§31.6.1ὅτι Γάιος ὁ Γάλλος, χωρὶς τῶν ἄρτι ῥηθέντων ἀλογημάτων, παραγενόμενος εἰς τὴν Ἀσίαν ἐκθέματα κατὰ τὰς πόλεις ἐξέθηκε τὰς ἐπιφανεστάτας, §31.6.2κελεύων, εἴ τις βούλεται κατηγορεῖν Εὐμένους τοῦ βασιλέως, ἀπαντᾶν εἰς Σάρδεις ἐπίτινα χρόνον ὡρισμένον.
That Gaius Gallus, apart from the irrational actions just mentioned, on arriving in Asia issued proclamations throughout the most illustrious cities, ordering that, if anyone wished to accuse King Eumenes, they should assemble at Sardis within a certain specified time.
§31.6.3μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα παραγενηθεὶς αὐτὸς εἰς τὰς Σάρδεις, ἀποκαθίσας ἐν τῷ γυμνασίῳ περὶ δέχʼ ἡμέρας διήκουε τῶν κατηγορούντων, §31.6.4πᾶσαν ἐπιδεχόμενος αἰσχρολογίαν καὶ λοιδορίαν κατὰ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ καθόλου πᾶν ἕλκων πρᾶγμα καὶ κατηγορίαν, §31.6.5ἅτε παρεστηκὼς ἄνθρωπος τῇ διανοίᾳ καὶ φιλοδοξῶν ἐν τῇ πρὸς Εὐμένην διαφορᾷ. — §31.6.6ὅτι καθʼ ὅσον ἐδόκουν οἱ Ῥωμαῖοι βαρύτερον τῷ Εὐμένει προσφέρεσθαι, κατὰ τοσοῦτο συνέβαινε τοὺς Ἕλληνας προσοικειοῦσθαι, φύσει τῶν ἀνθρώπων ἀεὶ τῷ θλιβομένῳ τὴν εὔνοιαν προσνεμόντων. —
After this, having arrived in Sardis himself, he took his seat in the gymnasium and for about ten days listened to the accusers, receiving every kind of abuse and slander against the king, and in general dragging up every matter and accusation, since he was a man out of his mind and eager for glory in his dispute with Eumenes. — That the more severely the Romans seemed to behave towards Eumenes, the more the Greeks came to side with him, as it is natural for men always to bestow their goodwill upon the oppressed. —
