Blow the trumpet in Zion, and proclaim in my holy mountain, and let all the inhabitants of the land be troubled, because the day of the Lord is present, because it is near; a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of cloud and mist.
Like the morning, a numerous and strong people shall be spread upon the mountains; there has not been the like of it from ancient times, and after it there shall not be any more, even to the years of generations of generations.
Before them is a consuming fire, and behind them a flame is kindled; before them the land is like a garden of pleasure, and behind them a plain of desolation, and there shall be none that escapes them.
Their appearance is like the appearance of horses, and like horsemen, so shall they pursue; like the sound of chariots on the tops of the mountains shall they leap, and like the sound of a flame of fire consuming stubble, and like a numerous and strong people set in battle array.
Before them the peoples shall be crushed; every face shall be like the blackness of a pot.
They shall run like warriors, and shall climb upon the walls like men of war; and each shall march in his own way, and they shall not turn aside from their paths, and no one shall stand aloof from his brother; they shall march laden with their weapons, and they shall fall upon their darts, yet they shall not be destroyed.
They shall seize the city, and run upon the walls, and climb up into the houses, and enter in through the windows like thieves.
Before them the earth shall be troubled, and the heaven shall be shaken; the sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.
§2.11καὶ Κύριος δώσει φωνὴν αὐτοῦ πρὸ προσώπου δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ, ὅτι πολλή ἐστιν σφόδρα ἡ παρεμβολὴ αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἰσχυρὰ ἔργα λόγων αὐτοῦ· διότι μεγάλη ἡμέρα τοῦ κυρίου, μεγάλη καὶ ἐπιφανὴς σφόδρα, καὶ τίς ἔσται ἱκανὸς αὐτῇ;
And the Lord shall utter his voice before his army, for his camp is very great, because the works of his words are strong; for the day of the Lord is great, very great and glorious, and who shall be able to withstand it?
§2.12καὶ νῦν λέγει Κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν Ἐπιστράφητε πρὸς μέ ἐξ ὅλης τῆς καρδίας ὑμῶν καὶ ἐν νηστείᾳ καὶ ἐν κλαυθμῷ καὶ ἐν κοπετῷ, §2.13καὶ διαρήξατε τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν καὶ μὴ τὰ ἱμάτια ὑμῶν, καὶ ἐπιστράφητε πρὸς Κύριον τὸν θεὸν ὑμῶν, ὅτι ἐλεήμαων καὶ οἰκτίρμων ἐστίν, μακρόθυμος καὶ πολυέλεος καὶ μετανοῶν ἐπὶ ταῖς κακίαις. §2.14τίς οἶδεν εἰ ἐπιστρέψει καὶ μετανοήσει, καὶ ὑπολείψεται ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ εὐλογίαν, θυσίαν καὶ σπονδὴν Κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ ἡμῶν;
"And now," says the Lord your God, "turn to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts, and not your garments, and turn to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, long-suffering, and plenteous in mercy, and repents of evils." Who knows if he will turn and repent, and leave a blessing behind him, even a sacrifice and a drink offering to the Lord our God?
Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly, gather the people, sanctify the congregation, choose the elders, assemble the infants sucking the breasts; let the bridegroom go forth from his chamber, and the bride from her bridal closet.
§2.17ἀνὰ μέσον τῆς κρηπῖδος τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου κλαύσονται οἱ ἱερεῖς οἱ λειτουργοῦντες Κυρίῳ καὶ ἐροῦσιν Φεῖσαι, Κύριε, τοῦ λαοῦ σου, καὶ μὴ δῷς τὴν κληρονομίαν σου εἰς ὄνειδος τοῦ κατάρξαι αὐτῶν ἔθνη, ὅπως μὴ εἵπαωσιν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν Ιοῦ ἐστιν ὁ θεὸς αὐτῶν;
Between the steps of the altar the priests who minister to the Lord shall weep, and they shall say, "Spare, O Lord, your people, and do not give your inheritance to reproach, that nations should rule over them, lest they should say among the nations, 'Where is their God?'"
