When Euphemus was archon in Athens, in Rome, in place of the consuls, three military tribunes were established: Lucius Furius, Lucius Quinctius, and Aulus Sempronius.
Under their administration, the Lacedaemonians, having marched with their allies into the Argive territory, captured the stronghold of Hysiae, and having put the inhabitants to death, they razed the fortress; and when they learned that the Argives had built the long walls down to the sea, they advanced and razed the newly constructed walls, and made their return to their own country.
The Athenians, having chosen Alcibiades as general and having given him twenty ships, ordered him to assist the Argives in establishing their government; for they were still in turmoil because many of those who favored the oligarchy remained.
Alcibiades, then, having arrived at the city of the Argives and having held a council with those who preferred the democracy, selected those of the Argives who seemed most to favor the cause of the Lacedaemonians; and having removed these men from the city and having securely established the democracy, he sailed back to Athens.
At the close of this year, the Lacedaemonians, having invaded the Argive territory with a large force, and having ravaged much of the countryside, settled the Argive xiles in Orneae; and having fortified this place as a stronghold against the Argive territory and left a sufficient garrison, they ordered them to harass the Argives.
When the Lacedaemonians had departed from the Argive territory, the Athenians dispatched an allied force to the Argives consisting of forty triremes and twelve hundred hoplites; and the Argives, having marched with the Athenians against Orneae, captured the city by storm, and of the garrison and exiles, some they put to death, and others they expelled from Orneae.
These, then, were the events that took place in the fifteenth year of the Peloponnesian War.
