§11.66.1ἐπʼ ἄρχοντος δʼ Ἀθήνησι Λυσιστράτου Ῥωμαῖοι κατέστησαν ὑπάτους Λεύκιον Πινάριον Μαμερτῖνον καὶ Πούπλιον Φούριον Φίφρωνα.
When Lysistratus was archon in Athens, the Romans established Lucius Pinarius Mamertinus and Publius Furius Fiphron as consuls.
ἐπὶ δὲ τούτων Ἱέρων ὁ τῶν Συρακοσίων βασιλεὺς τοὺς Ἀναξίλα παῖδας τοῦ γενομένου τυράννου Ζάγκλης εἰς Συρακούσας μεταπεμψάμενος μεγάλαις δωρεαῖς ἀνεμίμνησκε τῆς Γέλωνος γενομένης πρὸς τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν εὐεργεσίας, καὶ συνεβούλευεν αὐτοῖς ἤδη τὴν ἡλικίαν ἠνδρωμένοις ἀπαιτῆσαι λόγον παρὰ Μικύθου τοῦ ἐπιτροπεύοντος, καὶ τὴν δυναστείαν αὐτοὺς παραλαβεῖν.
During their term of office, Hieron, the king of the Syracusans, having sent for the sons of Anaxilas, the former tyrant of Zancle, to Syracuse, reminded them by great gifts of the benefaction Gelon had rendered to their father, and advised them, since they were now grown to manhood, to demand an accounting from Micythus, who was acting as their guardian, and to take over the government themselves.
§11.66.2τούτων δʼ ἐπανελθόντων εἰς τὸ Ῥήγιον, καὶ τὸν ἐπίτροπον λόγον ἀπαιτούντων τῶν διῳκημένων, ὁ Μίκυθος, ἀνὴρ ὢν ἀγαθός, συνήγαγε τοὺς πατρικοὺς φίλους τῶν παίδων καὶ τὸν λόγον οὕτω καθαρῶς ἀπέδωκεν, ὥστε ἅπαντας τοὺς παρόντας θαυμάζειν τήν τε δικαιοσύνην καὶ τὴν πίστιν, τοὺς δὲ παῖδας μεταμεληθέντας ἐπὶ τοῖς πραχθεῖσιν ἀξιοῦν τὸν Μίκυθον πάλιν τὴν ἀρχὴν παραλαβεῖν, καὶ πατρὸς ἐξουσίαν ἔχοντα καὶ τάξιν διοικεῖν τὰ κατὰ τὴν δυναστείαν.
When these had returned to Rhegium and demanded of their guardian an accounting of his administration, Micythus, who was an honorable man, gathered the father's friends of the children and rendered his account so clearly that all who were present marveled at both his justice and his fidelity, and the children, repenting of what they had done, entreated Micythus to take over the government again and to administer the affairs of the state with the authority and rank of a father.
§11.66.3οὐ μὴν ὁ Μίκυθός γε συνεχώρησεν, ἀλλὰ πάντα παραδοὺς ἀκριβῶς καὶ τὴν ἰδίαν οὐσίαν ἐνθέμενος εἰς πλοῖον ἐξέπλευσεν ἐκ τοῦ Ῥηγίου, προπεμπόμενος ὑπὸ τῆς τῶν ὄχλων εὐνοίας.
Micythus, however, by no means consented, but having delivered everything precisely and placed his own property in a boat, he sailed away from Rhegium, escorted by the goodwill of the crowds.
οὗτος μὲν οὖν εἰς τὴν Ἑλλάδα κατάρας ἐν Τεγέαις τῆς Ἀρκαδίας κατεβίωσεν ἐπαινούμενος.
Having landed in Greece, he lived out his life in Tegea of Arcadia, held in high esteem.
§11.66.4Ἱέρων δʼ ὁ τῶν Συρακοσίων βασιλεὺς ἐτελεύτησεν ἐν τῇ Κατάνῃ, καὶ τιμῶν ἡρωικῶν ἔτυχεν, ὡς ἂν κτίστης γεγονὼς τῆς πόλεως.
And Hieron, the king of the Syracusans, died in Catana, and received heroic honors, since he had been the founder of the city.
οὗτος μὲν οὖν ἄρξας ἔτη ἕνδεκα κατέλιπε τὴν βασιλείαν Θρασυβούλῳ τῷ ἀδελφῷ, ὃς ἦρξε Συρακοσίων ἐνιαυτὸν ἕνα.
Thus, having ruled for eleven years, he left his kingdom to his brother Thrasybulus, who ruled the Syracusans for one year.
