§14.99.2οὗτος μὲν οὖν ὀκτακισχιλίους ἔχων στρατιώτας σὺν τοῖς κατὰ τὴν Ἀσίαν ἀθροισθεῖσιν ἐπῄει τὴν τοῦ βασιλέως χώραν φθείρων, Στρούθας δὲ σὺν ἵππῳ τε βαρβαρικῇ πολλῇ καὶ στρατιώταις ὁπλίταις μὲν πεντακισχιλίοις, ψιλοῖς δὲ πλείοσι δισμυρίων, οὐ μακρὰν τῶν Λακεδαιμονίων κατεστρατοπέδευσεν.
Now he, having eight thousand soldiers including those gathered in Asia, advanced, ravaging the territory of the King. Struthas, however, with a large force of barbarian cavalry, five thousand hoplites, and more than twenty thousand light-armed troops, encamped not far from the Lacedaemonians.
§14.99.3τέλος δὲ τοῦ Θίβρωνος μετὰ μέρους τῆς δυνάμεως ἐξελθόντος καὶ πολλὴν περιβαλομένου λείαν, ἐπελθὼν ὁ Στρούθας τόν τε Θίβρωνα μαχόμενον ἀνεῖλε, καὶ τῶν στρατιωτῶν τοὺς μὲν πλείστους ἀπέκτεινε, τοὺς δʼ ἐζώγρησεν, ὀλίγοι δʼ εἰς τὸ Κνιδίνιον φρούριον διεσώθησαν.
At last, when Thibron had gone out with a part of his force and gathered a great deal of booty, Struthas came upon him, slew Thibron as he was fighting, and killed most of his soldiers, taking others alive; only a few escaped in safety to the fortress of Cnidinium.
§14.99.4Θρασύβουλος δʼ ὁ τῶν Ἀθηναίων στρατηγὸς ἐκ τῆς Λέσβου κομιζόμενος μετὰ τοῦ στόλου πρὸς Ἄσπενδον, ὥρμισε τὰς τριήρεις εἰς τὸν Εὐρυμέδοντα ποταμόν.
Meanwhile, Thrasybulus, the Athenian general, sailing with his fleet from Lesbos toward Aspendus, anchored his triremes in the Eurymedon River.
χρήματα δʼ εἰληφότος αὐτοῦ παρὰ τῶν Ἀσπενδίων, ὅμως τινὲς τῶν στρατιωτῶν ἐδῄωσαν τὴν χώραν.
Although he had received money from the Aspendians, some of his soldiers nevertheless plundered their territory.
γενομένης δὲ νυκτὸς οἱ μὲν Ἀσπένδιοι χαλεπῶς ἐνεγκόντες ἐπὶ τοῖς ἀδικήμασιν ἐπέθεντο τοῖς Ἀθηναίοις καὶ τόν τε Θρασύβουλον καί τινας τῶν ἄλλων ἀνεῖλαν·
When night came, the Aspendians, being angry at these misdeeds, attacked the Athenians and killed Thrasybulus and some of the others.
οἱ δὲ τῶν Ἀθηναίων τριήραρχοι περιδεεῖς γενόμενοι καὶ ταχὺ πληρώσαντες τὰς ναῦς, εἰς Ῥόδον ἐξέπλευσαν.
The Athenian trierarchs, becoming terrified, quickly manned the ships and sailed out to Rhodes.
§14.99.5ἀφεστηκυίας δὲ τῆς πόλεως, καὶ τῶν φυγάδων φρούριόν τι κατειληφότων, μετὰ τούτων διεπολέμουν πρὸς τοὺς κατὰ τὴν πόλιν.
Since the city was in revolt and the exiles had seized a certain fortress, they carried on war with the latter against those in the city.
οἱ δʼ Ἀθηναῖοι πυθόμενοι τὴν Θρασυβούλου τοῦ στρατηγοῦ τελευτήν, Ἀγύριον στρατηγὸν ἐξέπεμψαν.
The Athenians, learning of the death of Thrasybulus the general, sent out Agyrius as general.
τὰ μὲν οὖν κατὰ τὴν Ἀσίαν ἐν τούτοις ἦν.
Such, then, was the state of affairs in Asia.
