in it for pentathletes and runners, and a stone basement has been made in the open air; and originally a trophy against the Arcadians also stood upon this basement.
There is also another smaller enclosure on the left of the entrance to the gymnasium, and the palaestras for the athletes are there; and adjacent to the wall of the eastern portico of the gymnasium are the lodgings of the athletes, facing the south-west wind and the setting of the sun.
After crossing the Cladeus, there is the tomb of Oenomaus, a mound of earth surrounded by stones, and above the monument are the ruins of buildings where they say the horses of Oenomaus were stabled.
The boundaries of the country facing the Arcadians, which are now for the Eleans and originally were the same for the Pisatans, are established extending as follows.
Having crossed the river Erymanthus at the ridge called the ridge of Saurus, there is the monument of Saurus and a temple of Heracles, which is in ruins in our time; and they say that Saurus used to harass travelers and those living near, until he received his punishment from Heracles.
At this ridge named after the robber, a river coming down from the south into the Alpheus, almost opposite the Erymanthus, is the one that divides the territory of Pisa from the Arcadians, and its name is Diagon.
Proceeding forty stades from the ridge of Saurus, there is a temple of Asclepius with the surname Demanetus from the founder, which is also in ruins; it was built on the high ground by the Alpheus.
Not far from this a temple of Dionysus Leucyanites has been built, and a river Leucyanias flows past this place; this one also empties into the Alpheus, and it comes down from the mountain Pholoe.
Having crossed the Alpheus from this point, you will be within the land of Pisa.
