In Macedonia, Cassander, having aided Audoleon, the king of the Paeonians, who was waging war against the Autariatae, rescued him from his dangers, and settled the Autariatae, who with the children and women accompanying them numbered about twenty thousand, near the mountain called Orbelus.
While he was occupied with these matters, in the Peloponnese, the general Ptolemy, who had been entrusted with forces by Antigonus, having clashed with the ruler because he felt he was not being honored according to his worth, revolted from Antigonus and made an alliance with Cassander.
Having left Phoenix, one of his most faithful friends, as administrator of the satrapy on the Hellespont, he sent soldiers to him, requesting him to guard the garrisons and the cities and not to pay attention to Antigonus.
Since the common treaty among the leaders stipulated that the Greek cities were to be left free, those around Ptolemy, the ruler of Egypt, having accused Antigonus because he had occupied some of the cities with garrisons, prepared to wage war.
And Ptolemy, having sent out the force and the general Leonidas, subdued the cities in rugged Cilicia that were under Antigonus, and also sent messengers to the cities under Cassander and Lysimachus, requesting them to be of the same mind as himself and to prevent Antigonus from becoming strong.
But Antigonus sent Philip, the younger of his sons, to the Hellespont to wage war against Phoenix and the revolters, and Demetrius to Cilicia, who, having made his campaign active, defeated Ptolemy's generals and recovered the cities.
