§33.
3.
I say that the seed is separated from the whole body, from both the hard parts and the soft parts, and from all the fluid present in the body.
There are four forms of fluid: blood, bile, water, and phlegm.
For man has in himself as many of these forms as are innate to him, and from these, diseases arise; and this has been demonstrated by me concerning these, and why it is from these that diseases or the separations from diseases arise.
And these things indeed have been said by me concerning the seed, whence it arises, how, and why, and in whom the seed does not arise and why it does not, and concerning the menses of virgins.
§44.
4.
In women, I say that in intercourse, as the genital organ is rubbed and the womb is moved, a kind of itching falls upon them, and provides pleasure and heat to the rest of the body.
The woman also releases from her body, sometimes into the womb, and the womb becomes moist, and sometimes also outside, if the womb gapes more than is proper.
And she feels pleasure from the time she begins to have intercourse, throughout the whole time, until the man releases her; and if the woman is eager to have intercourse, she ejaculates before the man, and for the rest of the time the woman no longer feels pleasure in the same way; but if she is not eager, she completes it with the man, feeling pleasure.
And it is just as if someone pours other cold water on boiling water, and the boiling water thus ceases, so the seed of the man falling into the womb quenches the heat and pleasure of the woman.
The pleasure and the heat flare up as the seed falls into the womb, and then cease; just as if someone pours wine on a flame, it happens first that the flame flares up and increases for a short time at the pouring of the wine, and then ceases, so in the same way the heat of the woman flares up at the seed of the man, and then ceases.
The woman feels pleasure much less than the man in intercourse, but for a longer time than the man; and the reason why the man feels more pleasure is that for him the seed is separated suddenly from the fluid from a stronger disturbance than for the woman.
It is also thus for women: if they have intercourse with men, they are healthier; but if not, less so; for on the one hand, the womb becomes moist in intercourse and not dry, but when it is drier than proper, it contracts violently, and contracting violently it provides pain to the body; and on the other hand, intercourse, by warming and moistening the blood, makes an easier passage for the menses; and when the menses do not flow, the bodies of the women become diseased; and why they become diseased will be said by me in "On Women's Diseases." And these things indeed have been said by me up to this point.
§55.
5.
When the woman has had intercourse, if she is not going to conceive, the seed from both flows outside as usual, whenever the woman wishes; but if she is going to conceive, the seed does not flow outside, but remains in the womb.
For the womb, having received and closed, keeps it in itself, inasmuch as the orifice is contracted by the moisture, and that which came from the man and that from the woman are mixed together; and if the woman is experienced in childbirth and notices when the seed does not go out but remains, she will know on which day she conceived.
