ὁ δὲ τρίτος τῶν θησαυρῶν καὶ ὁ τέταρτος ἀνάθημά ἐστιν Ἐπιδαμνίων The third of the treasuries and the fourth are the dedication of the Epidamnians; it contains a sphere supported by Atlas, and contains Heracles, and the tree by the Hesperides, the apple-tree, and the dragon coiled around the apple-tree. These too are of cedar wood, and are the works of Theocles, the son of Hegylus; the letters upon the sphere say that he made it together with his son.
As for the Hesperides—for they were moved by the Eleans—these indeed were still in my time in the Heraeum; but the treasury was built for the Epidamnians by Pyrrhus and his sons Lacrates and Hermon.
ᾠκοδόμησαν δὲ καὶ Συβαρῖται θησαυρὸν ἐχόμενον τοῦ Βυζαντίων· The Sybarites also built a treasury adjoining that of the Byzantines.
Those who have been inquisitive about Italy and the cities in it say that Lupiae, situated between Brentesium and Hydrus, has changed its name, having been Sybaris in ancient times; and its harbor for ships is artificial and is the work of the Emperor Hadrian.
ππρὸς δὲ τῷ Συβαριτῶν Λιβύων ἐστὶ τῶν ἐν Κυρήνῃ θησαυρός· Next to that of the Sybarites is the treasury of the Libyans in Cyrene; and in it are placed statues of Roman emperors.
As for the Selinuntians in Sicily, the Carthaginians removed them by war; but before the disaster befell them, they built a treasury for Zeus in Olympia.
There is there a Dionysus with its face, feet, and hands fashioned of ivory.
ἐν δὲ τῷ Μεταποντίνων θησαυρῷ— And in the treasury of the Metapontines—for this is adjacent to that of the Selinuntians—in this is fashioned an Endymion; except for the drapery, the rest of the Endymion is also of ivory.
What cause overtook the Metapontines to destroy them, I do not know; but in my time nothing else of Metapontum was left except the theater and the circuit of the wall.
Μεγαρεῖς δὲ οἱ πρὸς τῇ Ἀττικῇ The Megarians who border on Attica built a treasury and dedicated in the treasury cedar figures adorned with gold, representing the battle of Heracles against Achelous; here are Zeus, Deianeira, Achelous, and Heracles, and Ares helping Achelous.
There also stood a statue of Athena, since she was an ally to Heracles; this now stands dedicated near the Hesperides in the Heraeum.
τοῦ θησαυροῦ δὲ ἐπείργασται τῷ ἀετῷ ὁ γιγάντων καὶ θεῶν πόλεμος· On the pediment of the treasury is carved the war of the giants and the gods; and a shield is also dedicated above the pediment, stating that the Megarians dedicated the treasury from the spoils of the Corinthians.
I believe this victory for the Megarians occurred when Phorbas was archon at Athens, and archon through his entire life; for the offices were not yet annual for the Athenians then, nor indeed were the Olympiads yet recorded by the Eleans at that time.
λέγονται δὲ καὶ Ἀργεῖοι The Argives also are said to have shared with the Megarians in this action against the Corinthians.
The Megarians built the treasury at Olympia some years after the battle; but it is likely they had the offerings from of old, since they were made by the Lacedaemonian Dontas, the pupil of Dipoenus and Scyllis.
τελευταῖος δὲ τῶν θησαυρῶν The last of the treasuries is already close to the stadium itself, and the inscription says that both the treasury and the statues in it are a dedication of the Geloans; however, there are no longer any statues remaining dedicated there.
