§13.1ΕΝΙΠΕΥΣ
Οὐ καλὰ ταῦτα, ὦ Πόσειδον· εἰρήσεται γὰρ τἀληθές·
ENIPEUS This is not honorable, O Poseidon; for the truth shall be told.
ὑπελθών μου τὴν ἐρωμένην εἰκασθεὶς ἐμοὶ διεκόρησας τὴν παῖδα· ἡ δὲ ᾤετο ὑπ' ἐμοῦ αὐτὸ πεπονθέναι καὶ διὰ τοῦτο παρεῖχεν ἑαυτήν.
Having slipped under my beloved, being made like me, you deflowered the maiden; and she thought she had suffered this by me, and for this reason she yielded herself.
ΠΟΣΕΙΔΩΝ
Σὺ γάρ, ὦ Ἐνιπεῦ, ὑπεροπτικὸς ἦσθα καὶ βραδύς, ὃς κόρης οὕτω καλῆς φοιτώσης ὁσημέραι παρὰ σέ, ἀπολλυμένης ὑπὸ τοῦ ἔρωτος, ὑπερεώρας καὶ ἔχαιρες λυπῶν αὐτήν, ἡ δὲ περὶ τὰς ὄχθας ἁλύουσα καὶ ἐπεμβαίνουσα καὶ λουομένη ἐνίοτε ηὔχετό σοι ἐντυχεῖν, σὺ δὲ ἐθρύπτου πρὸς αὐτήν.
POSEIDON For you, O Enipeus, were haughty and slow, who, when a girl so beautiful came to you day after day, perishing with love, looked down on her and took pleasure in grieving her, while she, wandering about the banks and stepping into them and bathing, sometimes prayed to meet with you, but you were affectedly cold toward her.
§13.2ΕΝΙΠΕΥΣ
Τί οὖν;
ENIPEUS What of it?
διὰ τοῦτο ἐχρῆν σε προαρπάσαι τὸν ἔρωτα καὶ καθυποκρίνασθαι Ἐνιπέα ἀντὶ Ποσειδῶνος εἶναι καὶ κατασοφίσασθαι τὴν Τυρὼ ἀφελῆ κόρην οὖσαν;
For this reason did you have to snatch away my love beforehand, and pretend to be Enipeus instead of Poseidon, and trick Tyro, who was an innocent maiden?
ΠΟΣΕΙΔΩΝ
Ὀψὲ ζηλοτυπεῖς, ὦ Ἐνιπεῦ, ὑπερόπτης πρότερον ὤν· ἡ Τυρὼ δὲ οὐδὲν δεινὸν πέπονθεν οἰομένη ὑπὸ σοῦ διακεκορῆσθαι.
POSEIDON You are jealous too late, O Enipeus, having been haughty before; and Tyro has suffered nothing terrible, since she thinks she was deflowered by you.
ΕΝΙΠΕΥΣ
Οὐ μὲν οὖν· ἔφησθα γὰρ ἀπιὼν ὅτι Ποσειδῶν ἦσθα.
ENIPEUS Not so, indeed; for as you were departing you said that you were Poseidon.
ὃ καὶ μάλιστα ἐλύπησεν αὐτήν· καὶ ἐγὼ τοῦτο ἠδίκημαι, ὅτι τὰ ἐμὰ σὺ ηὐφραίνου τότε καὶ περιστήσας πορφύρεόν τι κῦμα, ὅπερ ὑμᾶς συνέκρυπτεν ἅμα, συνῆσθα τῇ παιδὶ ἀντ' ἐμοῦ.
And this is what grieved her most of all; and I have been wronged in this, that you then enjoyed what was mine, and having raised up a certain purple wave, which hid you both at the same time, you lay with the girl instead of me.
ΠΟΣΕΙΔΩΝ
Ναί· σὺ γὰρ οὐκ ἤθελες, ὦ Ἐνιπεῦ.
POSEIDON Yes; for you did not wish it, O Enipeus.
