§4.77.1ἡ μὲν οὖν ἐπιβουλὴ τοιαύτη παρεσκευάζετο, ὁ δὲ Ἱπποκράτης αὐτὸς μὲν ἐκ τῆς πόλεως δύναμιν ἔχων, ὁπότε καιρὸς εἴη, ἔμελλε στρατεύειν ἐς τοὺς Βοιωτούς, τὸν δὲ Δημοσθένη προαπέστειλε ταῖς τεσσαράκοντα ναυσὶν ἐς τὴν Ναύπακτον, ὅπως ἐξ ἐκείνων τῶν χωρίων στρατὸν ξυλλέξας Ἀκαρνάνων τε καὶ τῶν ἄλλων ξυμμάχων πλέοι ἐπὶ τὰς Σίφας ὡς προδοθησομένας· ἡμέρα δ’ αὐτοῖς εἴρητο ᾗ ἔδει ἅμα ταῦτα πράσσειν.
Thus the plot was being prepared in this manner, and Hippocrates himself, having a force from the city, was to march against the Boeotians when the opportunity should arise, while he sent Demosthenes ahead to Naupactus with the forty ships, in order that, having gathered an army of Acarnanians and the other allies from those regions, he might sail against Siphae, which was to be betrayed; and a day had been appointed for them on which they had to execute these things simultaneously.
§4.77.2καὶ ὁ μὲν Δημοσθένης ἀφικόμενος, Οἰνιάδας δὲ ὑπό τε Ἀκαρνάνων πάντων κατηναγκασμένους καταλαβὼν ἐς τὴν Ἀθηναίων ξυμμαχίαν καὶ αὐτὸς ἀναστήσας τὸ ξυμμαχικὸν τὸ ἐκείνῃ πᾶν, ἐπὶ Σαλύνθιον καὶ Ἀγραίους στρατεύσας πρῶτον καὶ προσποιησάμενος τἆλλα ἡτοιμάζετο ὡς ἐπὶ τὰς Σίφας, ὅταν δέῃ, ἀπαντησόμενος.
And Demosthenes, having arrived and finding the Oeniadae forced by all the Acarnanians into the Athenian alliance, and having himself mobilized all the allied forces in that quarter, marched first against Salynthius and the Agraeans and won them over, and was preparing the other matters so as to meet them at Siphae whenever it should be necessary.
