For they are narrow and fibrous; for they end in fine, hollow, and fibrous small vessels.
And no vein extends from the aorta to the liver or the spleen.
And the branches of each of the two vessels extend to each hip, and both attach to the bone.
And veins also lead to the kidneys from both the great vein and the aorta; except that they are expended not into the cavity but into the body of the kidneys.
From the aorta, then, two other passages lead to the bladder, strong and continuous, and others from the cavity of the kidneys, having no connection with the great vein.
And from the middle of each of the kidneys, a hollow and sinewy vessel is suspended, extending along the spine itself through the veins; then each first disappears into each hip, and afterwards they become visible again, extending towards the hip.
And their ends attach to the bladder and the penis in males, and in females to the uterus.
And no vein extends from the great vein to the uterus, but from the aorta many and closely packed ones do.
And other veins also extend from the branches of both the aorta and the great vein, some big and hollow going first to the groin, and then through the legs they end in the feet and the toes; and again others lead through the groin and the thighs in an alternate manner, one from the left to the right, and the other to the left from the right; and they join with the other veins around the ham.
In what manner, then, the veins are situated, and from where they have suspended their origins, is clear from these accounts.
And it is so in all red-blooded animals regarding the origins and the greatest veins (for the rest of the multitude of the veins is not in the same condition in all; for neither do their parts have the same manner, nor do they all have these parts), yet it is certainly not equally clear in all, but most of all in those that are most abundant in blood and the largest.
For in small and not blood-rich animals, either because of their nature or because of the fatness of their body, it is not equally possible to observe; for in some of them, the passages are confused like certain channels under much mud, while others have few and these merely fibres instead of veins.
But the great vein is most of all conspicuous in all, even in the small ones.
