§4.67.1οἱ δʼ ἐπίγονοι τὴν στρατείαν ἐπιφανῆ πεποιημένοι μετὰ πολλῶν λαφύρων ἀνέκαμψαν εἰς τὰς πατρίδας.
And the Epigoni, having made their campaign glorious, returned to their respective homelands with many spoils.
τῶν δὲ Καδμείων τῶν συμφυγόντων εἰς τὸ Τιλφωσσαῖον Τειρεσίας μὲν ἐτελεύτησεν, ὃν θάψαντες λαμπρῶς οἱ Καδμεῖοι τιμαῖς ἰσοθέοις ἐτίμησαν·
Of the Cadmeans who had fled together to Tilphossaeum, Tiresias died; and the Cadmeans, having buried him splendidly, honored him with godlike honors.
αὐτοὶ δὲ μεταναστάντες ἐκ τῆς πόλεως ἐπὶ Δωριεῖς ἐστράτευσαν, καὶ μάχῃ νικήσαντες τοὺς ἐγχωρίους ἐκείνους μὲν ἐξέβαλον ἐκ τῶν πατρίδων, αὐτοὶ δʼ ἐπί τινας χρόνους κατοικήσαντες, οἱ μὲν ἐν αὐτῇ κατέμειναν, οἱ δʼ ἐπανῆλθον εἰς τὰς Θήβας, Κρέοντος τοῦ Μενοικέως βασιλεύοντος.
They themselves, migrating from that city, marched against the Dorians, and having defeated the inhabitants in battle, they expelled them from their homelands, while they themselves settled there for a time; some of them remained there, while others returned to Thebes, Creon the son of Menoeceus being king.
οἱ δʼ ἐκ τῶν πατρίδων ἐξελαθέντες ὕστερόν τισι χρόνοις κατῆλθον εἰς τὴν Δωρίδα καὶ κατῴκησαν ἐν Ἐρινεῷ καὶ Κυτινίῳ καὶ Βοιῷ.
Those who had been expelled from their homelands returned some time later to Doris and settled in Erineus, Cytinium, and Boeum.
§4.67.2πρὸ δὲ τούτων τῶν χρόνων Βοιωτὸς ὁ Ἄρνης καὶ Ποσειδῶνος καταντήσας εἰς τὴν τότε μὲν Αἰολίδα, νῦν δὲ Θετταλίαν καλουμένην, τοὺς μεθʼ ἑαυτοῦ Βοιωτοὺς ὠνόμασε.
Before these times, Boeotus, the son of Arne and Poseidon, having arrived in the region which was then called Aeolis but is now called Thessaly, named those with him Boeotians.
περὶ δὲ τῶν Αἰολέων τούτων ἀναγκαῖον προσαναδραμόντας τοῖς χρόνοις τὰ κατὰ μέρος ἐκθέσθαι.

§4.67.3ἐν τοῖς ἔμπροσθεν χρόνοις τῶν Αἰόλου τοῦ Ἕλληνος τοῦ Δευκαλίωνος υἱῶν οἱ μὲν ἄλλοι κατῴκησαν ἐν τοῖς προειρημένοις τόποις, Μίμας δὲ μείνας ἐβασίλευσε τῆς Αἰολίδος.
In former times, of the sons of Aeolus, the son of Hellen, the son of Deucalion, the others settled in the aforementioned places, but Mimas remained and ruled over Aeolis.
Μίμαντος δὲ Ἱππότης γενόμενος ἐκ Μελανίππης ἐτέκνωσεν Αἴολον· τούτου δʼ Ἄρνη γενομένη θυγάτηρ Βοιωτὸν ἐκ Ποσειδῶνος ἐγέννησεν.
From Mimas was born Hippotes by Melanippe, and he begot Aeolus; and from him was born a daughter Arne, who bore Boeotus to Poseidon.
§4.67.4αἰόλος δʼ ἀπιστῶν εἰ Ποσειδῶνι ἐμίγη καὶ τῇ φθορᾷ μεμφόμενος, παρέδωκε τὴν Ἄρνην Μεταποντίῳ ξένῳ κατὰ τύχην παρεπιδημοῦντι, προστάξας ἀπάγειν εἰς Μεταπόντιον.
Aeolus, disbelieving that she had slept with Poseidon and blaming her for her ruin, delivered Arne to a stranger from Metapontium who happened to be visiting, ordering him to take her away to Metapontium.
τούτου δὲ πράξαντος τὸ προσταχθέν, ἡ Ἄρνη τρεφομένη ἐν Μεταποντίῳ ἐγέννησεν Αἴολον καὶ Βοιωτόν, οὓς ὁ Μεταπόντιος, ἄπαις ὤν, κατά τινα χρησμὸν υἱοποιήσατο.
When he had done what was ordered, Arne, being cared for in Metapontium, gave birth to Aeolus and Boeotus, whom the Metapontian, being childless, adopted in accordance with a certain oracle.
§4.67.5οὗτοι δʼ ἀνδρωθέντες, στάσεως γενομένης ἐν τῷ Μεταποντίῳ, βίᾳ κατέσχον τὴν βασιλείαν.
When these had grown to manhood, a sedition having arisen in Metapontium, they seized the kingship by force.
ὕστερον δὲ τῆς Ἄρνης διενεχθείσης πρὸς Αὐτολύτην τὴν γυναῖκα τοῦ Μεταποντίου, βοηθοῦντες τῇ μητρὶ τὴν Αὐτολύτην ἀνεῖλον.
Later, when Arne fell into a dispute with Autolyte, the wife of the Metapontian, they came to the aid of their mother and killed Autolyte.
δεινῶς δὲ φέροντος τοῦ Μεταποντίου τὸ συμβεβηκός, πλοῖα παρασκευασάμενοι καὶ τὴν Ἄρνην ἀναλαβόντες ἐξέπλευσαν μετὰ πολλῶν φίλων.
Since the Metapontian took what had happened very hard, they prepared ships and, taking Arne with them, sailed away with many friends.
§4.67.6αἰόλος μὲν οὖν τὰς ἐν τῷ Τυρρηνικῷ πελάγει καλουμένας ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ νήσους Αἰολίδας κατέσχε, καὶ πόλιν ἔκτισε τὴν ὀνομαζομένην Λιπάραν· Βοιωτὸς δὲ πλεύσας πρὸς Αἰόλον τὸν τῆς Ἄρνης πατέρα, καὶ τεκνωθεὶς ὑπʼ αὐτοῦ, παρέλαβε τῆς Αἰολίδος τὴν βασιλείαν· καὶ τὴν μὲν χώραν ἀπὸ τῆς μητρὸς Ἄρνην, τοὺς δὲ λαοὺς ἀφʼ ἑαυτοῦ Βοιωτοὺς ὠνόμασε.
Aeolus, then, took possession of the islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea called Aeolian after him, and founded the city named Lipara; but Boeotus sailed to Aeolus, the father of Arne, and being adopted by him, succeeded to the kingship of Aeolis; and he named the country Arne after his mother, and the people Boeotians after himself.
§4.67.7Βοιωτοῦ δὲ Ἴτωνος γενόμενος ἐτέκνωσεν υἱοὺς τέτταρας, Ἱππάλκιμον καὶ Ἠλεκτρύωνα, ἔτι δʼ Ἀρχίλυκον καὶ Ἀλεγήνορα.
And from Boeotus was born Itonus, who begot four sons, Hippalcimus and Electryon, and besides Archilycus and Alegenor.
τούτων δʼ Ἱππάλκιμος μὲν ἐγέννησε Πηνέλεων, Ἠλεκτρύων δὲ Λήιτον, Ἀλεγήνωρ δὲ Κλονίον, Ἀρχίλυκος δὲ Προθοήνορα καὶ Ἀρκεσίλαον τοὺς ἐπὶ Τροίαν στρατευσαμένους ἡγεμόνας τῶν ἁπάντων Βοιωτῶν.
Of these, Hippalcimus begot Peneleos, Electryon begot Leitus, Alegenor begot Clonius, and Archilycus begot Prothoenor and Arcesilaus, who were the leaders of all the Boeotians in the campaign against Troy.
