§6.7.1καὶ οἱ μὲν πρέσβεις τῶν Ἀθηναίων ἀπεστάλησαν ἐς τὴν Σικελίαν·
And the Athenian envoys were dispatched to Sicily.
Λακεδαιμόνιοι δὲ τοῦ αὐτοῦ χειμῶνος καὶ οἱ ξύμμαχοι πλὴν Κορινθίων στρατεύσαντες ἐς τὴν Ἀργείαν τῆς τε γῆς ἔτεμον οὐ πολλὴν καὶ σῖτον ἀνεκομίσαντό τινα ζεύγη κομίσαντες, καὶ ἐς Ὀρνεὰς κατοικίσαντες τοὺς Ἀργείων φυγάδας καὶ τῆς ἄλλης στρατιᾶς παρακαταλιπόντες αὐτοῖς ὀλίγους, καὶ σπεισάμενοί τινα χρόνον ὥστε μὴ ἀδικεῖν Ὀρνεάτας καὶ Ἀργείους τὴν ἀλλήλων, ἀπεχώρησαν τῷ στρατῷ ἐπ’ οἴκου.
Meanwhile, in the same winter, the Lacedaemonians and their allies, except the Corinthians, campaigned against the Argive territory; they ravaged a small part of the land, and carried off some corn, having brought wagons with them; and having settled the Argive exiles in Orneae, leaving behind for them a small part of the rest of the army, and having made a truce for a certain time so that the Orneates and the Argives should not injure one another's land, they withdrew with their army to home.
§6.7.2ἐλθόντων δὲ Ἀθηναίων οὐ πολλῷ ὕστερον ναυσὶ τριάκοντα καὶ ἑξακοσίοις ὁπλίταις, οἱ Ἀργεῖοι μετὰ τῶν Ἀθηναίων πανστρατιᾷ ἐξελθόντες τοὺς μὲν ἐν Ὀρνεαῖς μίαν ἡμέραν ἐπολιόρκουν·
And not long afterwards, when the Athenians arrived with thirty ships and six hundred hoplites, the Argives, having marched out in full force with the Athenians, besieged those in Orneae for one day.
ὑπὸ δὲ νύκτα αὐλισαμένου τοῦ στρατεύματος ἄπωθεν ἐκδιδράσκουσιν οἱ ἐκ τῶν Ὀρνεῶν.
But under cover of night, when the army had bivouacked at a distance, those from Orneae escaped.
καὶ τῇ ὑστεραίᾳ οἱ Ἀργεῖοι ὡς ᾔσθοντο, κατασκάψαντες τὰς Ὀρνεὰς ἀνεχώρησαν καὶ οἱ Ἀθηναῖοι ὕστερον ταῖς ναυσὶν ἐπ’ οἴκου.
And on the following day, when the Argives perceived this, they razed Orneae to the ground and withdrew, and the Athenians later returned home with their ships.
§6.7.3καὶ ἐς Μεθώνην τὴν ὅμορον Μακεδονίᾳ ἱππέας κατὰ θάλασσαν κομίσαντες Ἀθηναῖοι σφῶν τε αὐτῶν καὶ Μακεδόνων τοὺς παρὰ σφίσι φυγάδας ἐκακούργουν τὴν Περδίκκου.
The Athenians also, having transported by sea to Methone, which borders Macedonia, cavalry consisting of their own men and those Macedonian exiles who were with them, ravaged the territory of Perdiccas.
§6.7.4Λακεδαιμόνιοι δὲ πέμψαντες παρὰ Χαλκιδέας τοὺς ἐπὶ Θρᾴκης, ἄγοντας πρὸς Ἀθηναίους δεχημέρους σπονδάς, ξυμπολεμεῖν ἐκέλευον Περδίκκᾳ· οἱ δ’ οὐκ ἤθελον.
Meanwhile, the Lacedaemonians sent to the Chalcidians of Thrace, who had a ten-day truce with the Athenians, and urged them to join Perdiccas in the war; but they refused.
καὶ ὁ χειμὼν ἐτελεύτα, καὶ ἕκτον καὶ δέκατον ἔτος ἐτελεύτα τῷ πολέμῳ τῷδε ὃν Θουκυδίδης ξυνέγραψεν.
And the winter ended, and with it the sixteenth year of this war of which Thucydides wrote the history.
