§7.16C.1εἰ δὲ ἄρα μή ἐστι τοῦτο τοιοῦτο οἷον ἐγὼ διαιρέω, ἀλλά τι τοῦ θείου μετέχον, σὺ πᾶν αὐτὸ συλλαβὼν εἴρηκας· φανήτω γὰρ δὴ καὶ ἐμοὶ ὡς καὶ σοὶ διακελευόμενον.
But if indeed this is not such as I distinguish, but partakes of something divine, you have comprehended the whole matter in what you said; for let it indeed appear to me too, just as to you, giving its command.
φανῆναι δὲ οὐδὲν μᾶλλόν μοι ὀφείλει ἔχοντι τὴν ἐσθῆτα ἢ οὐ καὶ τὴν ἐμήν, οὐδέ τι μᾶλλον ἐν κοίτῃ τῇ σῇ ἀναπαυομένῳ ἢ οὐ καὶ ἐν τῇ ἐμῇ, εἴ πέρ γε καὶ ἄλλως ἐθέλει φανῆναι.
But it ought to appear to me no more when I have your clothing than when I have my own, nor any more when I am resting in your bed than when in my own, if indeed it wishes to appear at all.
§7.16C.2οὐ γὰρ δὴ ἐς τοσοῦτό γε εὐηθείης ἀνήκει τοῦτο, ὅ τι δή κοτε ἐστί, τὸ ἐπιφαινόμενόν τοι ἐν τῷ ὕπνῳ, ὥστε δόξει ἐμὲ ὁρῶν σὲ εἶναι, τῇ σῇ ἐσθῆτι τεκμαιρόμενον.
For this thing, whatever indeed it is, which appears to you in your sleep, surely does not reach such a degree of foolishness as to think, when seeing me, that I am you, judging by your clothing.
εἰ δὲ ἐμὲ μὲν ἐν οὐδενὶ λόγῳ ποιήσεται οὐδὲ ἀξιώσει ἐπιφανῆναι, οὔτε ἢν τὴν ἐμὴν ἐσθῆτα ἔχω οὔτε ἢν τὴν σήν, οὐδὲ ἐπιφοιτήσει, τοῦτο ἤδη μαθητέον ἔσται.
But if it makes no account of me and does not deign to appear to me, whether I have my own clothing or yours, and does not visit me, this indeed will have to be learned.
εἰ γὰρ δὴ ἐπιφοιτήσει γε συνεχέως, φαίην ἂν καὶ αὐτὸς θεῖον εἶναι.
For if indeed it visits repeatedly, I myself would also say that it is divine.
§7.16C.3εἰ δέ τοι οὕτω δεδόκηται γίνεσθαι καὶ οὐκ οἷά τε αὐτὸ παρατρέψαι, ἀλλʼ ἤδη δεῖ ἐμὲ ἐν κοίτῃ σῇ κατυπνῶσαι, φέρε, τούτων ἐξ ἐμεῦ ἐπιτελευμένων φανήτω καὶ ἐμοί.
But if you have so decided that this must be, and it is not possible to avert it, but it is now necessary for me to fall asleep in your bed, come, when these things are performed by me, let it appear to me too.
μέχρι δὲ τούτου τῇ παρεούσῃ γνώμῃ χρήσομαι.
But until then, I will hold to my present opinion.
