§13.5.1μετʼ οὐ πολὺ δὲ οἱ δήμαρχοι Καμίλλῳ φθονήσαντες ἐκκλησίαν κατʼ αὐτοῦ συνήγαγον καὶ ἐζημίωσαν αὐτὸν δέκα μυριάσιν ἀσσαρίων, οὐκ ἀγνοοῦντες, ὅτι πολλοστόν τι μέρος ὁ βίος ἦν αὐτῷ τοῦ κατακρίματος, ἀλλʼ ἵνʼ ἀπαχθεὶς εἰς τὸ δεσμωτήριον ὑπὸ τῶν δημάρχων ἀσχημονήσῃ ὁ τοὺς ἐπιφανεστάτους κατορθώσας πολέμους.
And not long after, the tribunes, envying Camillus, called an assembly against him and fined him ten myriads of assaria, not being ignorant that his estate was but a small fraction of the fine, but doing so in order that he, who had successfully conducted the most glorious wars, might be disgraced by being led away to prison by the tribunes.

§13.5.2γενόμενος δὲ πλησίον τῶν πυλῶν καὶ τοὺς παρόντας ἀσπασάμενος ὀλοφυρομένους καὶ δακρύοντας, οἵου στέρεσθαι μέλλοιεν ἀνδρός, πολλὰ κατὰ τῶν παρειῶν ἀφεὶς δάκρυα καὶ τὴν κατασχοῦσαν αὐτὸν ἀσχημοσύνην ἀνακλαυσάμενος, εἶπεν· ὦ θεοὶ καὶ δαίμονες, ἔφοροι τῶν ἀνθρωπίνων ἔργων, ὑμᾶς ἀξιῶ δικαστὰς γενέσθαι μοι τῶν τε πρὸς τὴν πατρίδα πολιτευμάτων καὶ παντὸς τοῦ παρεληλυθότος βίου·

§13.5.3ἔπειτʼ, ἐὰν μὲν ἔνοχον εὕρητέ με ταῖς αἰτίαις, ἐφʼ αἷς ὁ δῆμος κατεψηφίσατό μου, πονηρὰν καὶ ἀσχήμονα τελευτὴν δοῦναι τοῦ βίου, ἐὰν δʼ ἐν ἅπασιν, οἷς ἐπιστεύθην ὑπὸ τῆς πατρίδος ἐν εἰρήνῃ τε καὶ κατὰ πολέμους, εὐσεβῆ καὶ δίκαιον καὶ πάσης ἀσχήμονος ὑποψίας καθαρόν, τιμωροὺς γενέσθαι μοι, τοιούτους ἐπιστήσαντας τοῖς ἠδικηκόσι κινδύνους καὶ φόβους, διʼ οὓς ἀναγκασθήσονται μηδεμίαν ἄλλην ἐλπίδα σωτηρίας ὁρῶντες ἐπʼ ἐμὲ καταφυγεῖν. ταῦτʼ εἰπὼν εἰς πόλιν Ἀρδέαν ᾤχετο.
Then, if you find me guilty of the charges on which the people condemned me, grant me a wretched and shameful end of life; but if, in all things with which I was entrusted by my country, both in peace and in war, you find me pious, just, and clear of any shameful suspicion, become my avengers by bringing upon those who wronged me such dangers and fears through which they will be forced, seeing no other hope of safety, to flee to me." Having said this, he departed for the city of Ardea.
